I am sad to say that the further down the tubes this one goes, the more my opinion is swayed back towards the Admins. Perhaps I had forgotten how far out of line a thread could drift if left unsupervised.
I agree, Redfish. But, just look at it as kids who have been deprived of ice cream for a year and all of a sudden they see that Mommy has opened the fridge door and is letting them go nuts for a little while. Don't worry, they'll stop when Brain Freeze sets in. :)

Wheaties -- it's your thread. If you're lurking, what say you?
Rich, you took time out to show me around Kali, and backed me up on this thread so I'll answer this one time. I stand by what I said in the first post. I love the people I have met at the various FJR gatherings and rides. When I have posted here, and I MAY have posted more than I should, it was to post up what a good time I was having through a RR or josh my friends or make some counter statement at something when someone seemed rude to someone else or was attacking another member. I admit that my words are sometimes way overstated or outrageous. I rarely, if ever, gave any sort of technical help...because, as much as I have learned on this board, that just is not my forte. However, if you look at whatever gazillion posts I have made over the years, I would challenge you to see that they were warn worthy or timeout worthy.

However, that's not my call. Things have changed around here regarding moderation and they are and will be making the calls for now and in the future. No thread is going to change that. However, I was not going to go away without letting people know what's up.

I'll see you guys at the gatherings as always, but someone else is going to have to do the wisecracking around here, cuz mine isn't welcome. I'll be in the other sandbox where I can josh and be myself.

I will lurk now and then to look at old RRs from time to time, Andrew's, Tyler's, RFH's, and others...and also to see about the latest dogshit cluster **** you guys have goin on.

Later...

I have been watching this thread since it began and I have to say, I don't get it.
I recognize that the moderation is a little heavy handed at times, and even insulting when your post is labeled 'crap', but that won't happen if we simply play by the rules. If the rules themselves are the problem, then we should certainly discuss a change, but I haven't read anyone proposing a rule change.

The conversation so far has been more about the moderation style, which is strongly influenced by the personality of the individual moderators. You may not like one or more of the moderators, but the job is necessary and someone has to do it. I don't intend to volunteer.

I also don't object to civil disobedience if you think your cause is just and you are willing to accept the consequences. But don't intentionally break the rules and then wonder why you got your hand slapped. The same goes if you break the rules inadvertently. The penalty seems silly to me, but I don't think a warning note from a moderator or even a timeout is very painful to withstand. People are taking this stuff too seriously. It won't go on your permanent record.

I agree on this one, Mark. I've gotten pissed off as Hell here a few times myself but, it's never a good idea to completely cut yourself off. This place is Awesome! I'm sure you know that. My approach is to try and keep the kids from crossing the line too much and to let the Mods know that if this place turns in to a Gulog, it's going to disappear. It needs some personal interaction (texture) along with the info. This place provides all the info in the world that you can ever need or want for your FJR. But, I also provides many, many people with place to hang out with some great friends that you wouldn't have met in a million years. Let's not lose that. :)

Finally we have a topic that is going haywire again.

Hell, the only reason to follow a nine page topic is if you never know where it's going. Of late, when posters are forced to stay on topic, we get 3-4 pages of everyone chiming in with the same 2 cents. Sorry, but that gets boring real fast. This thread in and of itself isn't all that interesting, but at least I can come back everyday for the two or three zingers someone gets off. If nothing else, the irreverent pictures being proffered are worth the price of admission.

Sure, some moderation was needed when technical discussions got way off course, but when a thread is already posted in "off topic" territory, by all means, let it run its course.

JSNS,,,, well except for this,,,Beemerdons! post more pictures of what's her name, you know who I mean, that Hispanic actress with the great personality. I'm too lazy to google her.

No problem Mark!

An dougie boy is right. This thread has been hijacked to Flagstaff, shut it down before somebody gets hurt!

An honest question based on curiosity from the most recent reply, the OP, and the last time W went off in a huff, proclaiming he'd never come back.

Was it really based on what was said or was it simply a dramatic way of recruiting for other boards?

Absolutely not, Wheatie simply does not work that way.

What a completely shitty thing to say.

And you're a fucking moderator?

Yeah.

Close this thing down.

Totally uncalled for. What a dramatic way to drive folks away. Bullshit.

If it was, the only people who would follow him would be those of his our ilk whose participation here seems largely unappreciated.
And we're a fairly small - but longstanding - group so nothing to to be concerned about

While I am 100% certain that was not Wheaton's intent, you most certainly just did it. As I read that post my decision to begin active participation elsewhere was made.

Thanks.
