Here's my two pennies. I like this forum a lot maybe too much since I check it all the time for new content. I like the people and I like the info. I've never been NEWPERTed (and I've never posted a sale item 42 times in a row!!

) I try and follow the rules but thats me and always has been.

But I too wish there was more emphasis placed on having fun here I'm sure everyone likes to cut loose and thats why we come here, a little like going to Las Vegas (or Toronto).

And since everyone is being honest like Chuck"35" the picture I used for my image here is....not really me, there I said it....I'm not really that good looking in person.

It's been almost a year since my last post, and I left pissed off. Yeah, heavy-handed moderation and an overall chilling in the tolerance for the kidding around and fun that always made this a "go to" place for me. As a resource and technical reference about FJRs and everything, it's the best, but it was also (and primarily) a great place to hang out daily, even when I didn't have a technical issue to figure out. But by the time I left, I think that had already changed, so probably like my friend Mark, it was "something" that pushed me over the edge.

So I've been silent, but like others who don't or won't post these days, I still come in to cherry pick for the parts I want to see. And of course with the way I left, this thread just leaped off the screen for me from the first post. But here's a nod to the moderators about the way this has been handled: I am very glad to see the discussion has been open and complete up to now. I'm glad it has NOT been belittled by being shunted off to NEPRT-land. A good open discussion on this subject can only be healthy for a forum like this.

I won't run down a list of gripes that I may have had with the forum, the admins, or even some of the other contributors--no point in that--but there IS this one thing. . . :) From the big "rule 10" uproar a year or so ago, and the beginning of pulling "off-topic" posts out and "disappearing" them, labeled as "Off-Topic Crap," well, that's just fucking offensive. It's pissed me off every single time I've seen a post with that label ever since that shit began. For you admins to label somebody's contribution to any thread as crap because you deem it off-topic or unworthy conveys a level of disdain and sense of superiority that I find too insulting to bear. The fact that we can't even see what thread it split off from adds frustration to the insult. If you're really TRYING to elevate yourselves over the mere "users" of this forum, this is a great way to go.

OK, that's the end of the rant part. Here's why I'm writing now. I'm far from the only guy who hasn't posted much recently because of this alienation, and as a result, the really nice close ties that we've had in my geographic area in particular have been weakened. It's just a website, not a club with a clubhouse and dues and officers like the Sons of Anarchy, but when you take away the meeting place and shut down communication, people will drift off. Like shutting down the local biker bar--where do the Harley guys go? We don't have nearly as many local group rides as we did a few years ago--a damn shame.

I had a nice ride Monday with my friend Gary--Gfran--who I met through this site, of course. That's where I met all my local FJR-riding friends. And my non-local FJR-riding friends too, some of whom I've still never met in real life. So the fewer of us post, the more we lose. I just decided, thinking about this whole issue, and prompted by this thread, that I've given the FJR Forum moderators way too much power over my life. I may not fully agree with the way they run the site, and with Majicmaker, I'm also "thinking (hoping) that the mods might being thinking this one over a bit," but whether anything changes or not, I can't get what I want out of this forum unless I participate. I'm encouraging Mark and any other dropouts to think about doing the same.

Maybe the reins will loosen a little, but even if not, I'm coming back, and hope others might too. It's the best way we have to keep in touch, and for me, THAT is the main value of the FJR Forum.

Exactly, Mike.

I've been riding since 1965 or 1966, and I've never before seen a bike or an internet forum generate the kind of camaraderie and riding friends that this one once did, especially in this geographic area. So I've hated it as we've lost so many from this board. I've been literally hearing complaints about an arrogant tone since well before the heavy-handedness of Rule 10 created a wave of expressed dissatisfaction in posts on the board itself. Until then, I usually brushed that aside and counseled understanding -- I particularly liked some of the admins, Iggy among them. But it was the Rule 10 stuff and the way that was carried out against some people I know and like that made it almost impossible to ignore or defend anymore.

I sure wish we could get back to acting like friends here.

Well said Mike.

I miss the days of old and mainly "lurk" these days for pretty much all the reasons you and other have so eloquantly written here. Many times I have started to add or respond to a thread, but end up deleting the post for these very reasons. I will add that threadjacking did get out of control (especially when your bike was torn apart 4 hours before you were leaving on a 3 week trip) but 99 times out of 100, the side trip was worth it.

It's a short life people, lets all go for a long ride and enjoy some of the finest peeps our group has to offer. Even if they piss you off now and then.

We all know how things work around here.

It's all about tolerance.

I think we'd all be better off if we forumed less an played outside more....

SacMike, I've come within a hair of mentioning the exact same thing about how extremely offensive the title of: "SPLIT - OFF TOPIC CRAP" is. It's made me cringe every time I've seen that. Annnnnd I've seen it often. Thanks for pulling that trigger. :)

Thanks Mike. Most don't know that in spite of the self-exile, you've been lurking, and I for one appreciate the help you gave via PM on an installtion of my horns, that no one else replied to on the fourm.

I was recently chosen to be part of a "split off-topic crap" thread, and felt the same way. It's not like I was posting a picture of Beemerdon's moobs either, but that would have been epic!

Nice to see you back, hope you stay and damn it man, is your bike still running?

I will add my compliments to our Admins here. Thank you for leaving this thread open and letting it run its course. I confess that I did not expect this level of tolerance, but for the most part everyone has acted respectfully. My compliments and thanks to all involved.

Yes, I already knew that you could look on anyone's profile page and see when they last visited. I had checked both Wheaton and SacMike's page before and knew that they "lurked". I figured they were entitled to their privacy if that is what they wanted.

+1

Sacramento Mike's been missing? No wonder I haven't quietly chuckled in some time.

As for the Split Of Topic Crap, when I got my first one, I wore it as a badge of honor. Can't wait to accumulate more.

Now go away Mike. Nobody likes you anyway.

Perhaps a list of Poles and Slavs? But wouldn't that be political?

Oh, wait. Maybe that Pole meant a poll?

Let's start a poll to see if we should make a list of Poles.
