I wish I had the stuff to install my windshield before the ride to Maupin on Saturday. lol Is there anyone leaving from the Portland area on Saturday morning.
Carl
Carl,

Although you are 1/2 my age, I won't go twice as fast.

I'm leaving Saturday morning. My planned route is:

2MaupinFossil.jpg

Let me know if you want to come along. The bail out point if it is raining too much is Maupin either before or after Shaniko.
That sounds like a good plan. Are you staying the night in Maupin? We can meet at the "Culpepers" parking lot at the Troutdale exit at around 9 am? I am open for ideas, just let me know.

Carl

It's a drag, but I'm gonna have to cancel out! Got clobbered by an early season Flu Bug of some type last night and feel like a warmed over dog turd at the moment, & while I might feel better by Sat a.m. it still mightn't be a wise choice, plus a chunk of change if I default inside of 24hrs. So, have a blast, & maybe next time...

Get well Moose. Catch you next time.

See the rest of you in Maupin. Enjoy the ride there; I will!!!

See you there.

I just called the resturant and told them to expect 15+ for dinner and somewhere around 6-7 pm. Hope it works out for the rest of you. I will be there rain or shine cause it may be the last one for this year.

Were coming rain or shine. THe route will differ if raining, we will do more slab time and less tight twisties.

All,

As much as I'd enjoy seeing everyone in Maupin tomorrow and Sunday, it's not going to happen. I wrenched my right shoulder last Saturday in a household mishap and have limited use of my right arm. Piloting a bike is not a particularly good idea right now, especially under the influence of various meds.

Everyone ride safe, have a good time and have a beer for me!!

Marty

Jump in the cage and come have dinner with us if nothing else. What is wrong with riding on drugs ??? I did it all the time in the 60's.

Ok, Mr. Marty... so you're bailing off the ride... that's ok... but Inquiring minds want to know...

Just *what* did you do to damage your wing?

1. Fall off the riding lawn mower?

2. Get bucked off while having.... ( )

3. Slipped in the bathroom after a nice bath with Mr. Bubbles?

You guys have a great ride - sorry I can't be there. I really wish I was.

Just got home a little bit ago. It took just a hair under 1.5 hours. We had rain from The Dalles most of the way home. I had a great time, and glad to meet all of you. Wish I could have stayed.

Carl & Jonnie & the "Beat up Bike" lol

Think step ladder and hornets. It started out as a window washing "honey do". While I was doing that task, I thought, "well, while I'm up here I might as well clean out this gutter". I get up on the top rung and start to clean it when I hear an odd noise. Looking to my right, I notice a fully inhabited hornet's nest about 4" or 5" across not a foot from my right ear (I need to have a word with the good folks from Barrier Pest Control...). Being somewhat allergic to bees, wasps and hornets, I thought I'd just get down off the ladder and go get a can of spray. No sooner had I gelled that thought when sure enough 2 or 3 of those little *******s decided to check out the stupid man on the ladder. Long story short, I waved an arm, lost my balance, realized I was going to fall right on top of the outdoor grill, grabbed the gutter with too much momentum already in progress and wrenched my right arm backward to the sound of a nice, loud "pop!" Amazingly, I didn't rip the gutter off the eves. Good times. Not.

(And as an aside, it's pretty difficult to get bucked off when you're the one getting ridden..!) ;)

Home safe and sound. Right at 980 miles over the three days sampling some nice twisty Oregon roads. Weather wasn't that great. Rained Friday going down, drizzled Saturday on the Fossil loop and then Sunday was a typical PNW day...Rain, sunbreaks, rinse and repeat. Cold coming back over the passes, temps were down to the high 30's...Brrrr.

It was great seeing old friends and making new ones. Sitting around the fire was a special treat, I know Barry and I were having the same bad thoughts. Thanks to AuburnFJR for leading the spirited ride back north. :yahoo:

I'll post a couple pics once I get them to photobucket. Didn't take many, Panman was the official photographer this trip.

Good riding with y'all, lets do this again.

Home safe and sound too.

As soon as I split with you FJR guys to head out west, I got hit with the rain, fog, everything I'd come to know and love from the Friday night ride in. By know and love, I really mean loathe and despise. I swear you guys took the good weather with you. St. Helens was a waste of time due to cloud cover, although riding to Cougar was an experience and a half. They're really not joking when they say watch out for rocks.

Many thanks especially to the patience of everyone when the sole Suzuki amongst them broke, especially Dave for helping smooth out the inside of the throttle after the heated grips malfunctioned. It's not every day that you get to see your throttle burn, melt and later stick in the wide open position. I'm still wondering if one of you guys might have messed with it just for Yamaha bragging rights :) ... Jokes aside, as I said to Dave, I've done a lot of group rides with a lot of different riders, and excluding rides with Dad, this was by far the best ride I'd done, both for route taken and the people I ride with.

As a side note, my sig has been updated appropriately too.

Got back to Vancouver around 3:30PM, so I stopped at ProCaliber Sports to order some screws for the Windscreen that I had over tightened and broke on Friday night installing the Vstream. Also had them install a new Pilot Road 2 rear.

After having to repair the flat tire at the Motel last night in the dark, and being into the wear bars for 600 miles, I thought it was time for my 10th rear tire. (1-ME4, 1-Avon Azaro, 3-ME880, 2-Pilot Roads, 1-MEZ6, 1-Avon Storm and 80,400m)

Had a great time and some really fun riding. First on Saturday with Carl and his wife Jonnie (n2osx) going to Fossil from Maupin. The road was dry and newly paved (chip sealed). Most likely where I picked up the rock that punchured the tire.

Then today riding the Glenwood-Goldendale Hwy. Again dry and fast. Bryan, (AuburnFJR) is a good leader, good fast pace.

Good to see old friends and met new ones. Good idea Marty, sorry you couldn't make it. Pictures to follow:

Hey all,

Some of the photos are hosted on my photobucket. Using the lovely internet connection we have at work I uploaded a significant number of them to my Box account (high quality images).

Box.net instructions:

Go here

Select the folder "20081003"

If you don't see a thumbnail view like you would in My Computer, click "Change view" in the top right. Click any image to view that image, and use the big blue buttons at the bottom to download them.

Some photos (more later):

Glenwood and 142 were a lot of fun. I must admit the 39 degree rain around Rainer was brutal, but meeting fifteen new friends made it bearable.
