Hello all, I traded in the FJR! Hard decision and I'm going to miss it. I wanted something I could go off road with (well more I did take the FJR places I shouldn't have).

I bought a 2010 BMW F800GS. Way different, only time will tell if this was a good idea!!

The F800GS is on my list for the future too, love that bike for some reason :dribble: Though I'll probably get it as an addition rather than a replacement.

Care to post your thoughts of it compared to the FJR?

I rode a F800GS a couple of months ago for about 20 miles on a regular paved road...never felt at home

Impression was that the build of the bike was cheap, felt less planted, although very agile and pretty snappy.

The guy who switched bikes with me told me that he felt never at home with the FJR and it probably had something to do with the age of it...made me really laugh hard cause mine is a 2008 model...

just 2 very different animals

Congratulations, Chuck! You will love your 2010 BMW F800GS, I'm absolutely crazy wild about my 2009 BMW F650GS Twin!

I'll send you an application to AZ Beemers MOA Club #89. As you know I'm a Club Officer and we lead a lot of offroad rides, both en Estados Unidos y Mexico. We're planning a Moab Canyonlands trek in 2010, please plan on joining up with us!

Congrats Chuck!

Hope you enjoy the new ride! Lot's o places up in your neck o the desert to ride that thing. Make sure to get a spot tracker.

Welcome to the world of DS. Nothing like going down that paved road, spotting a trail or dirt road that dissappears to who knows where and having not only the desire but the ability to see where it goes. We have the R1200GS and a 650 single in the garage next to the FJR. Can't part with the feej, most awesome platform for two up touring. Tried it on the GS, just in no way the same.

Enjoy the 800, post up ride reports and bounce over to advrider.com and join up. Great DS group over there from around the world.

Congrats!!

Enjoy your new ride!! An appreciation for all kinds of rides is a prime

example of a motorcycle enthusiast.

Ride safe!!

Congratulations! The Beemer 800 was my first choice, but my wallet screamed when I pulled it out so I went witha cheaper DS bike. But it is sexy. I would be happy to hear of your adventures. Like Chris, DS is a different experience. And taking the FJR offroad can have bad consequences.

very happy for you, but wish you didn't have to choose.

I would have liked to keep the FJR, but needed the trade in for now. I will probably get another down the road. The F800GS is pretty neat, but when I get up to 70-80ish, it doesn't compare to the FJR. It does the speed, but as someone said earlier it doesn't feel as solid at speed. i guess that's a trade off for what else it can do. My wife says she find herself going faster on the F650GS (she upgraded from a Honda NightHawk 250). I find myself going slower, which might be a good thing with all the fricken cameras along the road in AZ.

I'll still be around on the forum and probably see some of you at various rides or on the road.

1. You're NOT a traitor....you still ride a motorcycle.

2. In NorCal we don't care what kind of bike you ride when you're with us. I assume the "Zonies" are the same.

3. You're smiling....I can see it in your post. :D

Double Gunny! Dear Chuck and Kathy, Please keep your eyes on the Southwest on our FJR Forum and join us on as many rides as you can. Also, keep your eyes on https://www.azbeemers.org/forum under Upcoming Rides for more rides with us!

madmike2 is absolutely correct, we Zonies don't care what kind of bike you ride when you're with us! In fact, we let that goofy doofus SkooterG ride with us, in spite of the fact that he already has TWO FJR's. Come join us whenever you can!

Chuck,

Congrats on the new bike.

The off road is a lot of fun. I have 2 DS's and love them.

Have fun and be save as they are a different breed.

Had fun when we got together with my wife.

Will have to do it again sometime.

Hope to see you on some off road adventure.

Joe

Wet dog congrats on the Beemer. I wounder if your new ride will spit out tire plugs like your FJR did. I still have to remind my rotten kids not to hall by me in the desert dirt bike riding throwing huge rocks at me.

On my short list too. Of course, now that the new Duc Multi looks to weigh in a few pounds less and a HELL of a lot more HP, I may switch my sights over to that...
