2nd owner. I have put about 2k mi. on the bike since I got it last month. Now at 15k mi. I am installing a PCIII and figured I'd swap the plugs out at the same time.

Went to buy plugs yesterday (CR8EIX). Kragen $13 :uhuh: (WTf), Autozone & Pepboys; $8, but could not order them.

So, I go online; Jegs & NGK.com have them for $8. Question is, do I need 'indexing washers' as well?

You definitely do NOT need indexing washers. In fact most people that use indexing washers don't need them either.

In the hottest of the hot rod world you would use indexing washers to orient the ground electrode tab so that the incoming fuel mixture has a straight shot at an un-shrouded plug center electrode. This allegedly will produce a measurable amount of horsepower. It may also make a difference that the hot rodders have eight or more cylinders instead of our puny 4. I have never seen it mention that the indexing washers cause the plug tip to sit higher in the combustion chamber. Dunno what affect this would have on the dynamics in the combustion chamber.

Go to Advance Auto Parts and order their part# 4218. It will pull up 3-4 matching parts, one of which is the NGK CR8EIX spark plug. I believe their current cost is roughly $4 each.

That was said kinda casually rhetorical like.

Since RH is answering, I will also include that the ever so tiny bit shorter plug will run roughly 1/8 to 1/4 a heat range cooler. Squish and turbulence will change too. If we had access to the FJR's spark timing it should allow a tiny bit more advanced spark timing.

I bought mine from Advance. They were $29.34 (includes 5% VA Tax) for the four of them. Advance doesn't normally stock them, however, I was assured they could get them by 8AM the next morning. They met that deadline and I was a happy camper.

For the anti-ridium crowd, I tried the bike shop first..., apparently  my FJR doesn't require $10 plugs and that I could get the standard CR8's for $6/ea.

What's up with that?

A few months ago, I called my local Carquest looking for the Iridiums. They didn't have them but could order them in. I moved on to Kragen / (now O'Reilly). Guy said no but gave me the same response about ordering. I said I had the sled apart and was really hoping to do the install today. He told me to call a few other parts shops and then said he had a bunch on speed dial and would do it for me. I heard him make the calls while the receiver was on the counter. No one else had them. Needless to say, I was impressed with his attitude and hard work over a few spark plugs so he got my order. I picked them up the next afternoon and was surprised at how cheap they were at a little less than $4 per copy. Sounds like things have changed in hurry!

Better brush up on reading comprehension if you intend to survive here. j/k :)

I never said anything about going online and ordering. I said "Go to Advance Auto Parts and order...".

My local Advance Auto STORE has become so accustomed to me buying CR8EIX plugs, several other NGK plugs, and sending others to do the same, that they are now stocking the #4218 and selling them for $4, $6,... Hell, I don't remember the exact price, but I do remember it's competitive.

Advance has a strange system in thier online system that if the part does not match the car you are ordering for, it won't let you order it (and it seems to allow only 1 car, and no motorcycles). Called them directly and they hooked me up with the part, free shipping and 15% off my order...now that's service...

direct link to Advance Iridium plug @ $6.99 ea. here

No worries mang. I will have my mechanic hook me up, I should hear from him today if he can order them. Otherwise I'll use the linky the previous member posted (thanks mang) and will ship them to my house. :yahoo:

Cool stuff, InonBeams,

Where's the bowing (I am not worthy) emoticon? Any rocket surgeon that knows about the effects of the indexed spacer thingies on the irriddlemeems is tops in my book. And he has a smart talking pet bird as a pillion in his avatar, probably gives him a lot of ideas whilst on the road. Thank you sir for what you do! :good:

Mechanic couldnt get them. Local high end hot rod shop could not get them.

I decided to support my local shop for these. $11 each. :angry2:

Should be here this week.

NEXT TIME THOUGH.....Imma order these in bulk and get enough for 2 more sets.

I hope these things are THAT good.
