At 44, I've never been accused of being mature. My friends and family are looking forward to the day I start acting my age. Until then, the 600RR stays in the garage to keep the FJR company.

44 here. I love my FJR but the truth is I'd still be riding the VFR I just sold if it didn't hurt so damn much! With my hip/back problems I just couldn't ride it 25,000 miles/yr without a lot of pain plus its too fun to ride toooo fast.

The FJR is and old man's sportbike but then again the CBR's and GSXRs of today are not really practical for any rider on the street unless your 5'5" and 120lbs. Then again I've had 2 1800 Goldwings so I still consider the FJR a great all day sportbike!

We all get old(er) and have to make changes but the FJR is still an amazingly fun/good looking performing bike when you consider alot of similar aged riders are riding chrome mobiles.

Anyone want to run a group buy on Poli-Grip and Depends?

I can't believe that I'm a member of a forum with all these old f&^*% on it .....

Geeezzzzz..........

What dear? did I take my what? ... pills? ahhh....... I don't remember.

I gotta go - the shuffleboard tournament is going to start right after my nap.

Almost 49.

Bought my first bike at the ripe old age of 13. My first FJR and bike #38 (not counting dirt bikes). My youngest son told me that it was a geezer sportbike until he rode it..... I think he secretly wants one........

I have to admit not too many squids run out and buy an FJR for their first bike.
Ok, it's firmly established, then, that we are a bunch of comfort seeking geezers. :dribble: That's one side of the coin. The other is that any 18 year old can see that the FJR just ain't gonna make it when it comes to sport-bike duty... both from the impress the young ladies aspect and the performance aspect. There's a lot more to performance than acceleration. :derisive:

What's that? Whatcyha say? I can't hear you ........
If you'll take a look at the link below- you'll see that FJR riders are, by and large, ahhh...... not REALLY old.... and we still attract chicks (at least TurboDave does) .......

And if anyone says I'm an old fart, I'll come over there and kick your A*%, just as soon as I can get up out of this chair and find my cane.

Durn whippersnappers......

DV Ride

I think it's about disposable income and time to enjoy.
+1 KD!! my vintage is 1941 and I am still plagued with the same afflection I was born with, that is being a "Chick Magnet"!! and riding since 1955.

My vintage is 1942. I feel the same way about chicks. BUT I know there will come a day when we all will have to give up chicks and go to a pullet!

Superman, Exacto mundo, well said ++, pullets are just around the next curve, I'm sure!!

Well, I'm 52, but far from mature. Just ask my wife. ;)

Ditto that here........just turned 51, but feel and act in my 30's.......maybe younger at times..............and the FJR only makes the clock go back........................................ :yahoo:

Holy crap! I'm 34 and not the youngest person here! I was starting to wonder....

I tend to agree with the theory that the price tends to skew the demographic older. In fact, when I called dealers looking for my bike, one dealer said "Let me guess ... you'll be paying cash for the bike." It totally caught me off guard and he explained that, in his experience, most FJR buyers were older, married and tended to have higher incomes ... and they were patient enough to wait for their bikes to be ordered, etc. Although I had the resources to pay cash and am married, I wouldn't say that I'm Donald Trump nor am I long in the tooth. I like to buck the trend ... just not in a Goldwing sort of way! Not that there's anything wrong with that....

59 on the 27th of this month, started riding in 1965. I've owned many bikes, the last 2 were honda VFR'S, the FJR is the best bike to date.

Is it a generalization to say that the majority of FJR riders have acquired many miles in the seat and in life. It just struck me after looking at pictures I have taken with other FJR riders. I have to admit not too many squids run out and buy an FJR for their first bike. Maybe it's an aquired taste. I'm 63 and after riding mostly sport bikes I find sitting behind the windscreen of the FJR a good fit. Any youngish riders on the FJR?

Good Gereralization. I'm 64 and I'm on a Valk and an ST1100. Soon to be on an FJR or the new Concours 1400.

But please do not discourage the squids from getting an FJR as a first bike. We "elderly" guys and gals then get a great change to buy a almost new FJr from one of those squids when they figure out that the saddle bags are not for them. The Generation X people will sell a $14K bike they owe $13.5K on for 10K just to get what they want.

I asked my 25 year olds son why his friend sold his car for 3K less than his loan to get a car he really wanted. My son's answer-----"Welcome to Genreation X"

Keep the young squids buying new FJRs. Maybe there is a very good deal out there for us "wiser" ie:eek:ld

I gotta ask. 253 posts (as of writing this) and you aren't sure if you want to buy an FJR? Huh?
GOOD QUESTION!! The check was in the mail. Then Kaw. announced the new Concours! I had a ZX1100 and loved it. SooooI'm waiting.

Right now I'm still plodding along with the ST1100.

The new questions is: In the end, will I be
sterb249.gif
or
smileSN.gif
on this site?

Will I be a fellow

or just another
whacky039.gif
?

I guess that is up to me. BUT, no matter what the outcome, I will always

all of you!

45 here. Finally got old enougn and smart enough to decide it was OK to have fun and be comfortable too.

Daily commuter here in Houston.

You, sir, sound like my kind of guy! I have been in the insurance and investment business for 40+ years. If your saving 25% of your income (and you have a good income) you will be set for life at age 55. RETIRE THEN!!! I retired at 55. Best thing I ever did. Put a lot of that 25% in Roth IRA"s and self direct it!
And as far as SS goes. Some form of it will be around when you retire. Don't worry. (I'll be dead then, so I don't really care) but make sure you keep up your payments, at least for the next 19 years! That's just about the time you should be rich and retiring, and if my plan goes right, I'll be broke and dying.

I also hope I owe the Tax man about a Mill.

I couldn't talk you into paying for my funeral then, could I??

I'll have to pass on paying for your funeral. I have two others to pay for instead. My parents. I love them both very much, but they didn't do much to take care of themselves in their "Golden Years" They both will hit 60 this year, and they still have too much debt to pay off. I guess that will be where my retirement moneys goes to. I'm not complaining about it. It just sucks to know what's really down the road.

Bless you my son!

For you will care for your parents! (and your kids should return the favor, should that be necessary) You will also find you will have plenty of funds to have a very happy retirement! From what I have heard from you as to your finances. Your going to be the one out of 1000 with all the cash you need!

Believe me, if your really doing what you say you are. At 55 you will be set for life! And a damn good life too!

"Life begins at 55"!

JUST LOOK AT THIS SITE THREAD! WE ARE UP TO 6 PAGES OF POSTS AND WE (OLD FARTS) STILL GOING STRONG!

The older gentlemen and women on this site have shown the have a great capacity to go the distance. AND remember:

"WHEN YOUR OVER THE HILL, YOU PICK UP SPEED!"

58 and still getting out to the skateparks as well.

Although it looks like my butt got a lot bigger, I thought it was just my leathers that shrunk.

Might I be the youngest at 28? The fact is the FJR is THE best all around motorcycle around. It has the performance potential that will suprise alot of 600's, and the 2-up capacity I need for the wife. And it's still a cool looking bike. :clapping: I've always been wise beyond my years.

I have yet to cross over to the back 9 of life, but the big 40 is coming soon.

But damn, there are a bunch of old farts on this board and on this bike.

I don't think price is the issue as much as "it" comes with bags :) Insurance on it will always be cheaper than most of the sport bikes that the younger generation cherishes. They too would buy FJR's that's what Rossi rode :)

And in it's category it's a flat out bargain.
