Steve O "Jorstin" and I've been mailing each other regarding our NAFO/CFR and Alaska trip in 2012 with our Sons Justin and Seth. We're currently in the midst of Phoenix's Hell Days: 30 straight days of 101+ degrees with 45 more straight 101+ Fahrenheit degree days predicted. So, since it's too damn hot to ride, I've put together a riding schedule for the Jortstins and the Stanleys. If anyone wants to join us coming or going to Castlegar, British Columbia and Hyder, Alaska: Welcome Aboard!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello Steve O,

As you know, I share Custody of Seth with his Mom Jean. Our AZ Court Child Custodial Agreement allows us each a two week vacation with Seth, at this point in time I only have those two weeks with Seth for our Alaska and NAFO/CFR trip.

So, I've put together a proposal for a Run to Hyder, Alaska, including our four day stay at NAFO/CFR for your perusal.

IF, Jean allows me 3-weeks with Son Seth, I'll put together a trip including sailing from Skagway, AK to Bellingham, WA

Very best regards,

Don and Seth Stanley

SETH AND DADDY DON RIDE NAFO AND ALASKA 2012

July 29, 2011

Tuesday, June 19; Chandler, AZ to Cedar City, UT; meet up with Steve and Justin Jorstin.

Wednesday, June 20: Cedar City to Idaho Falls, ID.

Thursday, June 21: Arrival in Castlegar, British Columbia, Canada for NAFO/CFR 2012.

Friday, June 22: NAFO/CFR.

Saturday, June 23: NAFO/CFR.

Sunday, June 24: Castlegar to Clearwater, BC; on the Yellowhead South Highway.

Monday, June 25: Clearwater to Kitwanga, BC; on the Yellowhead Highway.

Tuesday, June 26: Kitwanga to Hyder, Alaska; on the Cassiar Highway.

Wednesday, June 27: Hyder to Prince Rupert, BC.

Thursday, June 28: Sail aboard BC Ferries to Port Hardy on Vancouver Island; The Jorstins and The Stanleys will reserve a stateroom; if we want to nap or have some privacy; this is a 12 hour passage.

Friday, June 29: Today may be a “lay-day” or “catch-up” day, this all depends on the 2012 BC Ferries Sailing Schedule. The Prince Rupert to Port Hardy Southbound ferry sails only on alternate days.

If the ferry sails on Thursday, 6/28 we'll use our layday/catchup day somewhere on Vancouver Island.

As a suggestion, if Miss Barb is back from NAFO/CFR, we can grab lodgings in Campbell River, BC.

If the ferry sails Friday, 6/29 our layday/catchup day will be spent in Prince Rupert fishing/kayaking.

Saturday, June 30: Night spent in Victoria, BC; somewhere close to the Black Ball Ferry docks.

Sunday, July 1: Sail on the first ferry to Port Angeles, Washington; make Redding, California.

Monday, July 2: Redding to Orange, CA; Stanley's stay at Aunties House; Jorstins go to San Diego.

Tuesday, July 3: Seth and Daddy Don depart Orange at 0400, back in Chandler at 1000 hours.

Fourth of July 2012: Seth is back with his Mom Jean for the Holiday.

FJRGuy, MEM, yamafitter, barb, FJRob1300, RaYzerman19 and all of the rest of you Canuckistanis: We Stanley Boys have got to get something off of our chest, eh:

Every damn CFR you Hosers promise Seth and Chuy that we'll see polar bears; and every damn year we don't see them! There better be polar bears at NAFO 2012, eh!

I'm assuming because you posted a picture your talking about real Polar Bears, not the big hairy kind you find in some bars. Not that theirs anything wrong with that.

Ya know, theirs Polar Bears in just about every zoo in North America Don. The only place your likely to see one in its native habitat, short of going to the arctic is in Churchill Manitoba

This has been on our long range plans since the rumor first leaked at NAFO II. Going to include this into a 2 week (at least) loop and try and hit some of the national parks.

Old Michael: Brother, back in Spring of 2009 before Seth and I rode to CFR Nakusp I had asked you about Canadians, since you were born and raised in Manitoba.

I remember one of the Words of Wisdom you told me about Frostbacks was that the way to tell if a Canuck was fibbing to you was to see if their lips were moving!

