I was rolling down I-64 in Indiana Saturday at about 90 and I noticed a bike comming up behind me. When he got beside me I looked over and it was a County Sheriff on a HD.

OH ****!!!!!!!!!!!

He smiled and waved to me and was gone before I knew it. B) B)

He was flying! I didn't know those bikes could go that fast.

They do when ridden by riders rather than poseurs.
True, but they peter out at about 120, downhill, in stock form. Trust me, 120 on a Harley Road King is not a joyful experience. At all! :eek:mg:

My Experience has been;

The 88 cubes would max max max out(these are the ones built on a Tues.........Fri and Mon have always been slower..Weds and Thurs are usually somewhere in-between),with a tail wind.. around 111 indicated on the speedo...True speed on(radar, gps, lidar ect) 99-100mph. Now, the new 2007 "Police only" 103 cubes do go better(six speed and 15 more cubes) BUT 125(true speed)isn't gonna happen. I will say this...90-100 mph on a FLHTP is like being on a speed boat in the surf. It handles like crap...Wind grabs the fairing and the whole bike starts rocking back and forth.. Kinda like a front/rear tire wobble TOGETHER!! These bikes handle like boat anchors...And I can say it because I know all too well!! The Roadkings do handle better at higher speed(no bat fairing) BUT still only get 1-2 mph more on top. Sorry Chiefj48 125 isn't gonna happen...(unless you've built it up, 105 cube plus, NOS, high speed spools ECT ECT ECT...).. Sorry you can't sell me that Big Fish story.. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

NOT.....

New popcorn venue, pups. Grab a bag and settle in. Webby, my soft tail is stock 80 inches, high compression pistons and a high lift cam. 120 easy.....more if she didn't vibe so bad.

I don't have a dog in this fight but if I get bored I'll be back to buy everyone some popcorn.

You boys play nice while I'm gone. I'll be monitoring with the Nanny Cam.

I built a sportster up to 84 c.i. back around 1980 while working at a local shop. Had a 3 7/16 X 4 1/2 in. stroke that was one bad boy at the time. Put it in a Cafe Racer HD. Got abt 10000 miles out of it. Never got beat on the street with it, Yep, way back when . . . .

Well if it is written on the internet that there is no way a HD in somewhat stock form can do 125 mph it must be true. But on the other hand, I have been at Bonneville the last three years and there have been a number of HD's that have gone over 125 running in the run what you brung and the stock classes. This last year a girl on a bagger with the bags on did 154 and backed it up for a AMA record. Don't know what was done but that is fast for a full on bagger considering my friends FJR without bags did 156. sorry to disapoint WW. :yahoo:

Our motor men get the stage 3 kit with the lease agreement.Bigger air filter, FI chip, and pipes. So the 125 mph is easy. As TWN said, handling is another issue. Vibration is terrible unless set up precisely by the dealer. I think the motor mounting alignment to the frame is critical. The motor guys live on their bikes and make sure they are set up well. Motor swat cop and ponyfool could speak to this better.

Ugh... getting tired of popcorn. Anyone care if I just grab a bag of Cheetos instead?

I am not disappointed...But I ain't buying it either. A stock FLHT or roadking doing 125?? Have been on too many HD's and I know better. Pickax...do some research and check what bikes I have listed below...Maybe you can figure out why I am pretty opinionated about this... Stage III is not just a set of slip-ons last time I checked. Yes, I know a HD can do 125 But...It isn't a stock FLHT or Road KIng..... I am sure a VROD would.

WW ..... Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr uffffffffffffffffff........ :p

My '00 Road King standard, w/ larger air-filter and Screamin' Eagle slip-on's will do 100mph well enough, still feels stable, a little more left in the throttle. Get much above that, handling begins to suffer, vibrations, gets a little loose in the front. My .02 cents.

Your getting wadded up over this, so I will check tommorrow and see what exactly the lease entails. I have been told by two of our PD guys they had a stage 3 installed. This was in reply to why their bikes were so much quicker. It may be on the QT, and not on the lease agreement, and I am sure there is no nation wide "motor man kit", only an arrangement by each agency.

Regardless, the gist of my post was the set up of the bikes. We use the same Road Kings as motor medics on the fire dept. They are FLHTP Road Kings, and I have experienced a huge difference with vibration, handling issues in the last 10 years. All boiling down to dealer set up. We only use the bikes for special events and training so we put up with it. The PD motor men don't however and get their bikes "right" for themselves.
