I'm seriously thinking about coming over from cape cod for the weekend to meet some of you Yankees and to see the scenery while I'm living up here, but it looks like the hotel is booked (online anyway). Whats the best camping (or other alternative) near to the hotel?

Drew
Call the hotel and tell them that you are with the FJR NERDS. WE still have a few rooms left in the room block.

Any cancellations or rooms left at the Commodore?
Call 'em. They're nice folks at the Commodore.

And do you have to be on an FJR?
No. Last year, in addition to FJRs, we had a BMW GS, a cruiser or two, I think we had a ZX14, and maybe a Versys. I'm pretty sure Petey is gonna be on his Versys (look out for him - he's sneaky) and we're riding with a friend of mine who rides a Buell.

I'm booked at the Commodore :D

I can't stay Sat nite because my g/f says my ass has to be back on Seneca Lake for the Dickie Betts wine fest concert. Oh well, so I booked Weds 15th to Fri 17th (have to leave Saturday morning). I talked w Jessica at the Commodore, very nice & friendly, she said it was the last room unless cancellations popup. Since I can't stay Sat nite I guess my room will be available for any transients.

There may be a few cancellations as some folks are talking about switching to "pitching tents" and such. Seriously.
Jeff (FJRPitt) is bringing his wifey so I think he's play'n with nerds words.
So you mean that she will be the one pitching the tents?

(actually some other folks are talking about saving some cash by camping)

I just posted up in the Official NERDS -12 Announcement thread that the ride routes have been updated one last final time. Linky

No, he will be pitching the tent but it may be because of her wearing some Victoria Secrets way late in their room! (or early, or both lmao!)

Camping is cool too. I got a 35' 5th wheel but it is not a toy hauler so that's out for me :(

Getting closer to being ready to go. Thanks to Woovis, we put a fresh PR2 out back last night. Now I've just got a couple of odds and ends to take care of and the bike will be ready to roll!

I hope, for their sakes, that either the weather forecast clears up or they like camping in a wet tent.

I have a dartboard that produces more accurate forecasts than the typical 7 day 'cast in any part of the northeast.

You got that right, weather in N.E. changes faster than I can change my socks!

Optimistic weather Gods needed!

Still early to predict I guess but so far WC has this not so good of news...

You need to learn how to interpret weather forecasts for Northern New England. That is actually an excellent weather forecast for any time in August. Every warm and sunny summer day there will be a chance of pop-up afternoon thunderstorms. The words that key you in that this isn't a serious weather system are: "scattered" and "isolated" (the latter is very good).

When it says that there is a 60% chance of isolated Thundershowers, that means 60% chance that somewhere in the region may get a thundershower, not a 60% chance that it will rain where you will be. Wednesday's forecast is actually the worst outlook. Showers are typically more widespread and steadier. Perfect for the Tech Day at Ed's but hopefully it'll clear out for our Cook Out. But it's still too far away to be fully credible.

In all of the years that us New Englanders have been doing organized events where we draw people from outside the NE area, we have only had one Sunday morning where the weather was a deterrent to an enjoyable ride. We have gone down south where we got hosed for the ride down, the whole time we were there and the ride back home. It is highly unlikely that that would happen in NE during August (the date selection may be related to that ;) ). I'll bring my rain liners but I don't expect a wash-out at all.
