After sandwiches, you'll need drinks. My high school classmate and her husband opened this place nearby. It's worth a stop for adult beverages.https://www.thegetawaytampabay.com/No, I can't get you free drinks. :D
That might be true but, I'll bet I can score some browny points by telling them that JASON told me to stop by and say, Hi!

Nah, I don't know any of the cute bartenders there, sadly.

Ok, boys! I am finally on a tow truck heading to MacDill AFB. 4 hours on the side of the road with nowhere to go. In the sun. No water. I will have a shop that's 23 miles away look at it tomorrow. I'm 200 miles from home so, I'm stuck I'll keep you posted.
Once you cool off and take a shower, you could "get the map, get the map, "and go Mount Dora!
Actually, Cav. Mt Dora is an absolutely gorgeous little town with a picture postcard Main Street and it's a very hilly area. Yeah, there are some of those in central Florida. Next time I pass through, I'll take some pictures.

Mt. Dora's not so bad; I used to live close to their when I was a child (in Tavares) before we abandoned FL for CO. I remember there being a great pizza shop...probably gone though. There's a nice little gun shop there that I'd drive down from NC to visit every once in awhile while tending to my father's property in Leesburg.

Sucks about your bike Vic; hopefully, your mech will get to the bottom of it quickly.

I think the relay Mcatrophy is talking about is # 25 on the parts fiche. Part number 5VK-81950-30-00. You can get to it with out taking the cowling apart. It hangs form a rubber mount. However, others who have had problems with this relay have displayed other symptoms such as the neutral light coming on dimly while operating in gear, stumbling at operating speed, and chattering of the relay. I experienced that with my '07. The fuel pump power does go through this relay. I guess it is a possible source of your problem, but I would add that it is powered from the ignition switch.

Vic,Check out post #14 in this thread. Mcatrophy posted a nice schematic of that relay and it's connections.
Thanks, Bob but, I'm not quite sure how long you've been a member of this forum but, I have on many occasions made it perfectly clear that I'm a mechanical genius. As far as the world of electrons go, I'm a complete *****! And damn proud of it.

Surely you can waggle its wires and/or hit tap it with a hammer?

My Master tool box consists of about a couple hundred hammers in all sorts of sizes.

First your TomTom, and now this! It's been a rough few days for you.

Myself, started feeling bad Sunday, and have missed work the last 2 days. Riding in the Devil's breath Saturday, wasn't good for either of us. :swoon:

Yep! The heat was brutal. Can't wait til September!

Hey Vic, sorry to hear of the bike problem. Hoping it's a relatively easy fix, could be the fuel pump?

Got the bike home a couple hours ago. Top notch tow by the way 227 miles to the house. I had time to fiddle around and do a lot of the recommended things that were suggested. Initially, I turned the ignition key many, many times and absolute nothing happened. Finally it caught and started right up in a second and ran like silk. It ran for a long time, enough time that I could've gone for a nice ride if I wanted to. Same exact symptoms from my two previous ignition switches before they died. At this point I'm putting my money on the switch. About $1 lol. I'll take it to the shop and tell them to start with the switch just like the last one and I was right. I'll keep y'all posted. :)

Is this a re-designed ignition switch, the one with the yellow tag attached to its harness near the connectors?Brodie

🤔
Brodie, my original switch died just before I found out about this Forum. Thank Goodness that it was at the end of my street. They replaced it with a "new" one like you discribed. It went a long way but, it died mid flight too running around my neighborhood. This is my third one and all the symptoms were the same. Stick the key in turn and nothing. Kept turning and turning until it caught. It's the same scenario for all three. No symptoms of anything else going bad with the bike whats so ever. I guess these switches aren't going to last forever. If in fact it's the switch, I might go ahead and get a spare one for the next time it happens. I'll just have to look up the procedure to replace them. Like I said, I'm NOT an electrician by any stretch of the imagination but, once I know what needs to be replaced, a skilled mechanic can replace it with ease. Fingers crossed!!

When they fit the switch, make sure the wires going to it aren't too tight. There have been problems with the wires being so tight they've separated from the switch. Probably unlikely in your case because you've already had replacements, but I thought I'd mention it.

Reported way back here.

Running all the current thru the switch [old or new ] is a stupid design...As detailed elsewhere on the forum, I ran the heavy brown and red wires to a 75 amp Bosch relay and use the switch to activate the relay and the two small low current wires...
