I was dumb. Any pointers on a tire replacement in southern Utah or N. Arizona?

No luck with Duck Creek Yamaha. It sounded like they would do the installation but they don't have tires. I've made my way to Cedar City (on Duck Creek's advice) in the hopes of finding a tire and an installer tomorrow morning (funny, not much business being done in Utah on a Sunday...). I've left a message for an online tire retailer that has its address here (K G Motorcycle Tires and Accessories; looks like maybe a guy selling online from his garage). Fingers crossed. The Shoe Goo is curing now with hopes that it might make the difference if I need to ride another 100 miles or so just to get to a shop. Needless to say, after dropping the bike on my toe last Thursday, loaded and 2-up (that's a whole other story) I could use a break about now!

Jeez man, good luck. Hopefully your making more progress than you think! Someone just posted up a while back about riding home on a destroyed tire. I think, if you take it easy, you'll be ok.

Damn! Too bad. Lots of places in Cedar City and in St.George/Washington area you could get it done tomorrow. Based upon the google map information, I thought there was a good chance you could get something today without having to risk a long ride. I guess you have lost at least a day - hopefully you can get it done early tomorrow and head for your destination. Once I found no joy on the Duck Creek place, I would likely have done a slow ride to points south. Always a crapshoot and is it worth the risk of a blowout?

Hope you have better luck on the remainder of your trip!

If it's not too late, Flagstaff, AZ has Northland Motorsports on Butler Avenue: 928-526-7959. Flag is a lot closer than Phoenix. Northland is a Yamaha dealer, and should have a tire for you. I would load that bike on a rental truck and take her there. WBill

Sorry for my absence (busy travel days and all that). Here's the update:

After whiling away a quiet Sunday night in Cedar City I made some calls first thing Monday morning. I found a 190-55 PR2 at Moto Zoo in St. George. They said they couldn't mount it for me, so after riding the 60 miles from Cedar City to St. George I picked up the tire and rode the 5 miles to Moto United. I have to say that Mark at Moto United was amazing. He got the bike in immediately, let us stow our luggage and gear under the pool table in the shop, and offered to drive us somewhere for lunch while we waited (as it happened the tire was done very quickly and it was a bit too early for lunch). When I got on the bike with the new tire and complained that I seemed to have no rear brake (turns out it just needed to be "pumped up") Mark insisted on riding it around the parking lot before we left to be sure everything was alright. Great shop, great guys, and they got us on the road by early afternoon. If I'm ever in the area again I'll go out of my way to give Moto United some business.

In case anyone is as dumb as I was at some time in the future, I would add that I rode the last 60-70 miles on the old T-30 with a layer of Shoe Goo on it. Unfortunately I wasn't able to allow enough time for it to fully cure, but even at that it hung in pretty well and kept the wires from getting more exposed (you could just see a hint of a couple of wires when this all started). The Goo was just starting to peel off in one place when I parked at the shop for the tire change, but I have to say it did a pretty damn good job of getting me that last 70 miles at interstate speeds. That said, I was sure glad I was on new rubber for the run through the desert from Hurricane to Fredonia in 100 degree temps!

Again, thanks to all of you for your advice, recommendations, and concern.

Great to hear. Too bad it put a crimp in the vacation. Hope you are able to make it up.

On the other hand, sometimes a day (or two) of laying low does wonders!

Well now it's just a story with a happy ending.

"Hey kids.... I ever tell you about the time I went 70 miles on Shoe Goo? Pull up a chair...."

Ride on, man.

And now for a programming note....

We are T-minus 4 weeks and counting!!!!

(we now return you to your regularly scheduled posting)

Ooohhh boy - wrong thread (thanks Josh). Sorry for the thread jack.

Pants likes to have a couple of cocktails on Friday evening. Perhaps I should turn in my keyboard next to my truck keys before I start?

Gotta tell you Ross, if you ever need to lie low there's no better place than Cedar City, UT on a Sunday evening!
