I have read about the "poor new owner service record"? Too many service problems? Tyler has had two I think and has rented abroad as well?

Tyler to the white phone please!

Actually Mark, I've been communicating with Miss Ty regarding Spyders for a while now. She's been a gold mine of info, not huge forum complaints!

"If you are looking for a 2-up ride, I would recommend the RT over the GS or RS... it has more comfort features for both you and your passenger. The GS is more sport-oriented and I'm not sure how comfy Ms. Donna would be.

These are the main forums - SpyderLovers.com, canamspyderforums.com, and spydertalk.com/forums/

Hope that helps! :)"

"Some tips on riding one:

There is NO counter steering involved. You have to physically turn the handlebars.
You need to push your body into the turn with your legs, not lean. It's a more physical ride than 2-wheels but if you can push/slide your body into the direction you're turning, it's not nearly as hard to hold on.
On 2-wheels you normally track right or left of center - on the Spyder, you have to track dead center or the front wheels will be over the lines.
No front hand brake - all ABS and linked via the foot brake... if you're used to covering the brake, that will be a tough habit to break.
You don't have to put your feet down at stop signs but you probably will out of habit! lol

I think that's a good starter. :)"

We looked at all the models last week. ST-Limited would be the way for us two. Hope they put the bigger engine in by the time we make a leap.

They have till next year to do it !!

I'm still waiting to rent an RT. I want to spend some time on one before I think about selling off current toys. The dealer told me there would be big rebates on leftovers after the 2016 models hit the street.

The Great Scouse and Fenian Minds Do Think Alike, must be water and weather in Liverpool and Dublin sustaining our massive brains! JSNS, Bollocks!

I'm certainly not a Trike or CanAm expert by any means, only three wheeler claim to fame being the ability to flip a Harley-Davidson Freewheeler on 6/21!

But it does strike me as odd that the "Cruiser" F3 gets the bigger engine while the Spyder ST-Limited gets the smaller one, seems bassackwards to me!

"Cruiser" Spyder F3-S: 1330cc ACE three cylinder engine at 115hp and torque rated at 96 lb-ft.

"Tourer" Spyder ST-Limited: Rotax 998cc V-twin at 100hp and torque rated at 80 lb-ft.

But then the lucid thought struck Papa Chuy Viejo: This machine is being engineered/fabricated by fecking Canuckistanis, what the Hell do we expect eh!

Chief Bombardier Recreational Products Mechanical Engineer - CanAm Engine Development & Design, Mr. Clyde Ward, at home in Torontarded, Canada eh:

And .... TEN ..more mpg on the 1330cc

Which makes a REAL difference in the touring world, since the F3-S tank is 7.1 gallons and the ST-Limited tank is only 6.6 gallons! JSNS, long way between fuel stops in USA Southwest and anywhere in Mexico ese! Here's the BRP CanAm Spyder Fuel Management Officer: FJRob1300, eh!

I have owned two of them now... first an '09 RS and now the '13 ST Limited... there have been a few recalls but they were usually done quite quickly and easily during a regular service... nothing bad. Rented one for my New Zealand trip (ST Ltd) and had no issues. Have rented RTs in Colorado, Minnesota, and Wyoming with no issues. You do need to find a really good mechanic that knows the Spyders well and that you trust. Mine is in Livermore and it can be a PITA to get it over there sometimes (about 45 minutes away) but imo is well worth going there. I took it to a different mechanic in Sunnyvale that wasn't as well versed in the Spyders and it was there for six weeks with an issue that got resolved but I don't think they really knew what they were doing.

So overall, my personal experience has been a good one! B)

Friday I'm going to try to get a test ride on a RT. The dealer in Sublimity Or. has 15 RT's in stock and says I can ride any of them. In the past I've heard decent things about their service dept. so that's good to know. My bride is out of town so I'll catch hell for looking but as long as I don't sign anything I'll be OK.

Pop's is loving his Ray. Say's my brother got it up 130, so plenty of giddy up for the smile factor

So I got to spend some quality time on a 2015 RT today. I'm pretty sure I want one

. Power from the 1330 three cylinder is plenty good and the six speed paddle shift transmission works slick. It's weird not having any levers to play with but the brakes are very good and all three wheels work off of one pedal. The seat is good for a stock one but in time a trip to Russell will be needed. Wind protection is quite good and the electric windshield seems to have more travel than the FJR. It felt twitchy on the road but I was on roads that were worn with studded tires and chains in the winter. Once on the four lane and good secondary the handling was fine The dealer I went to has 17 RT's in stock at very nice discounts and extremely nice financing. I can get the RT limited for 24k out the door. The dealer in Eugene wanted 31K

The next step is to decide what to sell and how many farkles to remove. Will probably sell the wing, FJR and maybe some guns.Keep the KLR for local roads.

If I sell some then I don't need to buy another gun safe. I will still have enough to defend a small country.

Good for you Ray, sounds like a nice ride!

'tis true...how many guns do we need -- one more than we have!

After a couple close calls on the wing wanting to take a nap at low speeds I'm thinking about a Can Am for the two up travels. Any thoughts and sarcasm are welcome. On two occasions going through Glacier when the tour bus driver stopped on a tight switchback for idiots to take pictures, I just about dumped the wing with Patti on the back. It would be nice not to have that problem with my worn out spinal column.
My wing has gone away for hip and rotator cuff reasons, second bike is now a V-srom dl1000, 504 lbs, wow for the lite weight, now my FJR is the heavy. At a campground last Sat. I chatted with two couples traveling cross country on new(2015) fully tricked out Can Ams and matching trailers, both were former two up wingers and totally happy with the change.
