Here's the Memorial Day FJR-NERDS '11 update.

We currently have 47 people on 31 bikes saying that they will be attending. Route planning and testing is progressing through the spring and summer and the final; routes will be posted sometime in late July, early August.

But the folks at the Commodores Inn says that they only received have only 20 room reservations out of the 46 rooms we had blocked off. I don't know why that is. Either there are a lot of people planning on camping, or splitting rooms (which did not seem to be the case in the survey we took last fall), either of which is fine. Or else there are a lot of you who are procrastinating in making your reservations?

If it is the latter, I really do not understand that. As is stated on the NERDS web site, the $50 deposit for your room reservation is fully refundable up until 24 hours prior to the event. Because of the low number of reservations, we will be reducing the room block down to 30 rooms. If you plan on attending but have not yet made a reservation, you should do so soon.

And don't forget the July 23rd deadline for ordering tee-shirts and stickers.

One last thing: I have been emailing back to each person that has placed a merchandise order with a confirmation of order received. If you think that you made an order but did not receive a receipt message back from me, please double check your Paypal account to be sure the order went through. If you have any questions about this send me a PM or email.

And... here's a glimpse at the ride routes we have in store.

Click on the picture below for the interactive version.

They still have not been fully tested just yet, but this is a close approximation.

To see individual routes just deselect all the other ones as there is a lot of overlap in the middle near Stowe

The "4 gaps" and "6 gaps" routes look really cool in "terrain" view. ;)

Good looking routes there, Fred.

Never been to the New England states before, beginning to think, shesss, what took YA SO LONG!

Those roads all look a little crooked. Don't they have any straight roads around there? ;)

No, darn it. Those roads go up and down, left and right... How's a fella supposed to wear their tires into a neat square shape?

(PS - I received confirmation the map link works now.)

Guilty, I'll get it done in asap.

Pen me in for the 6 gaps ride!

(If I'm leading, it might turn into the 17 gaps ride).

Oh my! Choices, choices.... I've been on quite a few of them, so I'll probably go for the east and north. No wait.... uh, well, I dunno.......... they're all a blast.

Very cool looking routes... any idea what the mileage on them is?
But of course!! Mapsource knows all, tells all...

The "ride times" listed by mapsource above will be pretty accurate for actual "time in the saddle". Each route will have a suggested (optional) lunch stop and a number of scenic places to stop along the way. We've striven to have routes with varied lengths to accommodate all tastes. So, as an example, if you rolled out of the parking lot at 9AM on Art's Twisty Butt you'd probably not be back 'till ~ 7PM.

NERDS webmaster, FJRed, is working diligently to get the "Routes" page done on the FJR-NERDS website, where you'll be able to read descriptions of and further inspect each route to decide which you'll be interested in riding. The GPS files for all of the routes will be made available for upload there as soon as they have all been tested.

PS - If you haven't done it yet, try installing Google Earth on your PC and then open this link in that application. It's a great (nerdy) way to explore the terrain in advance. :nerd:

Those routes all look interesting. I think I'll consider the Mt. Washington route if the sky is clear one day.

I am thinking of coming along. I’m a new FJR rider/admirer my bike is very new and not farkled out for long trips yet, but ohhh I want to ride.

So how does it go? We meet up at the hotel and split off on different routes and meet back at the hotel later? Picking a new route each day we can attend?

Yeah, that's pretty much it. You can ride a route on your own, or join up with one of he groups and ride one. Many of the groups will be 2-up riders and/or flower sniffing, photo taking, so it's not likely that those will be overly intimidating.

We'll have sign up sheets each nght so you can get in with a group that you think fits with your needs/desires.

But if anyone finds that they are, I would completely encourage them to just drop off the back and ride your own route. Take your own time. Ride your own ride...

There will be several folks new to these big group get togethers. I think this is going to be a total blast!! :yahoo:

Thanks Fred,

I am bring this up to my 2 up tonight. I think she will want to bring her stuff in a car and ride with me threw the day. But, 20 years ago she told me "If we go somewhere and I can't plug in a curling iorn I don't want to go" ...she needs more stuff than I can fit on the bike.....

If not I may ride that weekend solo. I will be signing up soon one way or an other ! If I get my way.

PS

I get my way alot