For 3 straight CFR's, Nakusp-2009/Mont Tremblant-2010/Fredericton-2011, these lying Bogstomper Canuckistanis have been telling me "this one" is a polar bear!

And this is wrong how??

Damn, this place is really hoppin' tonight.

Aaaaanyway, polar bears aside,

this pic of Rob is really a very excellent snapshot, don't ya think?

  • The amber evening sunlight casting a warm glow on the scene.
  • The lush, green foliage creating a restful backdrop.
  • The Heinies in the foreground, nestled in the GIVI rack orifice.
  • Those beautiful FJRs, (probably having shredded the local byways all day) now "at rest", ...but still menacing.
  • And finally.......Rob, his chiseled features silhouetted against the ..............I'm losing it. Gotta stop.

Who took the pic, Don?

Just got back from the State Fair and I'm reading through the forum.....

.......Now I have to TRY and get some sleep tonight......

To sleep, perchance to dream..... :dribble:

Ray e-mailed me with some preliminary plans that include trailering across the flat boring bits until we start hitting into the bumps around Calgary. Jeff will be too busy with the rally to notice my rig parked in his driveway for a few weeks while we go play in the mountains. After CFR / NAFO I'm still deciding between seeing a good friend up in Hazelton and then getting Hyderized or pointing the FJR south for a servicing at GP Suspensions and then heading to Northern Cali followed by a loop back up along the Divide. There is also the ADV Rider D2D at Dawson City, Yukon around that time. Might be able to work that in. Decisions, decisions.....

https://www.viarail.ca/en?aven Yo Canuckians, I am just thinking out loud here (I know, that is way fecking dangerous!). Have you Hosers ever considered using ViaRail to ship your bikes from the East to the West for NAFO / CFR 2012? When BMW Motorcycle Owners of America Club have had their Annual International Rallies in the West, Spokane, WA and Redmond, OR, some of the Eastern BMW Clubs have banded together and used both ViaRail and Amtrak to ship the bikes coming and going; and also just one way, for the riders that wanted to ride at least one of the legs. Knowing you Bogstompers, you McKenzie's would probably even hire strippers for this!

I have seen the pictures of these Rally Trains and have spoken to BMW people who have participated: And everybody had a freaking blast! Drinking, singing BMW fraternal German Army marching songs, drinking, playing cards, drinking, fun conversations and there was even some drinking involved on the BMW Rally Trains.

I know that the Frostbacks had their train originate in Toronto and go all the way to Vancouver; then from there they rode their Beemers to either Spokane or Redmond.

Los Americanos had two AMTRAK trains tied together. The first train originated in Washington, D.C. and traveled to Chicago. At Chicago, the D.C. train was coupled on to a larger train. 300 BMW Riders, pillions included, and 200 BMW Bikes rolled non-stop to either Spokane or Seattle, Washington. https://www.amtrak.com/

The first Rally Train was such a riot of fun, that at subsequent Western BMW Rallies, Western USA Beemer Folk were riding to Chicago, just to get in on the Big Party.

I read somewhere (It may have been an LSD flashback!) that the Canadian population is 90% concentrated within the first 100 miles of the International Border; and that of that 90%, 75% were living in Ontario or Provinces Eastward of Ontario (Manitoba had 3.5%!). This may make ViaRail an attractive alternative for NAFO / CFR 2012!

https://www.hellobc.com/en-CA/RegionsCities/KootenayRockies.htm?link=kr Here you go, Kiddos! You can order both online and printed travel guides for the Kootenay Rockies here! Very informative website!
Wowser, I received my Kootenay Rockies Travel Package from "Super Natural - British Columbia, and it really is SUPER! 1) Kootenay Rockies Travel Guide 2011 - 52 pages of great information. 2) Bike Vacations - 50 pages oriented towards the bicycling crowd, but loaded with resources for both road and off road motorcyclists. 3) Kootenay Rockies - Circle Routes Map, excellent detail and perfect scale for planning our NAFO / CFR 2012 day rides. 4) Crown of the Continent Map published by National Geographic, featuring Alberta, British Columbia, Montana including Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park. I highly recommend you order up these BC Guides!

Funny thing is, when I sent a request to New Brunswick last year for travel guides, all I got was a refrigerator magnet with "Bogstompers Rule" imprinted on a Canadian Maple Leaf flag!
