Rode Frank last night with lid and gloves but sans jacket, t shirt only in 80+ temps. It was lovely. Sometimes I even ride sans helmet, but rarely now. ATGATT is a good idea, don't get me wrong, but sometimes ya just gotta live free or die, or sumpin like that. ;)

ATGATT if my kevlar reinforced jeans count.

Vanson VX3 perforated textile shirt with CE armor - very comfortable over T-shirt or light short sleeve shirt.

Nolan N102 helmet. Face shield partly open to catch breeze better than helmet vents.

Windshield on FJR is down in lowest position. Nice breeze.

Leather gloves of medium thickness. Could do better here I suppose.

Sidi Vertigo Corsa Air boots with vents open - most comfortable boots I've ever owned, and the air feature is very cool.

Diamond Gusset kevlar reinforced jeans - very nice product, but no armor.

The Sidi boots and the Diamond Gusset jeans aren't really fashionable for my work, so if I'm riding to work, I'll throw a pair of pants and suitable shoes in a saddle bag and change at the office.

I had two wrecks 40 and 36 years ago. First was a low side slide in a sandy spot. Did some good knee damage on that one through regular blue jeans. Took several years for knee to get back to something like normal. Second was an exciting high side in a washboard surface hairpin. The whole top of the bike was damaged... mirrors, bars, speedo and tach, gas tank top, seat, and tail light assembly. I ended up with a pretty good three corner indentation deep in my Bell helmet. Had I not been wearing the helmet, I would have been either dead, or a vegetable. I've also lost some friends to bad judgement, and to general wrecklessness (their own, and the wrecklessness of others).

No one plans for accidents. That's why they're called accidents. ATGATT is good policy. I don't wonder if I should bother with a helmet, or proper boots.... I wonder if I shouldn't be wearing armor in my pants and better gloves.

MOTGSOTT, AOTGMOTT

I don't like seat belts either. Unless I'm upside down in an airplane. Then they tend to come in handy.

For me, MOTGATT to and from work, ATGATT for riding of any distance. I love my Cycleport mesh jacket and pants. The Cycleport pants are the only pants I've ever found that have the knee armor over the knee when on the bike! I use Kushitani racing gloves even in the hottest weather. The knuckle bones are really ugly without skin covering them. I know I'm risking skin when riding to work in Levi's, but I never ride without the Kevlar jacket, helmet, gloves, and boots.

Solo

I used to be totally brave when it came to wearing gear, until last November when a dog hit my front wheel from the side @ full speed. My Shoei saved my life. The doc said it would have been gray matter without it! So I grew all new skin on my left knee after those Levis exploded. This was in the middle of no where, totally freak accident, like a lightening strike or something rare. I told myself it would be armored gear from now on heat or not. Those carbon fiber gloves were shaved down a 1/16 of an inch, and not a mark on my knuckles. I sure enjoyed all those corners for twenty years with a helmet ,gloves and t-shirt!

I rode in shorts and t-shirt for years back when I was young and invincible without a mishap, but you can only get away with that for so long. Now it's ATGATT for me. I wear the same gear in hot or cold and just open the vents in the hot weather. I wear shorts under my riding pants and unzip the legs enough to get some air in. When riding on really hot days I believe I dehydrate faster with mesh gear than with my normal gear so I don't use mesh.

And I always wear a seat belt and did so long before it was required by law.

ATGATT. Have Cyclopert Ultra II Kevlars, which are toasty even on moderately warm days, but comfortable as long as you're moving. May get some mesh gear to cool it down a bit.

I'm with you on that. I wear what I feel I need. I have been riding for over 40 years in this manner and will probably continue to do so. I guess I am just not politically correct.

Hasn't got anything to do with political correctness. It has to do with personal responsibility, understanding of mortality, and willingness to take risk.

So why do you boys make such a big thing about people who choose to ride differently? It would seem ya like to play superior to those who chose to think differently.

ATGATT....

I actually had never ridden any other way until i went to the track. The night before, going to tech inspection and stuff it was common and acceptable for everyone to ride their bikes down to the front of the paddock in shorts, t-shirts, flip flops, no helmet... So i did it too.

Oh... my... god... when i got back to where we were camping i asked my dad "why is it the MOST AMAZING THING EVER to ride without a helmet?"

I envy you guys that had a period of youth and social climate where it was common and you didn't know any better. If there is a heaven, i believe it involves riding around at breakneck speed in the summer with no gear and no chance of injury.

but... yeah. until i shuffle off this mortal coil, ATGATT no matter the heat. i wear a camelback. <_<

Not me, man. While an advocate of gear, I'm also an advocate of letting peeps do what they wish in that regard. I have been on both sides of the fence. I have even crashed on a hot day when I chose not to wear the gear. It was my risk, and I took it. That time, I lost. Of course, because of that and the fact that I still have no definitive cause for the crash, I try to wear the gear all the time now.

Ultimately, it comes down to personal choice and the level of risk you are willing to accept. If you can accept it, so can I. Let your conscience be your guide. I mean, to me, this is not an action that puts others at risk like doing wheelies through a residential area, or running 120 through a school zone. It's your skin. Risk it in whatever fashion you can deal with.

If we were going to eliminate all risks, we'd have to park our scoots and not even ride. I'm not going to do that, either.

Doesn't matter to me how you ride. Take it all off if you like.

I do hope I'm not paying for your medical support at some point....

GUNNY!

Therein lies the rub. Your actions eventually do affect me. Don't think otherwise.

BTW, What heat? It's 650 today and it may not break 700.

I do perforated leather/textile 2-piece and yes it gets warm if your not moving. if your moving you are at ambient outside temps + engine heat. I think that this is about as good as it gets. I dont wear the leather/textile pants when i go to work (i just look too darth vador)

ATGATT it is only 98.6 in side my gear 105 out side.
I dont think he was asking about "that" kind of gear, you perv :clapping:
