It is January 25th, the worst time of winter. Christmas is already over, it's bitter cold, always raining, everybody has the flu, blah blah blah...
Like alot of you I have not been riding my bike at all. Everyone in my (wife's) house has been sick, I've been working some overtime, everything is just miserable and dull here. I worked nights for the last couple of nights and thought I might have to work them through the weekend. I came in this morning, crashed on the couch and woke up miserable. Grouchy, aggravated, I then found out I did not have to work tonight. What? I don't have anything I have to do? The wife is at work, the kid is at school, well let's see what the weather is doing.

I open the door to blinding sunshine! It is 75 degrees F! My hands actually started shaking as I got my helmet and boots out of the closet. I thought about calling Dad but had an awful moment of selfishness. I ain't calling anybody! I am just going, the only one who needs to know besides me is the motorcycle.

Where to go? I only have a few hours of freedom...Hmm. Well, we had lots of rain a couple weeks ago and I know the water has not gone down. Where there is water, there might be curves... I decide then and there that I will not take any pics of water where water is supposed to be. All water pics will be flood water. The bike is filthy from riding to work in the rain but I am NOT taking time to wash it. I am just going.

An important note here. Since I did not invite Dad there are no FJRs in these pics. I am sorry, it is just my Honda. Don't hate me.

First I went down Ridge Road.

Then I went down Bluff Road.

I found some very lost Canadians. They were not very friendly but they looked delicious graceful. I wonder if they knew they were actually in someone's back yard?

Heading toward the levee I see a BBQ joint. I had not eaten there before and suddenly realized that I had not eaten anything yet today. That is one of the joys of working nights, you don't eat when you are supposed to. So, at 1:20 in the afternoon I had a Pulled Pork Sandwich for breakfast. It was not very good as BBQ goes but it did fill a hollow spot and even bad BBQ is tasty. The sauce was too sweet and the pork was too mushy, but I enjoyed it anyway. It did look pretty good though.

After working nights and no recent bike time I was not smooth or coordinated on the bike. The bike felt great as always but my control inputs were terrible. I decided not to push my luck so I rode like an old man on a Harley. Oddly enough when a really tight curve would surprise me, the bike would lean over, the suspension would compress and the PR2s would grip like glue. If I just let the bike do its thing, everything went smoothly. I love Sport Touring Motorcycles.

Not often you see this in South Louisiana.

We do have some nice Live Oaks though.

The Barthel Store. It closed after Mr. Barthel was killed during a robbery.

Last pic of the day was St. Gabriel Catholic Church. This church which is facing the Mississippi River Levee was built between 1774 and 1776. It was completed in July of 1776. Kind of strange to think the French were here building churches while the 13 colonies were fighting a war on the Northeast Coast.

Bust, I swear I thought of you today! On this ride I came upon some...ahhh livestock. There were sheep and there were two donkeys. I was about to stop and take pics when I noticed the owner watching me. Somehow I felt he knew those pics were gonna be used inappropriately. I just rode on but I sure felt like you would have appreciated those pics.

Thanks for the RR. It's been single digits or less and very windy here all week. I'm happy to see someone riding where things are green. How were those fries?

Red, it's kinda scary how quickly you've fitted in with this group... ;)

This is great. Can't wait for the weather to break here. I cleared five inches of global warming off the driveway tonight, and it hasn't been above freezing in at least a week.

Red, nice report you got there out. In the beginning I thought, while seeing your Honda....WTF, did I log on to the wrong forum :) ?

But I know very well what you went through..not having my face is the wind started bothering me a lot. Last ride I had me was on New Year's Day.. Now today was my day, had me a PGR mission and needed to roll that bike out, I just had to. Sure I didn't have mid 70's, but mid 40's would do for me....some 160 miles later I was as happy as a child just celebrating, Xmas, bday and Easter rolled into one event...

Well done, rest assure, even if the BBQ sandwich didn't meet your expectation, it surely looked awesome!

On behalf of the all the nut cakes like me on FJR Forum who enjoy the usual mayhem found here I must express deep disappointment regarding the failure to stop and take live stock photos.

Seriously great ride report and thanks for posting!

Nice to see somebody is getting out their riding. Sure as heck most of us the Specific Northwet are not.

Stinkin innernet!!! It's worse than the wanted posters at the post office.

Probably a good thing you didn't take any pictures as I'm pretty sure you'd have been interrogated for a few hours.

Shoulda' stayed here, Tom. 68o today, sunny blue skies, gorgeous.
Ya Tom. I only brush the frost off the beer! Still waiting for the shock upgrade so not riding now.

Well done RH - I recognize some of those roads, but not all of them. Suggest we re-visit them together with your dad one day soon!

I'll be the one riding the nice looking sport touring motorcycle ;)

Saw TominCa explaining that the "global warming" in his driveway needed shoveling? Double checked, see you are now in Pittsburgh! Tom, you picked a bad time/winter to come to PA, It can get depressing at times. Just break out the maps and make plans for rides when the white stuff disappears.

There are a lot of good road I've seen here for when I ride the bike east in the spring. I'm kind of out of my element not being able to rip off a ride when the weather offers a break right now...and there have been some nice days.

One thing's for sure, I'd ride more here in PA than that Bugman dude does in CA.

Maybe he'll join me for the cruise back east. He did it once on a Harley Sportster, so I KNOW he can do it on a FJR.
