After my get off I sent my bike in for repair, Must have chosen the wrong shop (I'm starting to think).

It was a Progressive authorized repair center.

Remember I sent it back because no VIN on the new frame.

When I got it back today...

My new Delrin frame slider was cracked from the ENGINE mount side. No tip-over marks. I guess over torqued??

I look right at the neck and notice a screw is missing from the wiring harness holder

My "NEW" bar end weight is generic and does not look right (too much gap IMO) and its put on with a screw one side and the original allen head on the other.

Scratches that weren't there before (But the shop didn't do it <_< ) Musta been that tow guy.

still smell coolant even though they say they could not find a leak.

OH THIS WAS A GOOD ONE (at least I was only a few miles from home when this happened)

The new grips started sliping around the throttle tube and I lost ALL throttle control on the interstate exit ramp. (THAT WAS FUN) I managed to squeeze it tight enough to get home.

My oil light is now staying on and oil level is fine. Could be a faulty sensor, but......

And those are just the glaring obvious things

My faith in my bike is slipping at the moment

Guess I still ain't riding........

I'm surmising your adjuster is NOT going to like your phone call on Monday. It may be time to inform him that it either is repaired completely and to your satisfaction or you will get an independent inspection and talk with someone who CAN repair it correctly.

Take pictures of the different fasteners, cracked delrin slider and scratches. They're not repairing the bike to its original, pre-crash condition. Something is amiss at that shop and the agent recommended them by authorizing them to do the repair.

I'd also check with the Better Business Bureau to see if there are any complaints lodged against that shop....or maybe you will be the first.

Yamaha sends me a customer survey every time I have service/warranty work done (I assume repair too). Sounds like a good time to ***** about the dealer/service department when they send you one.

B)

zzzzip, Its not a dealer. ( I shoulda... Hindsight ya know).

MM.

My guess I would be the first to complain. From what I understand he is a good engine builder and racer, But this was a complete re-build (frame swap). Is it "FIXED" technically, yes. Is it "RIGHT" thats a big HELL NO!. Its the little stuff that makes any business a good business. Will the weights work, I guess. Will they stay on with 2 diff fasteners, sure they will. Do I want to grab 2 dif tools to work on the "same screw" NO.

Like I said, these are just the in your face things. I asked if everything was torqued to spec. he said yes. I gave him our B-O-F and pertinent material, but I wonder...

The replacement heated grip controller is mounted on the brake res, rather than pulling the old one from its slot in the cowling. I.E. I have 2 grip controllers on my bike. I told him I would move it myself....

Sorry to hear the news... :angry2:

Hopefully it will be made right before next weekend.

It's this kind of crap that scares the living daylights out of me about taking my bike somewhere to have any work done. Unfortunately, we all have our limitations and some have more than others (I won't discuss mine publicly!) While I may sound a little paranoid schizo, I've asked and shopped around for the best service departments in the northeast but still feel like, "How do I know if they did it right?". No wonder, I'm paranoid - sorry to hear about that kind of garbage, Fencer! Even I know to pay attention to detail and know that the small things are what makes a good job better. Good luck!

So, without firsthand technical knowledge, how DO I know they did it right?

Rant on/

I had a truck that was hit from behind at a stoplight. The frame was bent from the accident. It was a relatively new truck. Before I got the estimate I contacted two friends of mine in the auto insurance business. They, off the record, advised me to act like someone who was very picky about stuff because my insurance company had a customer satisfaction with repair guarantee. Both guys said my insurance company might take the cheap option if they thought I would not be picky but would total the truck if I was demanding because it would be cheaper to do it right instead of cheap---but only if I was picky. The auto dealer who did the estimate mentioned replacing the frame. I acted kind of like an uptight ***, but I got a new truck instead of a new frame.

I would not be easy going, not out of control but firm, about what was okay. The guy that did the repair screwed you over, probably saved costs by using cheaper parts and cutting corners. If you don’t insist it be made right the insurance company saves money on the repair, the mechanic gets more referrals from the insurance company, and you get screwed. If it was a car no insurance company would allow the heater control to be a rocker switch screwed on top of the dash instead of OEM.

/rant off

Please keep up posted about this outcome. I am about to explore insurance cost on bikes again and am really interested if Progressive is about customer service satisfaction or just about being cheap, err inexpensive.

PS:

I am still ticked that I had to pay the labor and Yamaha only paid for parts to have my clutch repaired at 11500 miles. Some you win some you lose. I sure hope you win this one.

Damn Fencer,

After going through all this, you should have a lot of good Karma comming your way for a while!

Hope it gets fixed and soon!

I don't think its Progressive being cheap, Its the shop missing stuff.
If that's the case, they need to be removed from Progressive's "favorite" list. Even if this is the first FJR they've ever seen, being conscientious about details is part of doing the job correctly. Do they treat their racing customer's bikes this way?

Hindsight, my man, hindsight.

They are about 1.5 hrs from me but after 2 months (and still not right), I should'a drove.

Another thought for future reference. Just because Progressive or whoever has a preferred shop, you don't have to use that shop, you still have the right to choose where you want your ride repaired and if the shop of your choice want's your business, they will work with your insurance company to get the job done and priced correctly.

don't interpret this as defending your mechanic, but i'm wondering if there's something wrong with fjr oil level sensors, as mine would intermittently come on when i first (less than 1000 miles) bought the bike; and when i got it back from the yamaha dealer for the 8000 mile service, i would come on. never was the oil low despite the light coming on and staying on.

This is a pain in the ***.

I must have missed it......When did you have your get off??? What happened?? Link??

Sorry you are going through this. Make Progressive handle it on your behalf.

I had the Progressive guy over tonight and showed him my concerns. He was interested in getting them taken care of. While he was there I noticed another problem. He (mechanic) did not run the wires through the harness on the tripple tree. He zip tied them to the fork tube. including the brake line :angry2:

That is a blatant improper repair. Service Manual has an entire section on cable and wire routing, specifically included to prevent chafing and failures. I would stand all over that one and insist on another shop doing a tear-down, inspection and repair of inside the fairings.

VERY sorry to hear about all the repair woes. Nobody should have to endure that crap.
