Good to hear they will continue the PR2's. I really hope the will continue the 190/55-17. That is a great fit and puts the speedo in corrected mode.
Art, how long have you been running the 190/55 rear tire?

Are there any fitment issues/considerations, i.e. any mods required due to clearance issues?

Is there any noticeable/significant handling difference?

Great news on the PR2s. My favorite tire to date. I have two pair on the rack and just installed a set on my Beemer. Guess I won't have to be quite the hoarder any more.

When it's "tire time", I run a simple price search for:

Ebay

Amazon

Jake Wilson

Motorcycle Superstore

Chaparral Racing

Southwest Moto

Sport Bike Tire

Cheapest price (including shipping) wins. If I'm buying a set (happens every third time as I burn 3 rears for 2 fronts), I'm not afraid to split the purchase.

I've always worn out fronts faster than rears. Seems to be the case with the originals on my 2014 as well. Is it normal on an FJR to wear a rear out before the front?

Many of comments on this through many of threads (here n elsewhere).

Most common symptom of this (if air pressure is up on both) is braking in the corner or turn vs. braking prior to the turn-in. Braking in the turn puts a lot of weight on the front that adds a lot of friction (and wear).

Heavy rear wear; the majority for this is hard acceleration. But, ya gotta do what makes you smile too. Always a trade off it seems

With the PR2's I wear the front & back out pretty evenly. Last spring I put on a set of Bridgestone T30 GT's, the rear lasted 3800 miles, the front probably had a few thousand miles left.

I love the PR2 also, but the wet surface performance of the 3 & 4 is phenomenal. I just have to get used to the whine from the siping on the front tire.

How is front tire wear on the PR4 vs the PR2. I really liked the PR2 tire durability and it's reasonably priced. I did not like the triangle shape that it wore into.

JamesK, The 190/55 requires no mods. There is sufficient clearance all around. As far as handling, you may find the bike will fall into turns a bit easier. Another significant advantage is getting the Genll bike up on the center stand with less effort. It will put your speedo closer to actual speed.

Concerning the question on which tire. front or rear wears out first, I believe that is almost completely dependent on riding style and tire pressure. I have found PR2's wear almost evenly front and rear for me. I do not generally break approaching or in turns. I downshift prior to turn and roll on throttle thru the turn. I am not interested in trying to do wheelies, therefore I start off with reasonable acceleration. I run 39psi front and 42psi rear. Never ride two up and avoid riding in rain if possible. I suppose I am the exception!!!

Great news!

PR2 rear = good (maybe even great!)

PR2 front - not so much. It is what is responsible for complaints of mid to high tire mileage change for the worse in handling.

PR2 is my favorite rear tire ever (to date) and I will go back to that well when my OEM 'stone wears out.

But there are many other front tires out there that will do better at a similar price point.

I have never worn a front tire out before a rear. But I only get around 9k miles from a good dual compound rear tire and maybe 11-13k from a good dual compound front

As always with tahrs, YMMV.

I'm pretty sure my rear rubs off from over use of my wrist.

I'll let you fine people interpret that any way you want.

I never noticed a CT designation when purchasing previous sets. Are the PR2 and PR2 CT the same tire?

I dunno, Art. I mostly ride dry, 2 lane twisty roads, and that pretty well describes my riding technique, exact tire pressures and PR2 wear experience, too. I used to ride two up a lot (no longer) and might be a little harder on the throttle, so the middle of the rear may wear out a couple tanks of gas sooner than the front, but not enough to hold off changing the front. The relatively even wear is one of the reasons I love PR2s by the set.
