Today was a great sunny day, so I decided to go out for a short ride. I have a tinted visor on my helmet, and while I was riding, I flipped up my visor about 3/4 of the way open to get a better look at my Garmin Nuvi that I just installed. While it was up, I happened to notice that my helmet noise went almost silent, as if I had ducked totally behind the windscreen. It seemed to make a better transition for the air stream to go completely over the top of my helmet instead around it. This was a huge difference, since my helmet is not the most quiet design around.

(FWIW, I am not suggesting that everyone ride this way, it was just an interesting observation. . . and before I get lectured, I still had eye protection with my sun glasses, but no air was hitting me in the face anyways.)

I notice the same thing with my Arai Corsair Helmet and V-stream windshield. I now ride most of the time with my visor partly open.

p.s. watch the ATGATT fanatics jump up and shout...thats those that are still around and have survived the many "crash club" antics from relying on gear instead of working on skills LOLOL

Same here!

Shoe Helmet

Fjr Higher Windshield

Glasses on and visor up = quiet ride!

Mine does that too. But I can only put it up a notch or two. If I raise the visor too high, I get blasted with wind.

So your assumption is that anyone who has crashed did so because they were unskilled. There is no need for gear, if you are a skilled rider. No need to explain any further, I can already tell your head is way too far up your own ass. :****:

WoooHooo.........it's not even friday yet......sign me up for this one.

I always ride with the shield up unless it is raining or cold. I still use ear plugs if riding faster.

I've found the same to be true, although I lift the sheild for some air not noise reduction. I've never really had an issue with helmet noise.

I don't believe in mandatory helmet laws either. Your life, your choise. I didn't wear one for years and now I do, just feels safer.

I'm assuming the gear over skills comment was a joke.

Same here - if you're OK with getting your melon squished, s'ok by me. To each his/her own. Just don't try and sell me on the "it'll break your neck/helmets cause more injuries than they prevent" horseshit.

I agree, as long as you have insurance. I don't want to have to pay for your medical bills if your melon ever does get squished.

+1, I am all for less government control too, and I agree that I don't want to be paying anyone's medical bill. Unfortunately, with the litigious society that we live in, it doesn't always work out that way. It seems that a lot of people are always quick to blame someone else for the consequences of the stupid choices that they made !!!

+1 on that.

Doesn't matter how many miles or how long you have been riding, one day the "black" stuff comes at yer very quickly.

Never assume, thats my motto.

Ride safe.

A buddy of mine says "The only difference in wearing a helmet or not is whether you spend a week in the ICU before you die." He's a doc, rides a Harley, and never wears a helmet. For me, I always wear one.

I always wear my helmet. Just in case I get squished out there I want to make sure the poor guy cleaning up the mess accounts for all the little bits of brain matter. I need all the help I can get come reincarnation…don’t want to be any stupider the next time around….
