PM me if you want a hi-res version of something.
Thanks for the great shots Brad, you da man. :clapping:

True confession time - I need names and forum handles for the two couples on this ride. I apologize but I'm old and have CRSS. I also need to know who was wearing the green fluorescent jacket so I can correctly identify who is in the photo / video.

I think I have the killer video coming out, it's looking really good so far <tease> and will post to Vimeo as soon as I have the info....

:p

Hang in there, the video is taking much time - but I think many will appreciate it when completed. I do this for my life chronicles, and love to share with my FJR peeps.

Brad, very nice work indeed! Great composition on every one! Alas, the Mrs. was looking over my shoulder and said "gee that's a pretty place, too bad we couldn't go this year" :glare: Oh well, living vicariously through all youz guyz great pics and videos helps a bit to ease the disappointment of not making this trek.

So they got the dates wrong. In spite of the b.s. ticket, the blowout, and having to cut my planned extended trip short, it was good times. At least I found a front tire and a shop to mount it on a Saturday evening in Pahrump, Nevada. Not much to add to the pictures, but a couple of inside peeks at the true nature of some of these guys.

Like FJRob, searching in vain for wildflowers

Despite everything, the Death Valley authorities awarded OM his own sign, which he guarded jealously for the rest of the trip.

Seriously, on the most desolate and wind-swept piece of land since Cary Grant was strafed by that crop duster in "North by Northwest," I was so grateful to have Phil and Charlene ("WeLuvBikn") hang with me and keep the lines of communication open with their cell phone for about two and a half hours while we waited for a tow truck that had to be dispatched all the way from Pahrump, about 120 miles away. THANK YOU! You guys are the BEST!

She was so cool! The way she put up with us was great!

I can't wait to see the rest.

Thanks for the great shots Brad, you da man. :clapping:
Damn right! Beautiful images, Brad! Wow!

You really should do more of this. ;)

I'd love to see more pics of your "mountain route" to the event. And to hear the details.

And did you get any pics of the Mono Lake overlook? I'm guessing it was a wondrous spectacle in winter.

...Hang in there, the video is taking much time - ...
Not gettin' any younger here, Don. :D Quit screwing around with work, and other responsibilities.

Me and MadMike are dying to see all the happenings.

...i have my standards.
I'da NEVER guessed.

...Really. :D

So that means there is still hope for Barb??????
Richard.

Get a grip.

...I was so grateful to have Phil and Charlene ("WeLuvBikn")... THANK YOU! You guys are the BEST!...
Charlene and Phil are indeed a special pair. Charming, good-natured, warm, and adventurous.

Great seeing you guys, and looking forward to the next time.

And snakebitten SacMike, I'm glad to hear you survived another "adventure".

Will you be rescheduling your trip?

A BS ticket is any ticket *I* get. A perfectly valid ticket is any ticket *you* get!

Final video codec running now... :yahoo:

Excellent definition, Mr. Carver!

What's a "b.s. ticket"? B)
If it's what I think it is...lots more should be written on this Forum.

:D
I provided a place for the details here. :)
Well, OK. I'll just put it here, since we're talking about it here. As a cautionary tale. Don't let THIS happen to YOU:

So we're in Death Valley. Long, open, empty roads. Limitless visibility. Riding back to Stovepipe Wells alone after a side trip up an interesting-looking canyon. Minding the speed limit very carefully--65. No more tickets for me, boy. I fell in behind an older couple in a minivan, just watching the scenery and taking it easy, almost there. Warm afternoon, helmet visor raised.

Finally, a series of cars in line began to pass from ahead. Interesting effect, Im thinking. The note of the wind seemed to change with every passing car, sort of a short, high-pitched whining whistle-y note as each goes by. I was thinking about things like ships' bow-waves and the Doppler effect, idly curious why the wind note seemed to change in pitch only when these cars went whooshing past. Some combination of the wind off the passing cars and the configuration of my helmet, windshield, and raised visor? But wait, that last car in the line--he's pulls to the side of the road just ahead of me. Why, way out here, would he do that? If we were in Yellowstone, maybe there'd be a bear by the roadside. No bears here.

Then, another possible explanation comes to me as a sudden inspiration. Looked down at the mirror. Oh shit. Big white SUV. Flashing red and blue lights. I was hearing the reflection of his puny-assed little SIREN! Where the hell did HE come from? Signalled and pulled over, and so did the minivan in front. THE COP GOES ON PAST. Whew! Thought I'd had it.

So a few more miles. I'm beginning to anticipate that cold Sierra Nevada Ale. Another glance down shows another white NPS Ranger SUV coming up fast, lights also flashing. This time I slow down and put on the right blinker, moving to the right. Oh, oh. He's moving to the right and slowing down too. F**K. The other guy ahead of me also stops and gets out. Cop tells him "Get back in your vehicle and drive on, sir. I want to talk to the guy on the bike." What the hell did I do that HE didn't, I wonder?

After a few guessing games about why he happened to stop me, I tell him if it's about my not moving over for the other guy right away, I never heard him, and I did stop the second I became aware of him. He'd been called out by the first one and apparently ordered to ticket me. Period. Said the first guy claimed he'd followed me for "at least a mile or two" before I moved over. (In other words, he had no damn idea how long he'd followed me.) Oh, and I'd been "hugging the white line." From my own side of it, of course. What the hell?

I told him about the wind noise. I told him I couldn't believe the guy had followed me as long as he said. I certainly wasn't trying to evade the guy. "Well, sir, you understand in the State of California you are required to pull to the side and allow an emergency vehicle displaying a solid or flashing red light to pass." Yes, I was. I didn't see the guy. Immediately. "Well, sir, there's nothing I can do," says he. Really? No discretion? Got your orders, I guess. Please understand, I'm being respectful. He's being a prick.

Being a federal matter ("The United States of America vs. Sacramento Mike"), I can get a change of venue to the local federal court, at least. Won't have to go back to Death Valley to appeal it. I'll give it a shot. Need a lawyer. Somebody PM me with a good one? Damn.
