Been thinking this way as well. BMW is one of the very few powersport co's that encourage you to take a demo ride. My first Beemer demo ride was almost a 3 hr. tour, I will always remember it however... friggen awesome!
".....A THREE HOUR TOUR!"

Not to worry Brother KJ, Hans und Dieter have been duly notified at BMW Berlin Command Operations Bunker. Lufthansa Flight #691 touches down in Orlando at 0545 hours, Hans und Dieter only have to stop at a Greyhound locker to pick up a Schmeisser Machine Pistol and a Walthers P-38: This pestilence will then be eliminated. Jawohl Arnie, es geht mir Gut! (this also translates as "jes' sayin' and nuff' said!")

KJ: My Wonderful and Lovely Miss Donna has a very warm belly, after 7 years of dating this dirty, rotten, old Irishman she is finally moving in with me on May 1!

I Love My Gal!

I also feel sorry for Miss Donna. Did her house burn down? Perhaps we could take up a collection for her so she will not be forced to stoop so low...

Just kidding, Congratulations Don.

Don,
Sorry to hear Donna is going blind.
Steve-O, luckily Donna is also hard of hearing. I don't know what it is about we Irishmen, whenever Old Michael and Papa Chuy are at an FJR Forum event with our Amigo Tuscon Joe: Jose always turns his hearing aids off! jes' sayin' and nuff' said!

But then on the "Off the Record" page 2 of the 4 journalists chose the FJR??? Editor in Chief Marc Cook said that other than the FJR's overly soft suspension and silly 82 mph cruise limit, the FJR was hard to fault.

I for one am glad I chose th FJR!

She must know what she's getting into by now... Congrats Don :)

Bringing her to CFR?

...Bringing her to CFR?
Beemer normally brings his son to these events. It's handy that they have family in the general area so it's two birds...
Actually, Alan and KJ: Stanley Family, complete with Monkhouse Family, is coming to CFR. Donna, Donna's Granddaughter Rhianna (13), Son Seth (16) and Chuy will all be at Huntsville!

And she'll probably move out a week later. At least if she has half a brain she will.

BMW uses their bikes as demo models frequently so I wonder if that's the reason they are on the floor being sold as used.

I had narrowed my search to the R1200RT and the FJR. My "local" BMW dealer (50 miles away in Thousand Oaks) sent me out on a clean used 2008 RT for a 30mi test ride. I enjoyed the ride immensely, but my biggest hang-ups were: 1) when I put my feet down, the bodywork around the cylinder heads hit my shins; 2) the mirror position integrated into the fairing made the mirrors essential useless - not good for someone who was nearly killed in a rear-end collision last summer; 3) I found the boxer to be amazingly balanced handling-wise (like a low center of gravity gyro) but a bit noisy and vibration-prone. On the contrary, the short ride I had on a 2012 FJR instantly reassured me with the gobs of power (more than I'll ever need but always nice to have) and super smooth response. No knock on the dealership - the people there were AWESOME and very helpful. If I buy a beemer someday (those K1600s sure look SWEET!) I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them.

Ah yes my friend for the money. What if money were not a factor? Unfortunately I have a wife, therefore I have no money. If there were money I would own several different motorcycles and some of them would have that blue and white roundel. As it is Mrs. Redfish has the keys to the 4 wheeled BMW and I have the payment book. No two wheeled BMWs live here. Dammit.
Ultimately, the choice for me came down to the following:

1) ride experience: FJR

2) price: FJR

3) predicted reliability: FJR

4) dealer network/parts/etc: FJR

Money wasn't a complete factor as I had the $ and the blessing from my wife to go ahead and get a 2013. I ended up getting an '08 w/ under 15K for 1/2 of what I would've spent on the 2013 and I couldn't be happier.

Oh, I wouldn't blame her if she stayed.

She might be a damsel hitting hard times and needs a place to stay...there would certainly have to be a good reason.

j/k Don...congrats on the moving in. Now that you won't be riding your bikes that much with taking care of the new missus...can I have one of your bikes? I'll take your 2013 FJR if you don't mind. I'll be sure to lend it back to you when you get enough time to ride it...

Nice Try Buckwheat, however Donna loves to ride: So we will probably be riding more than ever! She is going to FODS, Fairlaner's Get Together, FJRay's Reuben Run and the Tuscany Scooter Tour!

The FJR is an all-around perfect bike for me, and I will never want or need any other bike. That said, I am jealous of the BMW's adaptive headlight, and not because I think it would be particularly useful but only because of the GWF (Gee Whiz Factor).

Oh--and I'd like a 6th gear.
