I have an FJR with 104,000 kms and have a inconsistant vibration through the pegs at 70 to 80kmh a bit like a car or truck tyre out of round its a rooom rooom sensation rather than constant vibration in 5th gear only

I checked the uni joint at the back of the gearbox and its fine but theres side play with the shaft going into the gearbox , probanly means a collapsed middle gear bearing no 20 in the yamaha parts list

can this be fixed in the bike or does the whole engine assembly need to be removed out of the frame

That's been covered on this Forum in the past, pretty sure? (not very recently, tho...)

IIRC, the engine needed to be moved forward (about the same work as removing)?

I asked a question this spring about removing the middle gear shaft to install some new ring and seals...as I had leakage just forward of the U-joint.

FJRay mentioned in that thread that the gear couldn't be removed without moving the engine due to the length of the shaft or sumpin'...
