I won't lie about this and I am not even ashamed. I am very jealous of Beemerdons having both the FJR and the K1600. I am sure if I had to I could be happy with the Kawasaki or the Triumph. But...I don't have to. For the money, the FJR is just very hard to beat.
Right you are Redfish Hunter: For the money, the FJR absolutely cannot be beat! That's why so many in my AZ Beemers Club own the FJR as their second or third bike: Papa Chuy, Back Road Bob, Russ Locke and many others; the FJR is still one of the very best values in sport touring motorcycles bar none!

Ah yes my friend for the money. What if money were not a factor? Unfortunately I have a wife, therefore I have no money. If there were money I would own several different motorcycles and some of them would have that blue and white roundel. As it is Mrs. Redfish has the keys to the 4 wheeled BMW and I have the payment book. No two wheeled BMWs live here. Dammit.

I also read the Motorcyclist article, and I think they did a very good job of being objective. I thought all pro's and con's on the bikes were honest and not biased. One can use the information on this article to pick the feature one values most and make a choice. For me, that's still the FJR as I find it the best looking bike of the lot, an outstanding performer, and the best bang for the buck.
Update: I used to have a BMW R1150 RT and a K1200RS, I joined the I-BMW forum and I continue to visit there. This article on Motorcyclist is not mentioned there at all, curious, no?
I heard they ban you on that BMW Forum if you knock the bike at all, awfull sensetive arn't they?
I don't think so, they complaint about BMW just like all other forums complaint about other manufacturers. But I will say, no complain will go without a challenge.

Somethings up with your dealer then. I just did a ebay search for 1600GT, 5 came up... all are demo models by different dealers. Not one private seller which only tells me one thing and is relative to my BMW forums. I have a friend looking for a GT and he thinks he will save loads by buying one used. He's having a tough time at least finding a "deal" and the far majority of owners will not give up their bike.

Sorry to steer my reply towards purchasing and price differences between the models; it was addressing the other post more-so than yours.
Have your friend look at the K1600forum.com there's a few very low miles ones listed there.. there's one with 300 miles, a 2013 model..

I had one and I don't anymore... care to guess why?

(poor reliability...)
I'm a member of that forum and know all about them; back to the point and as referenced earlier a few hundred off retail is nothing, my friend wants a deal and nobody is lighting up any thing on these. Maybe a lemon like what you supposedly had but generally I find personal peeps (not dealer demos) just aren't selling w any deals. 'nuff said

WOW! you can't be serious with this statement (I hope!) plus 3 misspelled words in a row; your kinda tipping my hat ;)

Seriously, they ***** more than anybody about their bike and on that site.

And can you blame them? Hey, when you spend that kind of money (and your dealing with some stuff-shirts as well ;) heck, if they see a fly land on their bike when it's being delivered they want to know why the dealer let that happen! We have small details with our bikes we let go with a shrug, no no no, not them. They catch and openly talk (*****) about any detail and all are not little minor ones either... i.e. like some have experienced drive lash while the majority have not. Hey, if mine had this problem and I knew others didn't I'd be right there bitching too! It's as open as it gets and they knock whatever the hell they want including the K1600.

Trust me, you haven't seen sticky-picky on this site compared to there. Those guys (generally) are annul-battracus!

In comes Dr. Fred to make us smile

I think that maybe you are confusing the words "inane" and "ironic."

in·ane
/iˈnān/
Adjective
Silly; stupid; not significant.

Synonyms
vacuous - empty - senseless - blank - foolish - vacant

i·ron·ic

/īˈränik/
Adjective
  1. Using or characterized by irony.
  2. Happening in the opposite way to what is expected, thus typically causing wry amusement.
Synonyms
ironical - derisive - quizzical

Yep, my post was ironic. Yours may have been inane, or a typo.

why is bra singular and panties plural?

now that's inane

well, this thread is going to hell

and once again, Fred is validated

No, that's a hell of a good question. One that men have pondered long hours over.

Meh. This thread is located in an area of the forum where off-topic posting would be tolerated, if not encouraged, especially as the thread is approaching the end of its useful life.

I mean, how much more can we rehash the opinions of a handful of paid moto-journalists, the majority of whom say how much they love the FJR but then announce the "winner" is the uber-bucks Bavarian Meathead Wagon, and how that position validates (or invalidates) our previous choice in a motorcycle?

Since you mentioned spelling...

You're using the wrong "your". "You're" is a contraction of the two words "you" and "are". "Your" is a possessive meaning of or relating to you or yourself.

Now we are drifting way the hell off...

Fred, I focused on the word "silly" in the definition of inane. It happened to be the very last word in the definition of inane according to the Merriam-Webster's Home and Office Edition. I chose that one because it sounded much more cheerful than: empty, insubstantial, or shallow. Silly makes me think of happy things and sounds cheerful. The other words in the definition sound more like an insult. Since I am always! cheerful and happy,
no.gif
and I honestly meant no insult, I gave it a shot. I hope that recent discussions have not robbed you of your sense of humor. Of course, my timing may have been a little bad...

The more I think about the article, the more angry I get. Triumph stated from the beginning that they targeted the new Trophy directly at BMW's R1200RT. Triumph said that from their comparisons the BMW was the finest Sport Tourer on the market today. But we never get that comparo, this is kind of an apples to oranges to filet mignon comparison. With the price differences it is all too obvious that all of these bikes are not aimed at the same buyer. I suppose that I should be happy I had something to read that had motorcycle content and pretty pictures.

I have to give BMW credit for doing something that is very difficult and rare in the motorcycle world. The Hayabusa did it for many years, the GoldWing has done it for many years, there are only a few others. BMW has created a "Class of One" with their big 6 cylinder.

Last fall I was in a local BMW chain facility (Max BMW, North Hampton NH) and I was amazed at the number of used K1600s that they had in inventory. I've never seen so many essentially new motorcycles being sold through 3 dealerships. Whazzup with dat? Last Sept/Oct they had >20 used k1600s in stock. Looking at the stickers on these bikes the asking price was hardly depreciated. I would have been shocked to be told that they sold that many K16's but to have that many return to the nest in less than a year defies understanding. What have you guys that drank the Kool-Aid and hang around the BMW Forums heard, or is this news to you?
BMW uses their bikes as demo models frequently so I wonder if that's the reason they are on the floor being sold as used.

Check it out yourself.

MAX BMW Inventory

In their 3 store inventory they have 29 brand new K1600's in stock. And they have 12 used K1600's, none of which have more than 10k miles on them.
You are right, Iris. When you click on the listings, about half of these low mileage bikes are listed as a prior "demo" That's a lot of demos. ;) They must take them in from other dealerships too.

Been thinking this way as well. BMW is one of the very few powersport co's that encourage you to take a demo ride. My first Beemer demo ride was almost a 3 hr. tour, I will always remember it however... friggen awesome!
