Well………it is time to explain how the thread got to where it is and why.

To start with I asked a question about a comment that Ignacio made on another post that he locked out. I didn't see where there was much in the way of politics in it so; here is his comment and my question.

And to think the words "FJR" nor "motorcycle" never appeared one single time in the body of any post.....prior to this one.
Take this political crap somewhere else! :angry2:

Ignacio never really answered my question but I could see that he felt that it was an inappropriate topic so we ended it here:

My next thought was to send him a PM (seemed the proper channel to take) and run across a thought I had, this being the thought:

Ignacio, Just a thought. Why not have a section such as "Completely Off-topic Discussions" that is open for any topic. A place to go and whine, *****, talk politics or anything else one wants to rant about. There seems to be enough interest in some of these topics, that having a place to go to discuss them, with your friends, would be fun. It is much more fun to discuss different topic with the friends that you make here than to just go to a different forum and talk to those you don't even know or have anything else in common with. I think if there was a section that was set up for just that kind of use it would keep these topics off section where we DON'T want to hear it. I don't think that we need to add another topic section, there is already one that can be used "Completely Off-topic Discussions". It just needs to be opened up a little.

Having an area like this seems to have more value in the winter when more of us are stuck at home and not able to ride. With more time on our hands I think it would be fun to have an area where we can talk about anything.

What do you think? Worth a thought at least?

Up to this point everything was going pretty well I thought. This was just an idea I wanted to run past him, not a push. Those last two comments (What do you think? Worth a thought at least?) were questions not demands.

I have no problems with the forum policies and it doesn't bother me that my idea wasn't something that Ignacio felt would work on the forum, a simple no I don't think it will work and this is why would have been enough but................Ignacio's "get off the train attitude" and "If you don't like it go start your own forum "SUCKS"!

Even if the Idea was just "****" I didn't deserve a response like that and yes it did piss me off.

I presented an idea, good or bad, and he came back with a "**** Head" response and I'm the one on the chopping block??? I guess some of you are right "I just don't get it"

Much as I'm enjoying this it really needs to end and for the same reason as the DUI thread. Not because it "got" political. For f**k sakes it started off political. What it got was ugly and the admin stepped in to save people from making further ***** of themselves, and by association, the rest of us as the whole world watched. Doesn't mean I can't call Iggy a thread nazi though. Just for fun. :lol:

It is hard to get 3,000 plus people to agree about politics or religion. But we agree on FJR's. The thing I have always liked about this forum; was it stayed on task about FJR's.

Sure, "Completely Off-topic-Discussions" should be that. I have no problem with political or religious discussions taking place in that section of the forum. You have a choice, to read it or not to read it. If you don't agree, then argue until your face turns blue and you will eventually wind up not able to communicate about the real core of this forum.....FJR's.

This will create enemies over a long period of time and cause this forum to dwindle.

Let's take TWN's thread about screwing up his bike and himself.....many of us are sorry he had the crash and his bike is damaged. In this situation, we are acting like concerned family members....which we should because we are an FJR family.

Then you get to this thread. Some of the same people who wished TWN a quick recovery, like family should, are arguing like enemies in this thread.

I have always felt this forum was about FJR's. I would like to see it stay focused on the FJR more than politics. I understand there are many members out there that like to express their views about many things other than the FJR and that is Ok, with me, as long as you don't forget who we are at the end of the day.....WE ARE AN FJR FAMILY. Treat the members of this forum like the family we are and stop this ******** arguing.

Agree to disagree and move on.

I think lately there's too much closing of threads because of a few political words. It seems the blue room is turning brown, just the reason the board was created was to stop censoring, now it's ever increasing because of certain " banned " words.It's not even party bashing that gets the door closed, just words like goverment and political is enough to draw the ire of the Iggymeister and others.

Hell, I'm not even that political because agrguing on the net is worthless, but to close a decent ( opinionated maybe ) discussion on DUI, and earlier to close the discussion on what I thought was about one of the best discussions on the board, the Hummer / Toyota thread, was draconian IMHO.

But yet on another thread someone ( who shall remain nameless, but one of the chosen /connected few IMHO ), pot shotted Bush ( not that I care so much ) and there was no reprecussion at all. So where's the continuity ?

So I see and know the rules , but the future is still going to be time consuming for admins, 'cause the political stuff will be never ending and they'll have a steady job being the political overseers and having to censor posts,and I think you'll be chasing threads and wasting time locking them down.

I think ( yeah I know ya don't care .. so what ) that Joo's board damn near runs on auto pilot and there is none of the concerns over political bashing on the euro board.

Since Highlander has brought up some valid points, IMHO, perhaps some sort of adjustment is in order for Forum structure- Why not eliminate, or at least rename, this sub-forum?

"Completely off-topic" sounds pretty open to me, and I'm probably not the only person to interpret it to encompass too wide an array of topics.

Yeah, sure there are plenty of places on the 'net to discuss religion, politics, environmental issues or other divisive topics, but I hang out here too much as it is, have a life, and don't want to try and establish a reputation somewhere else. We're the top of the food chain with respect to our common interest (moto sport-touring), as far as I'm concerned, and it's the kind of crowd I respect and want to hang out with. Those people who primarily hang out on those other sites are not the type I want to associate with, to put it diplomatically.

I discuss those "off-limits" topics with most of my other friends and family, so why not here, with my extended family? Who knows, there may be a spiritual equivalent of Jestal among us, and we go without his shared wisdom for fear of rubbing a few people the wrong way.

Do we have to wait until once a year, around the bar or dinner table at (X)FO, before our conversations are uncensored? If that's the case, fine. Let's make it official, equitably applied, and just as boring as the rigidly topic-only Land Cruiser Mailing List.

I'll tell you though, that "chosen / connected few..." comment sounds just a bit like a personal attack to me. Now fo sho the individual in question doesn't need lil ol me defending him, but let me just put this out there:

Chosen few you say? Those few have "chosen" to do what no others (myself included) seem to be willing to do in this community. And that is "Step Up". The individual whom you've targeted w/ your personal attack happens to be one of the ONLY new comers to this LD sport / addiction to spend months and months organizing multiple rallies and events over the past couple of years. He's the one that started the Deer Strike purchase (if you don't know you weren't here yet), has assisted on nearly every organized FJR event on the planet lately, and bends over backwards (scary thought, I know) to assist those in need within this forum and the LD community. Before you go busting on someone for being one of the "chosen few" (and you KNOW that has negative connotations) be sure to consider that he may just have worked very hard to put himself into a position of prestige and respect rather than having such an honor bestowed upon him for little or no reason. That's not to say that he has contributed in order to gain any one's approval or admiration...he does it for the love of the sport and for all of us.

Please consider that before firing off some comment about an individual that you, based on your comment, don't seem to know very well.

I think the forum is trying to dip its toes into both things and it just will not work. I think it is causing a headache for all.

It is like chaining an alcoholic to the outside of a bar. Either let him in or lead him away.

Politics is a specific subject but it is involved in everything in life and you can stagger all over the line. It is very broad.

In the interest of saving bandwith, admin duties and workload, maybe the first idea is better for the forum.

There are thousands of places you can go on the net or the real world to argue your opinion. Do it there. Come here for bikes. Make this place a bike shop, not a bike bar coffee house liquor barn where you can measure your **** and have a bowl of loudmouth soup.

Go out and ride your bike, come here to learn how to fix it, farkle it or talk about bikes. Everything else, can be found anywhere else.

Anyway, some really need a life.
