Sorry, Alan, to hear of your loss. Hoping your mom does well with the love and support that surely surrounds her at this time. If the the block is anything like the chip, he sure as hell must have been one helluva block! Here's to remembering the good and bad times, the things that make a father and son bond special. :drinks:

Alan

So sorry to hear about your loss. Thought are going out for you and your family.

Alan, such tragic news. I really don't know what to say other than offering my condolences to you, family & friends. I am terribly, terribly sorrowful about your loss, Heidi

My condolences for you and your family.

There are still days I would still like to tell my Dad stuff, what I did what's going on. He has been gone 32 years... My mother 42 years.

Alan,

I just found this today, and am so sorry for your family's loss of your father. He sounds like he was a wonderful man, and it's good that he left things in such a well-organized state for you to step in... I need to do something similar for my sons!

My thoughts and prayers for all of you, but especially for your mother. My mom had a difficult time after my dad's passing, and I know the challenges you are facing.

Good thoughts headed your way, my friend!

Don

From an earlier post, I would like to reiterate --Thanks to everyone for all the kind words, good thoughts, prayers and for the support!

I just returned from Tn late last night. The memorial on Friday went very well, it was tough to get it arranged so quickly. We were surprised by the Governor of Tennessee sending a tribute letter to be read at the service and also by a member of the Governor's Council that spoke an eulogy. My mother was supported by almost everyone from her side of the family as well as a large number of my father's acquaintances that worked with him for the 15 years that he was the Chair of the Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disabilities.

On Saturday we had a service at the Tennessee Veteran's Cemetery where we had an Honor Guard Ceremony including the folding and presentation of the flag. This was an amazing service that left no dry eyes. If any family has a member that has served and will be interred in a Veteran's Cemetery, please honor them with this tribute. I believe that this ceremony was both a release and a restorative for my mother, above and beyond any other event over the last week.

Now it is about the living, my mother will need lots of support as her 58 years of the classic American marriage comes to a close. This will be the first time she has been alone since high school. We aren't sure if she will be able to live at home, but we will so everything we can to help her.

And now, life goes on...

I also have a question about the Honor Guard. All the members of the Guard wore crossed pistol collar pins, which as far as I know denotes Military Police. Is it normal for MPs to do Honor Guard duty?

yes, I've served on many a Veteran Hero's funeral mission with the Patriot Guard, and I still flinch and smile at the rifle volleys, and can't keep a dry eye during taps as I salute as smartly as a Marine GSGT taught me.

I've seen many different MOS soldiers, sailors, and airmen/women serve as Vets Honor Guard. At Fort Polk near me, I think anyone assigned any battalion can volunteer and be approved by their CO to serve on honor guard duty.

Then they take on additional training and practice in the craft.

Pls let us know how it goes with your Mom and your family in the days to come. I know about Christmas less one, and I was buoyed by the wonderful memories of Christmas's as a child and young adult, and blessing of the many years I did have each of my parents here with me.

My Dad passed very suddenly and all of us were off kilter during that time. In 1987, the Patriot Guard didn't exist, and I had no thoughts come to mind, nor had any clue who to call for an honor guard. The cemetery "service" was just my immediate family gathering for a few minutes to say something about Dad. I know how special a Military Cemetery Service can be. I like to think I ride and serve for my Dad now.

Merry Christmas,

Mike

in you know where
