OMG! And you didn't stop to get a hotel! Just kidding Alan... please don't be offended.Well, ya know, it was 38° F here in NH when we left for WV, and it was getting back down to that point on our return trip. The temps were like that for several hundred miles.
Heidi,OMG! And you didn't stop to get a hotel! Just kidding Alan... please don't be offended.Well, ya know, it was 38° F here in NH when we left for WV, and it was getting back down to that point on our return trip. The temps were like that for several hundred miles.
But seriously folks, in the past I have heard a lot of bitching about all kinds of things EOM related. Have any of these bitching folk stepped up to plan one of these events like they'd like to see it done?
I wasn't complaining or bitching. Heidi said that it was too hot to ride in August, I pointed out that it is pretty cold to ride out of New England in September. It's easier to pack for heat than cold, especially when two up.Well, ya know, it was 38° F here in NH when we left for WV, and it was getting back down to that point on our return trip. The temps were like that for several hundred miles.Yes, & then it would only be horrible until us southern folk are several hundred miles away from our southerly homes...A late August EOM would work if it were held in a more northern location.
When it's hot all the time, everyplace, all you need to worry about bringing is rain gear. When you set out at low temperatures you have to bring all your cold gear. When riding one up that isn't so bad, but two up it puts a real premium on luggage space.
Perhaps we should go leaf peeping in October? How many folks would be for that? Ahhh, leaf peeping the Cherohala Skyway would definitely be my idea of fun.
Alan, it isn't always too hot in the southern states to go riding in August. Very often though, the humidity is absolutely stifling.
Ask OhioFJR1300... him & his wife came here this past August on their Goldwing. I warned them!
I appreciate the back up, but I also recognize that you can't please everyone. For the record, though, it's easier for me -- and I assume others who teach -- to do October than September. Things are a little less hectic. I mean, I've done the Void in October the last three years with no more trouble than anyone else who works. The flip side is that October is riskier weatherwise. I've ridden in VA in October and had to scrape ice off my windshield in the morning. Brrr.Leaf peeping wouldn't help the teachers. I happen to thing that the mid September time frame is perfect, but I'd also like it to be available for everyone. The only way to resolve the teachers needs would be to pull it in to summer.
Not that this is what I want mind you, just an observation.
I was thinking a little south of there in West Virginia. Been there once, need to go back.Maybe us Nor'easterners should just pick up the idea of doing a gig on our side of the Mason-Dixon in the summer...
I like the way you think, Art!Apparently EOM is in Sept. I was there and I got some complaints. The weather was too perfect. The hotel sucked because they had a nice parking lot and they let people drink in the parking lot. And the roads, I swear I saw a piece of gravel somewhere. And my plate wasn't big enough.
Seriously, all I had to do was show up and drink beer and ride the FJR. I really appreciate all's efforts.
EOM is in Sept but eOM can be in August. Even 10 people going to Lewisburg to ride would be a good time. I doesn't have to be as planned as EOM. It can be a get together. And e2OM can be anytime someone wants to ride in WV. There is nothing better then riding the roads in WV. I have become a big fan.
Post something up and see what happens.
