Heh... it's a bit more than rain and wind....

While it is certainly not as bad as the news is 'hyping' this one to be, no hurricane should be shrugged off. (I'm a ground-zero Hugo survivor) Wishing, all in its path, a safe outcome.

For me, so far, so good. It was forcast to hit us as a Cat III or a Cat II. It came in as a Cat I. A LOT of rain and flooding in the area. Winds are much worse over in Virginia Beach then they are here in my area of Chesapeake. The eye is supposed to pass over Virginia Beach between 7:30-9:30 this evening.

Here in Lancaster PA it`s just raining with a little wind. But it`s on it`s way up & at least it is down to a catagory 1.

2 dead so far (both from being outside)

I found a use for my used tire pile. I spread the tires out on top of other things that might otherwise blow away. ;)

Steady rain here, but nothing else yet.

For you folks still in its path, do not discount the rain factor. Even though the storm is apparently weaker than predicted wind-wise, there is a LOT of water being carried through the air in that thing, and it has to fall when the storm comes apart. Street drainage, creeks, rivers, etc. cannot keep up with how much water this thing will bring.

Put another way, this is a 700-mile-wide bucket 3 miles deep, full of water. Put that on your door frame and trip it on somebody's head!

Severe rain ban hitting us right now, keep losing the weather channel. Hope my brother- his wife & kids + my mom are safe on L.i., as there just east of the city line & suposed to get hit somewhat hard.

I am actually giving that some thought and doing a ride report. When I lived in NH I was out on Salsbury beach during the blizard of 78 metal detecting with a friend. I took my jeep right out on the beach at the time. Yeah, Ive done some crazy ***** in my life. The wife wasn't to happy when I got home. :fool:

All in all, not too bad in eastern Massachusetts. Some power lines down, minor flooding. Wind and rain was less than predicted. I know it was worse west of here and futher south in NYC area.

Hope everyone else is making out OK with their visit from Irene.

Lots of downed trees and flooded roads, but overall we were very lucky that the storm weakened before it got here. By the way, do I increase or decrease the air pressure in my tires when riding in a huricane?

PS, the rain stopped, but we still have some pretty strong winds.

Rhode Island here. 50 % of the household are without power (including mine) but we were missed by most of the storm, which went west of us.

... By the way, do I increase or decrease the air pressure in my tires when riding in a hurricane?...
Doesn't really matter when they're not on the ground.

(80+ mph winds west coast of the Isle of Skye, written up here.)

Hope everyone's ok. We'll probably get the tail end in a few days, but nothing like you did.

I'm located in Rocky Mount, NC and we took a huge shot from the rain/wind shield of Irene...surprising amounts of damage. My block lost power on Saturday morning as things were building up and it's still out as of this morning (Monday) when I headed for the office down here in Wilson. I brought my rechargeable stuff to charge up here in the office today, lol. A huge number of trees and power lines were knocked down in Rocky Mount; they estimate a few days for power recovery in most areas and say that they are having to completely rebuild the grid due to the extensive damage. That said, there are parts of town that have their power back and some who never lost it. Down here at the office in Wilson, it's hard to notice that a storm wen through although I know sections of Wilson got slammed too. Just hoping the house gets power back today...

No internet, cable, phone or power at home since about 10 PM Saturday night. Latest word is the outage could last in to the weekend or longer. No major damage. Just a lot of limbs down. We took a limb into the pool early in the storm Saturday that put about a 4" hole in the bottom. Pool completely drained and washed out a good bit of the sand undermeath the liner. Called the insurance company this morning. Waiting for an adjuster to contact me. All in all not as bad as I had expected. No one got hurt and the pool can be fixed. Ironically, yesterday was a gorgeous day. Would have been a great pool day!
