I still consider the XXs too contemporary to have fit the question. I had two: a carbed '97 and a FI '03. Smooooooooothest inline 4 engine ever, nearly bulletproof, amazing fit and finish, and not exactly bashful with the horseponies. Before Honda lost its way.I liked that '97 Honda XX real well, too. In fact, I owned it twice.
I remember getting a stiffie over that bike, Howie. But sometime after that, a neighbor bought a V-4 Honda 1000 Interceptor that he let me ride after he took delivery. With that, my Zook GS1000EC suddenly seemed impotent and the Kwak erection went flaccid.Hmmmm...on the subject of revisiting past ownerships.....
I "think" I'd like another shot at a 1984 GPZ900R -- The Original Ninja.

I bought serial # 000003 in March of '84. Memory probably sucks, but I "think" I'd still love it.
Who knows. I miss it.
Well, Rich, ...at least you still remember.I remember getting a stiffie ...
It's hell getting old. I only take the viagra so I don't piss in my slippers.Well, Rich, ...at least you still remember.I remember getting a stiffie ...

I tweaked Uncle Dutch's carbs yesterday and took her down the dirt road. I haven't smiled that hard when riding for a looooong time. 12 second shift cycles, grab a handful of throttle and the bike rocks to the right (no counterbalancer), and acceleration even a snail would bet could win.I think it mostly depends on what you expect out of the old bike. If you want it to do everything that your FJR does for you now, then there is no way. But if you just want to go out on an occasional day ride and stir up some nostalgic feelings, then yeah it will probably be fun.
I get it. My ATK, with CR500 rear disc grafted on, doesn't compare to the z426. And Uncle Dutch, well, the rear shoes are oiled down due main seal leak... woohoo, Mr. Toad's wild ride.I rode Carvers KZ1300 the other day and It was really strange how dated it felt. It kinda ran like **** but I still have some carb issues to sort out. The brakes felt like brakes but didn't stop like the brakes we have become used to. Once I get the fueling issue sorted then I can do a better test run.
