Throttle side:

I decided (since the drill bit was shot) to try another method to the throttle side. I left the bracket holes untouched and used a "Offset" method. I have also seen this method used on

the forum. I searched for something in the garage that I could use. An IBA backing plate was considered, but I was fearful of the repercussion that might follow. I settled for an old license

plate that came off the Dakar from the previous owner. I used some cardboard as a template and cut out a section that would give me plenty of coverage. I then hammered it flat and

filed the edges. Marked the hole placement for the bolts and drilled them (As accurate as possible)

I now had a offset crush washer! I wanted to eliminate as much vibration as I could, but had no flat rubber sitting around. I used silicone to fill the hollow area between the mirror base

and the washer plate. Put a little silicone on the faring mount position also. I will replace the silicone with rubber once I am able to acquire it.

Now to see which side holds up better.

Where did you get that aux light bracket? Why the need to modify the original parts?

BTW- the bracket is the Clearwater Bracket (Modified to reduce vibration)

I guess I don't get it either. Are you trying to thin out the shoulders so the bolts go farther through and you get more bolt for the nut to hold on to??

That's the only thing I can figure, except I've never heard that the OEM mirror mount bolts are too short. The FZ1 mirrors are shorter though.

Either way, I don't see how any of this will prevent sub frame breakage any more than a standard 3 minute mounting job.

The added weight of the lights and brackets would magnify any vibration causing the mount failure he described in part one..

Remember Carvers fiasco with his?? I think Tony's on the right path here, but what do I know?

I have some 1/8 thick rubber that I use on the floorboards. PM with with a rough size and I will send you a couple of pieces.

By the looks of it, your tube of silicone sealant is over the hill. Probably won't cure properly!
