I was reading one of the cycle mags and came across a write up about a redesigned sportbike. The article praised the manufacturer for dropping 4 pounds off of the bike by redesigning some part or another. They claimed the weight reduction made for better top end and cornering and fuel economy, etc. I put the mag down and realized that by my recent weight loss of 20 pounds that I have improved the performance of my FJR by quite a bit and the next 20 I'm trying to dump would really put me over the top. I wonder if I can estimate how much farther I can ride on a tank of fuel with 40 plus pounds of lard ass missing from the bike???

I have hated every minute of this weight loss process but it's working. A few months ago the cholesterol, trigleceride and blood pressure numbers were in the stratosphere. They are all now below normal and I feel great. I want more years to ride so I guess I will be taking better care of myself.

Contrary to popular belief BadCats only have one life!

That's great news Badcat. Any secrets to share? I'm sure I'm not the only one here who wants to drop 20+lbs. Well done on getting the numbers into the desirable range.

Jill

assuming a linear change in mass to fuel economy (as F= M x A):

New weight + FJR Weight (est. 650#)

---------------------------------------------------- = % mass reduction

Original Weight + FJR Weight (650#)

take original fuel economy / % mass reduction = new fuel economy

( you could use miles per tank or miles per gallon for 'fuel economy')

Congratulations Badcat. It ain't easy, but the reward (living) sure makes it worthwhile.

All the best.

Math ain't my strong suit, but by your formula I would be gaining approx 3 mpg!

Now, lets see how good you are.....how much longer will my tires last????

Good on ya - I mean off you ! I had similar problems a few years ago & became diabetic. Since then I've managed to keep 50 pounds off & stay below 200. All my other problems (healthwise) faded away too. :specool:

Tire wear is more of a coeffecient of friction issue -- more on the Acceleration part of the formula.

So this would be more affected by acceleration, braking, and the 'roughness' or surface texture of the road.

Most of the formula's for determining this are based on empiracle data.

Wasn't that the CBRXX Forum that did the group weight loss support thing a few years ago? They said 7 lbs = 1 hp IIRC.

Great idea, but not the way you did it.

Good for you.

As someone has experience in the CABAG patch, I can say its much better to be preventative.

Kudos to you, Badcat!

I did the same thing. Lost 37 lbs 2 yrs ago and now all the #'s are well under normal. And I have lots more energy to boot!

Just smart and balanced eating, reasonable portion control and don't drink any calories.

AFTER I lost 25 lbs, I then started excercising to use up the new-found energy. And for excercise I thought I would do something fun. So this old wall-flower learned to dance!

And now the FJR is faster too!

I'm right there with you Badcat! A group of us at work started a "Biggest Looser" competition here at work on January 18th. So far I've lost 14lbs and I'm over half way to my goal.

Maybe we should have a contest to see who loses the most by NAFO.

I intend to put a couple pounds back on at the banquets!!!
