Called a motor sergeant yesterday to clarify what they were running, it was only stage ll apparently, no cam. So I did mispeak on that.

They now run the 103 stock and have no problems, the six speed seems closer ratio. We are still stuck with 06's.

I never understood the Stage 432 kits for a Harley-Davidson® and still don’t. Why would someone buy an ill handling, underpowered POS and then spend thousands trying to make it go faster?

It is no different than some numbskull buying a Honda Odyssey minivan, slapping some open pipes on it(needs to breath you know), dropping a cam in it, a new computer and then go out looking for Vette’s and Viper’s to race. And then having the balls to say, “You should have seen the dude in the Vette when I passed him at 140mph in the curve!†The incident only happened in their mind.

Even Willie G. had the effing sense not to race Harley-Davidson’s® in NHRA prostock bike. They get to use non-Harley-Davidson® purpose built engines to race against the big boys. And when Harley-Davidson® does run their bikes in competition they race their 1350cc in the 600cc class. The Harley-Davidson® racing team logo is a short yellow bus. Harley-Davidson® and performance should not be uttered in the same sentence. Harley-Davidson® and noise go hand in hand.

Truth is he didn’t beat a Gixxer. He probably beat some 65 year Granny learning to ride on her 1995 Honda Rebel 250. But when your ***** is that short, your self-esteem that low or your mid-life crisis is that deep it looks like a Yoshi-piped, nitrous snorting, GSXR1000 with a dude in full riding leathers everytime.

:p

100 hp on a 360lbs(dry) bike is a pretty fast bike(will smoke your hog..this is the average numbers on todays 600cc rockets..and pretty close performance numbers to our FJR's....though our FJR's have them beat on low end grunt).
I raced some kid on a 600cc repli, I think he was on an RR (if that is a real bike) From a light on a Limited access road. I had him til about 125. I was dragging three bags (givi 52) and he got along side of me at about 125. He ducked behind his screen and started pulling away.

Regardless, He felt spanked by the bagger till then. I thought it was kinda funny

So, The 600cc Repli is pretty close to the FJR as it was said

I got a story that pertains to HD performance. I bought a 1995 Honda Magna 750 in 2003 with 885 miles on it. I paid $4,200.00 for it. The guy that had it "restored" it after sitting in his barn for almost 8 years. The only work done to it was a Dave Dodge Jet Kit for the carbs. Made them a little smoother across the power band. Still had the stock engine, exhaust, gearing, etc. My brother in law bought a 2003 HD Deuce the same week I bought the Magna. A few months after we bought them, he wanted to race while out on a ride. Needless to say, the Magna ate his lunch, both from a low speed start and at highway speeds. His 17K, "double my CC" HD Deuce was humiliated. He sent the HD into the shop for some "work". He didnt tell me everything that was done, but I did see he had the new squawking chicken...uhhh..screaming eagle pipes, some kinda funky looking air cleaner box, and he told me they put some cam work on it. Total was $2,000.00 plus. He wanted to see the results of his investment, so we raced again.....and once again, my econo bike 750 put it to him. That was the last he ever said about racing.

Think about it...this guy has over 19K invested in a bike now that looks great, but can't keep up with a 99% stock 750CC cruiser. I just don't "git it".

p.s. he has had it for sale for about 6 months now, no luck yet.

Hey Chief,

Sorry bout starting the flames on your posts but you needed to be checked on the whole HIGH PERFORMING HD THING. I agree that HD's are decent bikes(certainly not great by any means)for slow rides, posing and bar hopping(I don't drink and ride But some do..More HD rides than the rest from what I have witnessed). I have always waved to all riders(no matter what they ride...even though most HD riders don't wave back...UNLESS I AM ON MY WORK BIKE(HD) THEN THEY THINK I AM THEIR BUDDY CAUSE I AM RIDING A EQUALLY CRAPPY BIKE AS THEIRS. I didn't want to flame on you too bad because you are a FJR rider, so my apologies BUT remember that most FJR riders have extensive motorcycle experience with all types of bikes and aren't gonna be sold on the whole "go fast HD" data cause they know better. I will say the VROD is the best performing(not handling)HD out there but it still won't keep up with most Japanese bikes(good competition for some of the metric cruisers though). So I say to you this...leave the performance talk to the performance bikes and the posing talk to the HD's. No offense ... I am a FAN of your 48 Chief and 64 Stella Star.

