I understand that for the 2016 models Yamaha is eliminating a washer of any sort and calling for the non thread plug to be welded in place. This will entail all changes being made at a Yamaha Service Center at a cost of about $600... plus Yamaha fluids.
But at least no one will have to worry about over torquing the drain plug...

My Honda lawn mower has NO drain plug. I asked why and was told so you are forced to pump the oil out and into a recycle container.

My daughter's Honda lawn mower has to be turned nearly upside down to drain the oil. There is actually a channel for the oil to flow along the deck to a small drain hole. Always makes a mess.

Jet skis have needed pumps to remove oil for years. I don't know if any of them have a drain plug. Mine doesn't, at least not one I can access with the motor in the hull. Oil pumps are not a new concept.

NAPA has both copper and aluminium washers in 14mm. They are much cheaper than factory which should run about $1.25 if they are not highly escalated by the parts computer.

You can say that again!

I use Honda aluminum washers...... less than $0.50 either at your Honda car/bike dealer or CycleMax Ohio..... look for pack of 10 for Goldwings. Snug up the drain plug to tight (about 22 ft. lbs) and you're good to go. They last forever.
