...except to the east.

Money and circumstances limit my Eastern travel currently. Trust me, I wish I could make it anywhere near the smokies, blue ridge, etc. Maybe another EOM...
I'm just razzin' ya, but had hoped to meet you (in person) at NAFO.

Believe me, I know from whence you speak. Things are increasingly tight around here too.

NAFO will be the one absolute can't miss event this year. Other plans may need to be "adjusted" to fit available funding. :glare:

I think that would be 2012, wouldn't it?
Thank you Fred, you're exactly right: NAFO is indeed every 2 years. Maybe Geezer, dcarver and I'll do a reconnoiter of Lake Atlin for CA Planning Committe in 2011!
Anywhere in BC would be fine for me. If I get that close to Alaska, I would have to cross the border and wander around some. My goal is to get all the way to Prudhoe bay, but it will depend on how much time I have.

Greg Buddy, count me in! Enjoyed riding with you at WFO in Moscow, would also enjoy touring Alaska with you! We will talk more in New York, before we ride to CFR!

This is starting to really piss me off. :dribble: Don't you want anyone to attend NAFO2010? Or are you planning a cozy little east coast thing for yourselves? We all just can't take off when we want, we need to notify those who sign our checks that we won't be around for a couple of weeks. Am I wrong in thinking that the location and timing should be completed by now. Just let me know now to "just piss off" and I'll plan on going somewhere else. But since I did attend the first one ever, attending the second would be a nice little follow up. But I won't be able to, not if this drags on much longer. :glare:

NM,

I can't speak for the organizers. But I have heard of (and am planning on) it being approximately the 3rd weekend in September as EOM had generally been in the past. I know that may not be specific enough for some folks scheduling, but for lack of any concrete dates at least that gives you a general idea.

Geezer,

If you are going to go on to Prudhoe Bay find yourself an old bike as it is a nasty road the last couple of hundred miles.

Just my .02

Mac

Thanks. By the time I actually get this done the bike I have will be old. I expect to break the 100k mile mark this year. I'm not concerned about scratches and such, as long as the bike is capable of doing the job without stranding me.

Thanks for the info Fred. It looks like my string will be broken at 1 NAFO. There is a SWOG on the same weekend, and the Land of Enchantment 1000 rally on the first of Oct.

MEMO to the EOG. Thanks for nothing!

I won't make it either. Was looking forward to it, but too late for schedule planning now.

Crud! :angry2: If it's mid to late Sept. I'll be in school for Falcon 900EX Easy Type Rating. Looks like I better start making plans for something else.

I saw a post somewhere that indicates it is likely to be the last weekend of September, one week later than the normal date for EOM. Nothing finalized yet.

I had it called to my attention that there was an FJR meet already planned for the 3rd weekend of September, original dates NAFO2010 was to be planned. Also, the venues that we've been inquiring with have local college level football games going on nearby that usually have the nearby hotels booked that particular weekend (3rd in September). Jay & I are looking at the last weekend of that month for NAFO purposes. September 24, 25 & 26.

Sorry for any inconvenience folks

Any hint as to where these booked hotels may be located? Maybe I missed it in a former post?

I am glad I was able to attend the NAFO 2008 all the way from Flori-duh. But what made it extra special for me was the excellent COLORADO SS1K that Georg Z put together.

Well, we now have the Twisty Butt Association and TBA 500 ride specs. Since everyone agrees that NAFO and other FJR gatherings should be in places with plenty of twisties it would be logical and great to plan a TBA 500 ride during any of these gatherings.

The AR TBA 500 route is already available, and the EOM folks are working on a route covering that neck of the woods, so where's the problem?

Hey James, I appreciate your forward thinking but the problem would be that the TBA is (so far) in the SFO home area and we are very excited to have this event as part of SFO. So yeah, it would not be ok for EOM to come to AR and try to do this, since that is SFO's future plan. I'm sure EOM has their own awesome plans and doesn't need/has no intention of horking ours. We'd love to see you at SFO again this year James.

I had no idea until I started doing SFO that some folks out there would need 9-12 months notice to get time off from their jobs. I had never heard of that before. I'm sure the EOM folks are doing the best they can, but given the fact that they can't promise a certain number, it becomes difficult for the hotel to analyze what is actually needed vs what can be guaranteed. And hotels are always looking for that. They want a promise. They want their money. And bottom line, NAFO is still a bit of a risky venture. I say that because I know how many dropped out of the first NAFO at the last minute and Tim was pretty surprised by it. I'm assuming EOM wants to do the best they can and do right by the hotel too and all y'all peeps too and that is a tricky balance. So give them some space yo. This is not their day job. :)

+1 Good post, chik.

I'm pretty sure that what James meant to suggest was that the EOM folks could work up a TBA500 route somewhere near the venue in the east, not all the way over in AR.
