I like 85% of my current job and have goals to meet by year's end. And the crew is really, really good. This new gig might have been better in some respects, maybe not so in other respects. One never really knows what the advertised job entails until thrown into the mix. And I'm still employed, making a good pay check, and able to afford FjRay and various motobike resto's.

No matter what you did Don, you were following someone's advice. The responses on the forum covered all of the bases.

Honestly, it would be nearly impossible to beat out someone who has experience in the specific skill they were looking for. The good news is that he powers that be have looked you over and didn't just write you off.

 
After reviewing this thread I believe there was one key piece of advice that was omitted, and that omission may be the reason you were not #1. You should have provided some personal "special" services to the selection committee members... wink, wink... nod, nod... you know what I mean.
