I'm new to the forum and just wanted to say hello to everyone. I picked up my new FJR1300A 10 days ago on the 23rd of July and simply love it.

I had decided to get myself a new motorcycle about 6 weeks prior and I went through the process of looking at every street bike from a Moto Guzzi and a Triumph to a Harley. I was really considering a BMW or the Honda, my last bike was a Honda, when I happened upon the FJR and it was love at first site, just needed to try one out to seal the deal.

It was kind of weird because I did most of my research on the internet and the FJR wasn't even showing up because the pages were defaulting to '06 models and there's no listing for a '06 FJR and then I noticed I could change the year and there it was, and I was pretty much sold after checking it out. The next problem was finding one and no one had one and I wanted the ABS version to make things worse. Somehow the manager at Fun Bike Center in San Diego was able to get one shipped over and now it's mine.

I've been pretty busy finishing up this summer college course so I haven't been able to take it anywhere far, but it loves everything I've I thrown at it so far which has been for daily commuting. Hugs the corners as good as anything I've ridden and the power is simply insane. Still haven't put the bags on it and I'm picking up the Yamaha top box for it today after work. I'm not too thrilled about drilling holes into it, but I'll get over it I guess.

Anyway, I take the final for that summer class on Friday so I’m hoping to take up to Julian or Borrego on Saturday. Staying under 5000 rpm that first 600 miles is pretty rough.

Peace.

Welcome to the forum getsum. I seem to be the one to usually say this, but the manual specifies not to exceed 5k rpms for "extended" periods... so let it rip occasionally.

Welcome Getsum, don't sweat the hole drilling, just take your time and you'll do fine. JB

I did the motoman and nearly soiled my pants on the new bike!! :p

I did a cross between Motoman and what the manual states. 3 weeks later and 3700+ miles and she's running like a banshee. :D

All she needs is a throttle body sync, she trembles a bit @ 4200.

Since you bought the Yammy topbox I guess you are commited.

Anyway I have had it for a year and a half now without any problems.

When you drill, don't worry. Take your time, mark it out and either use a unibit or drill in stages. Tap or punch the drill spot and start with a small bit. Work your way up. Be careful when you drill through the tail piece. Have the seats off.

When you are done, finish the hole with a grooved rubber grommet.

You can get them at auto part stores.

I found mine at a UAP/NAPA store. Fit the hole snug and the mounts fit snugly in the hole in the grommet.

Thanks for the comments guys. The grommet is a great idea and I'll see if we have any around my work today. I work at a shipyard in San Diego so we might have some, if not I'll head to the parts store. You’re the 3rd person I've heard that recommended using a unibit. I don't have much experience with drilling thin plastics and that's why I was hesitant.

I did pick up the top box last night and it’s a perfect match with the rest of the bike. I’m going try to get it mounted this weekend.

Thanks again.