First time I went to "The Dragon" I was on my Busa. It was early and the dew was still on the road. Never having been there before, I was very cautious because of the conditions and unfamiliarity with the road. I had a couple of HD's pass me that morning!

Never owned a Harley, but have owned a Road Star Warrior and a regular Road Star. The Warrior would exceed the 125 mph mark, the Road Star wouldn't get close. Either bike, ridden well, would have passed me that morning at "The Dragon".

I bought a 1995 Honda Magna 750 in 2003 with 885 miles on it.
I had one of those! I don't think there are many cruisers today that could could beat it!

hey ww,

if i thought harleys were fsat, i would have never bought an FJR. harley sells a life style, not the best performance! i agree that MOST harley owners are posers. there are those of us that were riding when everyone hated bikers. i've played with all the harleys, and the best way i can compare a harley to the FJR is the harley is like a '32 ford coupe. you build it to what you want, as it will never be the best or the fastest, but it will become something you're proud of. the FJR's (fighter jet response) and others like it, are the cream of the crop, right from the factory, for an unbelievable price. dollar for dollar value, you CAN'T beat the metric bikes period!!! i've owned H1's, H2's, and Z1's just to name a few. i've owned OVER 100 motorcycles, and the most money i've mad are from the HARLEYS. the most money i've lost are on the metric bikes. i feel that because the metric market is aways changing, the bikes are throwaways. the harleys take TOO long to make changes to stay on the performance front. the '07 models are a perfict example of the junk they rushed to market.

for the record, the GSX1100 i beat is a true story. it wasn't an GSXR1100. the guy riding the gsx was an a**whole, and it felt good spanking him. we both ended up at a biker hang out, and he came in the back way with his motor turned off. sometimes it's not the guy with the fastest bikes, it's the guy with the BIGGEST BALLS! i held mine WFO all through the gear box.

if you like my '48 chief, you should see the '39 four i'm working on.

stay safe,

Joe,

I agree with you completely. Being fast isn't just a fast bike. Wish you would of (though I guess I didn't give you a chance) been more detailed on your run in with the GSXR1100 and your HD. Power to power there is no comparasion..... BUT.. Being a better rider and roasting another rider(inexperienced ******* squid) off of the line with proper launch techniques and being able to navigate the triple apex sweepers, trail brake, and correctly transition WILL make a scooter look very very FAST.. I am not gonna braggart(too much), but I am a old CRA fella and typically school much faster bikes(slower riders) with my FJR(I would bet a lot of the riders here do). Though, when I swing a leg on my zx10r, I rarely find riders(even experienced track day riders..unless they have had true race experience and were half decent) willing to follow my lines on the street(but I can be pretty stupid...BUT FAST). I know all too well that most Metric bikes are very advanced BUT they have piss poor value retention. Though, I don't think they are throw aways because they will run forever(if you maintain um)...But having said that... They are easily compared to the computer technology, cause they are ever changing and out doing themselves from year to year. I have seen plenty of HD's with high miles still running strong(Kinda funny...The HD's have a lot less technology BUT seem to rack up the $$$ in maintenance issues). I really think it is cool that you can appreciate the FJR but still build a '39 FOUR!!!

Keep her rubber side down,

I was rolling down I-64 in Indiana Saturday at about 90 and I noticed a bike comming up behind me. When he got beside me I looked over and it was a County Sheriff on a HD.
this intrests me. Where abouts were you?
Uh oh, it looks like InidanaTom is captain of moto cops.
Not to thread-jack this away from the apparent Harley bashing....

I-64 near Louisville is my normal commuting lanes. My typical call to action when I see a bike approaching from my 6 is to say out loud "nobody passes me and lives to tell about it", then I roll on the throttle a bit. This behaviour will have to be re-evaluated if there is a motorcycle fuzz lurking in that neighborhood.

Thanks for the warning spike. ...I don't suppose you had a radar detector on you at the time?

I'll keep it going, I beleive Spike13. The cop was just going thru the gears and pasted him.If Spike opened the throttle he may have gotten the ticket. A few years ago I was talking with some mechanics at a city garage and they told me that they always modified the bikes for the guys, I was surpised, we were talking about pistons, etc. I build some Shovel heads back when that saw some higher speeds. I always had bigger drive spockets some grinding was required, so higher speeds may not be a problem. As for the GSX1100 it is very, Very hard, impossible?,to pull a real holeshot with one unless you had spent lots of time trying. A modified HD is easy. I am only talking about from a dead stop.
