You guys better be careful with those things. I accidentally got the wires reversed and every time I rode through the woods a herd of deer would chase me down the road!!!! :eek:hno-smiley:
Where they does or bucks? I ask because the fun factor changes depending on their *** when you let the catch up.

:p
Shiny, Shiny, Shiny!

I thought it was just goats with you? :shok:

The SPCA will be settin' up stings on this site before long.

I've hit seven deer in my life, one on a motorcycle. Rest assured, you will never hit the deer you see. Using a deer whistle is just as effective as riding with your pants off. As Casey Stengel used to say, "Look it up."

I've been running one of these for years, it works perfectly, I have never hit a deer since I've been using it. It costs a bit more but offers features beyond deer repellent.

I like the pretty lights too. :p
I also have one of these and have never encountered a deer with it on.
A radar detector, such as the pictured Passport 8500 is a passive RF 'receiver'. It is designed to receive K-band, Ka-band, X-band radar RF fields, and I think this model will also detect Laser wavelengths. Unfortunately, it emits nor transmits any signal at all. It's not a jamming device.

The device in this month's MCN is an af (audio frequency) emitting device, not an rf emitting device. The frequency of the audio is what supposedly alerts and scares away the potential offending deer! :clapping:

Being an avid deer hunter, and also experienced in smacking a couple with my trucks over the years, I can attest to the fact that they are completely and utterly unpredictable. As a bowhunter, I have had the pleasure of watching these critters up close and personal for years, and I continue to be amazed with my lack of ability to predict their next move! Trust me when I tell you that when you see one in the middle of the road, there is no way to make an accurate prediction as to where that animal will go next. Keep your thumb on that horn button at all times in deer territory! That worked well for a friend of mine when he topped a blind hill and just over it stood an ole doe in the middle of his lane. He said it was going to be impossible to miss the deer, so all he could think of was to brake and hit the horn button! It worked for him, in that particular situation.

So keep the 8500 doing what it does best, but don't be lulled into thinking that it provides any kind of protection from anything other than maybe a "bear" (Smokey Bear!).

Hey, seems he's come up with some new tech to help you guys with the burnt wiring harness problem:

The most unique feature of the automotive V series Hornets is that the wiring harness does not carry power.
He notes that it's a pretty good way to avoid short circuits.

;)

Thanks for covering my 6! I believe my reply would have contained as much satire as the original post.

O well, looks like I swallowed the hook on that one! Maybe I'll catch-on one of these days!

But the web site shows adds / articles on CNN and USA Today. It must work!

as recommended by current Motorcycle Consumer News...

IIRC the MCN article also stated that deer are unpredictable, so devices may not help at all. The manufacturer of those devices claim deer will "run to safety". Them stupid animals don't know where safety is, and might just think the other side of the road is the safe place to be!

Best strategy in deer country (especiallly during dawn and dusk, when they're most active) would be to slow down a bit, cover your brakes, and do what you can to minimize impact speed.

(but keep the the satire going, as I'm enjoying it!)
