Although I wouldn't be at all surprised by a taxation like this in our wonderfull state, I was going to ask for a reference and did a Google search. The answer acually came up on my Snoops link on my Yahoo home page. This is the third time the Snoops link has addressed a urban myth the day after it showed up here, this is just the first time I pointed it out first.

Dammit Rogue, you're too fast for me. After some EXTENSIVE searching I came up with nothing and headed to Snopes just as you posted this. Thanks for the debunking info.

DUI = JAIL (Stays on your driving record for 10 years!)
Too bad this one is not true! So since it isn't can we shoot them?? :trinibob: :elf:

...I love Snopes

...motorcycles are allowed in the carpool lane with only one person on board.

Crazy how the carpool lane fine is higher than driving on the shoulder, which for obvious reasons, is dangerous.

you might want to pass this along to people who might not know : )

New Driving Fines for 2007

1. Carpool lane - 1st time $1068.50 starting 7 /1/07 (The $271 posted

on the highway is old). Don't do it again because 2nd time is going to be

double. 3rd time triple, and 4th time license suspended.

2. Incorrect lane change - $380. Don't cross the lane on solid lines or intersections.

3. Block intersection - $485

4. Driving on the shoulder - $450

5. Cell phone use in the construction zone. - Double fine as of 07/01/07.

Cell phone use must be "hands free" while driving.

6. Passengers over 18 not in their seatbelts - both passengers and drivers get tickets

7. Speeders can only drive 3 miles above the limit.

8. DUI = JAIL (Stays on your driving record for 10 years!)

9. As of 07/01/07 cell phone use must be "hands free" while drivi

Ticket is $285. They will be looking for this like crazy - easy money for police department.

This is all b.s.

Fines are not going up like this.

#6 has been in effect for several years ,if the officer decides to cite both.

#7 1 mph over the speed limit could earn you a citation. Never sen it, but this 3 mph is just made up.

#8 been like that for several years now. Used to be 7 years.

#9 cell phone law takes effect Juoy 1, 2008 and is around $50.00 if I remember correctly.

This is one of those urban myths that got started.
