I wish this thread had never happened.
.... shut it down before somebody gets hurt any more damage is done!
fixed
I couldn't disagree more with the notion that this thread should be locked. So what if it's getting a little heated? Big effin deal.

Unless a thread digresses that badly into personal attacks, a thread in Completely Off-topics should never be locked. I personally feel airing some passionate feelings from both sides of the fence on any topic, to some civil degree, only makes an environment stronger. Heck if we treated each other here the same way we treated each other in the real world, we wouldn't have too many problems. We're not family, and if we were....then that might be a different matter....I've heard that can be dangerous.

Yes the Mods can lay off a bit (too many times you guys have locked threads that were just starting to get interesting). But I thank them anyways because somehow they still maintain the best forum IMO on the 'net. I have met some great folks because of this forum, and learned a ton of DIY stuff. Went on some great rides with these fine folks from the forum and managed to put my bike back together also because of them. If this forum were truly and solely just about one specific model of bike, and discussions could only be about that one bike.....this place wouldn't be here today. It just so happens that that specific (and may I say "special") bike has attracted some very unique and wonderful personalities. THAT is what I enjoy so much about this forum.

Now that Spring is nearly upon us, perhaps some gardening anologies are in order.

Moderators, I think we all understand that some cultivating is in order and necessary, but dayum, easy with the hoe will ya. Let's not uproot everything.

And by the way Bounce, I appreciate the fact that you as a moderator do post and interact as much as you do here. Would be productive I think if some of the others would too. They might find that they could exercise control & direction a little more subtley & effectively that way. IMHO of course.

OK, so I may have rambled a bit and sounded quite disjointed, but I couldn't just keep hitting "like" without adding a little something.

As far as locking this thread....just let it run it's course. At some point we'll tire of it. But if someone wants to air out some complaints, then they can resurrect it at the next long cold winter. Eventually it'll die off for good. But for a healthy and vibrant forum to exist, I think more slack needs to be given.

Hope to see you at another ride again Wheaton.

An honest question based on curiosity from the most recent reply, the OP, and the last time W went off in a huff, proclaiming he'd never come back.
Was it really based on what was said or was it simply a dramatic way of recruiting for other boards?
Perhaps when you or Iggy give someone grief over a post you could give them the address to the other forum?

This isn't a totally sarcastic post. It seems the desire of the rulers here is to a have less fun and more "technical only" forum.

Perhaps directing miscreants elsewhere for fun could be mutually beneficial to both forums.

If I didn't have an irrational dislike for Facebook I'd play in that sandbox as well. This is not a competition between fora. It is a good thing that there is another place or two to go.
I share your fear of social media. I have however relented and created an account that allows me to join a few select groups.

Careful adjustment of privacy settings (and a bogus name) at least give me some small sense of security.

Perhaps all those elementary school things that went on my "permanent record" wont come back to haunt me.

Are you kidding? Anything I post on Facebook, my wife, kids and the world can see. I really don't always want them to know what I spend on an aftermarket suspension, or that I am planning a RTE with the guys. This forum is the bomb if only because my forum family encourages debauchery, irresponible spending and frivilous use of my time, and my real family doesn't need to know.

Back in the day, when I really was 35 ;)

The internet was an anonymous place. Very few people could attach your online identity with your home / work life.

This is the biggest (IMHO) intrusion social media has made.

I refuse to allow the public at large, family, co-workers access to my "other worlds"

Can you tell me how to post to the forum?

What is the displacement of the search engine?

I'm sure some know it but a lot of you don't. The forum moderators are doing their job the way the forum owner wants it done. They may do it in ways we don't like at times and it seems to have a sliding scale as to how it's applied. The owner would be happy with a forum that was all tech and info based.

We don't seem to have as many active mods as in the past so the couple that we see the most get all the shit. It's fun to push the limits at times and I get my share of nasty grams from on high but it's not a job I would want so I will play by the rules within reason.

Just keep in mind that they have a play book written by the owner.

Watch yourself Ray...Last time I made this same observation, the owner sent me a quality PM titled, "Wanna talk shit do it to my face.". It told me how I'm only a shit stirrer and this forum was made for his friends and if the rest of us want to be here, we can shut the **** up and not complain or leave. It was DEMANDED that I post a retraction and an apology. My response with my phone number and an offer to talk about what everyone was bitching about was ignored, or maybe it was just my offer.

My comment was made on "the other forum" right before it crashed, so I'm 90% sure who went crying to daddy and gave a half assed version if what I said. I think I got a warning too, but whatever.

So, watch what you say and don't make assumptions about what anyone wants or feels.

Just out of "curiosity", who is/are the owners...Not that I really care.
I believe that it is public record that this forum is owned by forum member slapnpop. This is supported by the member list* sorted by ascending join date. A quick query at "whois" will give you the domain name registrar, again... this is public record.

Although he is the owner he is not a frequent poster or particularly active in the day to day administration.

If you joined recently you may never have actually seem him post before.

*A strange curiosity of the forum member list is that the second registered member here was named "troll" and managed only 2 posts.

I think it's actually a shame that the guy who owns the place doesn't participate anymore. In the above mentioned PM, he noted excessive sheep jokes and off topic rants as why he avoids the place.

Honestly, he could say **** it and shut the whole thing down. As much as we bitch about stuff sometimes, maybe I wouldn't blame him. He sure as Hell isn't doing it for the money. My point is, whether we agree with how stuff runs or not, the guy who makes the rules makes it possible. I know WE contribute the knowledge and character, but how would it be if religion, politics, personal attacks, and plain meanness were permitted unchecked.

I'm a member of a shooting forum I visit very infrequently. It is ruled with an iron fist and many members are crybabies. A cuss word there gets treated like a presidential endorsement here.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

That would have gotten you banned from that shooting forum. Think of the kids man!!
I'm participate in a hunting forum. Any questionably bad word will get you banned (family site). But a DUI is no biggy and they will help you book a trip to Canada bypassing the laws.

You know, I think if all of us were together at a meet, none of this would be an issue. We could all say the very same things, that we've typed here on this forum, at the meet, and 99.9% of it would be ok. There's something about it being in written form, where it stays out there, as opposed to spoken form where it's there for only a few seconds, and then gone.

Human nature will always affect an environment, no matter the environment.
