I've got a sticky string in the back tire of my Garden Tractor for well over 10 years now. This 12psi pressure tire is filled with 6 gallons of windshield washer fluid (adds weight that won't freeze for better traction) and absolutely no leakage.
But this is a FJR forum and I can report running rear tires down past the wear bars with a plug in with no problems. My last rear I just replaced a couple months ago also had a plug in the rear for many thousands of miles and started a slow leak when it got to the wear bars - so it was time to change anyway.
