The fuel pump has two fuel filtration devices. At the base of the pump where the fuel enters the pump unit there is a 'fuel inlet strainer'. This is the intake filter that was shown above. This strainer protects the pump from damaging non-liquid debris.
Near the top of the pump unit is the fuel filter. The vertical pump pushes the fuel to the top of the pump unit. The pressurized fuel then passes thru the fuel filter and then travels down and out the outlet hose connector.
