Perry knows this but I will post it up here to let others can know. I will be in Buffalo with my First

Generation FJR if anybody needs to swap out parts to carry on. In a Pinch

Of course it is lightly used bike with only 210,000 kilometrs on it.

Perry's bike now has a transplanted final drive, he is fed, and is headed back to his hotel right now, hopefully with one less stress on his mind.

Great job L&S, that's how we roll in the PNW. I think I will ride down to check out the bikes on Saturday morning. :yahoo:

:clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

WELL DONE folks!

LowAndSilent - I owen you a beverage of your choice the next time our paths cross. You're a damn good dude, even if you are a Darksider. :p

Seriously - you really stepped up the plate. Makes me fukin proud to ride an FJR.

Just getting back to the hotel. I cannot thank L&S enough for what he did. Unbelievable! He has a friend for life and help whenever he needs it in the future.

After finishing replacing the FD, he and his wife had me stay for supper! What amazing people!

L&S is planning a trip on the bike with his new leaking FD at the beginning of July. Noticed that Matt has some parts listed that might do the trick. It would be awesome if he get the FD rebuilt prior to his trip.

On another note to this FJR community. I cannot begin to express the peace of mind given by knowing that we IBR participants literally have friends across the USA & Canada covering our backs if things do not go as planned over the coming days.

Good news Perry,

One less thing to worry about, a BIG thing at that. Now you know why the RT is at home.

Glad you had some qualified help as well. Had you relied on my technical expertise you'd still be wiping the oil off your rear wheel.

Outstanding job gentlemen! Big thumbs up to L & S. Motorcyclists really are the most generous people in the world.

Currently in the Toronto Airport. Plane leaves at 8am EDT. Can't wait to get out there.

And Perry, I still think your bike is the best of the lot.

Great news :good:

After that little stress inducing episode the Rally will be easy, OK maybe not.

Perry, get out there and do us proud.

Ride safe, have fun and kick some ass!

Excellent news. Glad it worked out and I'm proud of everyone. These are the stories that create the legends.

For anyone else in a similar spot (sans looming IBR demands), there's another good reason to have the early Gen 1 black rims!

Way to go L&S :clapping: Have a safe ride Perry. I'm looking forward to meeting you at the finish.

******* A, gentlemen.

And this is how I am sure this community will JUMP to help out our FJR brethren over these next two weeks.... whatever it takes to git 'er done, let's do it.

Approximately 15% of the entire Starting Grid at the 2011 Iron Butt Rally are FJRs - most every one a forum member here.

Proud of you people.... and here we go... Perry is just the first FJR story... B)
Is there anything you can do to keep this story out of Tom's daily reports?

I think Perry might appreciate that more than his new final drive. :)

I echo this. There are a lot of non-forum members in Seattle that have heard this story and are in awe over what has happened with Perry's bike over the past couple days. You guys rock and I'm damn glad to be tapped into a network with people like this.

Saw Perry again yesterday afternoon when I went over to check out the event. He was doing some prep work on the bike, just going over everything today while he had some down time. I cannot say how impressed I am with his setup. Really functional, and his wiring job on the FJR is pretty awesome. He's also been great about this whole thing and really appreciative.

Got to meet quite a few members here, including Eric (OCfjr), Nancy (Hello Kitty), and a few others. I saw Dale (Warchild), but didn't get a chance to say hello. Also saw the FJR's from quite a few other members who were off having fun elsewhere. Overall, everyone I met was pretty friendly and in high spirits (due to the rally excitement, meeting ol' friends, or because of spirits :drinks: , I don't know).

Perry invited me over to watch the start on Monday, so I think I may just have to take him up on that.

Hey L&S,

I was thinking of going to watch the start also, I'm going to go there this morning to check out the bikes, wish the rain would stop.

I'll send you a PM about Monday morning. I may head down this afternoon sometime. More riders should be in by then, and I'm supporting my wife in her first 5K this morning, so I won't be able to make it till later.

I went down this morning to check out the IBA bikes and I found this guy riding and looks like a leakless final drive.

I got to check out his bike and he has that thing wired up.

Adam,

Great seeing you again. Looking forward to having you see us off on Monday.

Marcus, it was also great meeting you. Great pic btw!

You PNW guys are an amazing bunch!

I'm trying to make arrangements to get down Monday morning to see the start too. Any idea where you two will be camped?

George,

I don't know where I will be you can call me, I plan on going tomorrow morning to do some massage for the riders.

Well...it took a little while longer than I had planned, but Perry's old leaky FD has been re-sealed.

While I never noticed any splooge on the rear wheel (who could tell through all the dirt anyway?), the pumpkin and swing-arm did get fairly dirty between bi-annual bike washes.

Brake cleaner took care of that.

And then the fun began:

Now to button it all back together.

We'll see how clean it'll stay now.

Big thanks to Auburn and BeemerReamer (SP?) for tearing into the FD and making it a learning experience for the PNW crew, and MDisher, ScooterG and Radman for their knowledge on the subject (and for the awesome FD tools).
