1978 I think.. Original owner, my bro in-ex-law.

Stored indoors it's entire life.



First in Oregon now in Tucson.



He says it may need a top end. Honestly, I can't see this guy riding it hard enough to do damage, and it was always maintained. Parts still readily available.



Carb run dry prior to storage.



It's with pink slip, owner is re-registering.

A DT 125! Reed valves, electric / kick start , auto lube!

My very first bike was a 1970 AT1 125...POS when I got it, learned a lot fixing it (from the PO tearing it up)

It did have some nasty piston rattle until the piston skirt broke off. Punched it out, all better.

Very easy engine to work on. Great little bike...

Had a green one, same year. Bought super cheap to ride with my son when he got his first dirt bike (pw 80). Great fun, I had to upgrade to a 250 when he got a 125 to stay one step ahead.

Did a little research, and you will know better than I, John, but I think it's a DT125E.

Ray, I've been trying to buy it for over 12 years. It took my in-law to become an ex-law, find a new wife (good for him, really, well done!) and a new life to make it available. Glad to hear even a cave man can do it... hey, you wanna work on a 125 two-stroke?

That 125 two stroke has the power of most 250 four strokes now a days. Mileage wasn't great..

I'd buy it if it wasn't so far away.

A torque monster. My neighbor had one, his son took it out W/O permission, threw the chain thru the cases.

I got to swap the cases when I was 16 or 17... That bike was fun!!!

Very similar to the '73 CT3 I've been working on (actually , kinda shoved off in the corner for the last 6 months).

Mine was in terrible shape, even had to fab up and weld on a new engine mount tab.

Yours is closer to my old one. I didn't have reeds, but the low ft fender I also had, same chain guard, different tail light assembly

I later had an MX version, same color as yours, forgot the year...

I have fond memories of the Bighorn. Rode one for a weekend back around 74 at a buds ranch. I still have a limp to this day...

I'm more familiar with the CT and DTs... Had a dt250 for a couple of years..

Yea, that Bighorn would dig 30' trenches!!!

My neighbor had a DT 125, a DT 250 (purple as I re-call).. My first 250 was his old, 1975 YZ 250 Monoshock (first year) Raced that in the Hamptons (L.I.) in AMA sanctioned races... What a blast!!

The AT's, CT's, DT's were all pretty much the same platform for years. I had to split several cases (including my 1974 125 YZ) for a blown lower rod bearing-(let let loose in a race), a blown second gear (idler gear), etc... The AT1 had two bad gears when purchased, the kick starter gear and the adjacent idler gear to it...

One of the things to remember with these two strokes is that air leakage is your enemy. The crank case, bearing seals, etc can all be sources of air leaks and poor performance.

Quite true; I lost count of the number of pistons I holed from an air leak through one side of the center main seal from the tranny on one of my X6s.

That Suzuki is SUPER CLEAN or restored..

I'd love to pick up an RZ 350 or 400 with the bumble bee yellow pant job!!
