Great news Perry! Hope all is well and good when you reach Seattle.

If it really comes down to it, I have an '08 FJR and I'd be willing to loan my non-leaky final drive to you for the rally if there are any issues. Only thing is I'll need it back before the GBU rally in late July. ;)

I may be stopping by down at the Marriott tonight (most likely tomorrow) to oogle the bikes and say hello to any riders coming in.

Most awesome of you, L&S!!!! :yahoo:

If you can manage it, try for late afternoon tomorrow... the vast majority of riders will be in by then, and there will be lots of bikes to oogle over. ;)

FWIW, an 05 Final Drive fit's just fine on an 06 and I would assume other Gen II's as well. I suspect the swing arm is where they get the additional wheelbase. Just use the same Drive shaft.

As for the weepage. I put Oh, 40k miles on a weeping FD, 25k on the original weeping 06 FD, and then 15k on the 'ebay special 05' which also frickin weeped.

Often times on really HOT and long runs it really left it's mark in parking lots. I kept a small bottle of FD fluid with me and a 17mm ratcheting wrench, and topped it off from time to time (maybe 3x in that 40k).

All that being said, if I were headed into the IBR and had an opportunity get a known good, non leaking FD I'd take it. The seals cost a whopping $25 or there about.

I have a set of tools to replace the seals, same seals Scooter replaced many moons ago. If someone needs to borrow them simply ask.

Anything to help out, and thanks for the heads up. Wasn't sure if Friday evening would be too late or anything. I don't want to get in the way or be under foot during final preperations.

This is Perry and not Greg. Currently on my way to Seattle. Unfortunately the leak is more noticeable than yesterday. Not bad enough to get overly concern but not good to see. Called Dvp and several other repeaters and the required seal part no 93101 38001 00 is not available until august. As a min I was hoping to carry it with me for urgent repair. Not sure what to do other than start as is and hope is does not get worse. Any ideas on alternate solution?

Perry,

My offer still stands. Let me know if you want to do the swap. I ride the FJR every day, but perhaps I can wrestle my wife's Burgman away from her, or  take the bus, during the downtime. I'll repeat that I'd need the FD back before mid July (rides and prep planned).

If you want to swap tomorrow or even this evening, I can go home after work and replace the FD oil so it's fresh for the start of the rally. I'll gather together any necessary tools, grease, etc needed.

I'll PM ya and Good2Go with my cell #.

Perry did you pull the fill plug on the FD to check the oil level ?

Odds are it will be full, this will give you peace of mind..

Good Luck !!

Good on ya! :clapping:

Ya know, if you do give him yours, just put his on your FJR. Riding aroud locally with a weeping FD is not a big deal. I can understand his concern (even if I think he'll be fine) when about to start and 11 day, 11,000 mile adventure that he has invested a LOT of blood, sweat, tears, TIME and MONEY into. But just riding around locally = no big deal. If it does get really bad, then you stop riding it until repair.

Oh I plan on it, but if I can somehow source new seals for the thing then perhaps it can be patched up while he does his whole IBR thing. Would be nice to have a working FD to give to him when I get mine. Heck, if new seals go in he can just keep mine and I'll live with his. Only 5k miles difference between the two anyway.

I might have one of those seals, let me go look.

Outstanding teamwork, gentlemen. Let's get Perry's **** swapped out, and be done with it! He most definitely doesn't need to "wonder" if things are still going to be okay on Day 9... Day 10....

Once the wheels off, it's four 14mm acorn nuts, swap 'em out, and the acorns get re-torqued to 30 ft-lbs. :)

OK it appears to me like I have the following:

It appears I have:

1) 93101-38001-00 (not in the bag though, I'm 99.5% sure but not 100% sure) I compared it to the one that was pulled from my FD that is that part number and it's identical in every dimension.

1) 93210-60426

1) 93102-70167

1) 93410-23056-00 Circlip

I do not have:

93108-43001-00 which you also, *likely* should replace while you're in there.

90179-16010-00 the nut that you're not supposed to reuse but I know people have. ( I have my old Nut though)

90201-166R5-00 the washer/plate that you *might* also supposed to replace (I have my old one though).

I have two other seals also not in the bag, so I can't identify them. I *believe* one is another FD seal, and the other maybe the dust seal from the head bearings but it's in my FD bag so I dunno.

If you are interested and need these items I can ship them Fed Express tomorrow

Give me a name, address and phone number. The best way to do that is to send an email to [email protected] and/or [email protected] (or call me if you need to discuss 513-549-DISH (three-four-seven-four) EST

All you need do is replace them when you're done and mention me when you're standing on the podium :)

Let me know.

Wow guys....just checked into the hotel and was told by Greg about the response. I have already called LowandSilent and I have arranged to meet at his place tonight to replace the FD in his garage. On my way now. What a relief and unbelieveble response from all. I am truly humbled by this community. I will post up when the work is done. Have to run.....

If he needs a local place to tear down, he is welcome to use my garage, lift and tools. I am about 20 miles SE from the hotel. Just let me know

That's a darn good idea. Forgot about that. I think he is all ready headed here though, and I don't have his number.

I just sent you a PM with Perry's cell number.

Thanks! Gave a call, but no answer... left a message. I'll go ahead and get things setup here, just in case.

******* A, gentlemen.

And this is how I am sure this community will JUMP to help out our FJR brethren over these next two weeks.... whatever it takes to git 'er done, let's do it.

Approximately 15% of the entire Starting Grid at the 2011 Iron Butt Rally are FJRs - most every one a forum member here.

Proud of you people.... and here we go... Perry is just the first FJR story... B)
