This is really frustrating. Neither my computer at home, nor my office box will let me in to Quick's links. It tells me that the address cannot be found. I've even tried changing some of the characters in the URL. I don't get it. Anyone else having the same problem? Got any corrective suggestions?

Quick update! Fastfeejer (bart) will not be joining us on this ride. Been trying to get hold of him with no success. I bumped into Jonathon (Bart's bud from the Spring Ramble, for those of you that went) last night at Bike Night...turns out Bart broke is femur in half riding in WV earlier this summer. He's out of commission for quite some time, probably at least until next year.

Let's all wish him a spedy recovery!

WHOA!!! Sorry to hear about that! Tell 'ol Bart we are going to miss him alot.

I suppose that complicates the logistics a little bit for this ride. I'm sure you'll find someone for the "six" and you'll lead?

Have fun all...

and SORRY to hear about Bart's broken femur...

Well Boys and Girls-- I've somewhat scouted the route and found it's too short. I will be augmenting the route slightly with a few sidebars to keep it interesting.

Plan on going further east and further south, ever so slightly. I know, I know..you all want a route. No worries there, I'll have something posted soon enough.

The important part is that you show up, have fun, and be safe.

While I'm not big on "rules", I wanted to post some guidelines to pay attention to for the ride to make it more enjoyable for all. I hate even having to post this, but the last 3 Rambles have taught me a few things. Sorry if I'm insulting anyone's riding intelligence:

1.) Low beams. No need to blind the person in front of you

2.) Make sure the guy behind you knows that you are turning. Stop and wait if you have to. Make sure they see you! The lead rider (me) will not deliberately try to loose anyone. You should do the same.

3.) Other riding friends and pillions are definitely welcome. Now if they are a "cruiser" type rider (ie can't or won't keep up with normal traffic, not related to the bike they are riding), they will not have a good time with the likes of FJR's.

4.) Keep a respectful distance to the rider in front of you. Leave at least 3 or 4 bike lengths for every 30mph.

5.) A loose stagger formation works best. No lane sharing as you'll need the whole lane for curves and to avoid hazards.

6.) Don't leave a *huge* gap in front of you. If you do leave a huge gap, the person behind should pass to keep the group together and to remind the gapper to not do this. If you can't keep up...that's perfectly OK (ie don't kill yourself!). Ride your pace and we'll let you catch up. Guys who pass gappers...make sure you don't loose them! No embarassment here, I think we all want everyone to make it back in one piece!

7.) Do not, repeat, DO NOT stay in the left lane very long when passing. Pass with authority and get back over fast. Otherwise you'll die in this state REAL QUICK! Cars here are OK with this as there are a lot of bikes here!

9.) No waiving to Wings, BMW's, or Harleys. It is only acceptable to wave to other riders wearing full gear with tuning fork logos on the tank only. Maybe a CBR or a Bandit if no one else is looking, but then only if they wave first. Never, ever wave first to them. SV's and Ducati's are strictly off limits. Anyone caught waving to Connies will be required to purchase lunch for his table. You'll need to leave the tip too if are caught waving to a Connie with those ugly sidebags on. Do not under any circumstances wave to trikes or sidecars! You'll be asked to bail from the ride immediately. Exceptions to this rule are pre-1969 classics, Russian or Yugoslavian built bikes, and the Triumph ST. And V-Stroms. And motard bikes. You may freely wave to these bikes and these bikes only, with the exception of the forementioned tuning fork bikes. Just kidding!!!! :D :D

We saw 4 or 5 other FJR's on the last ramble. We all waived B) Sometimes entusiastically!

OK, now that *THAT* is done with, we can ramble on.

I think these should be posted as (loose) rule for EVERY group ride!

Especialy no waving to trikes! :D

Here's another idea. For those of you not familiar with "universal motorcycle hand signals", the following page explains a few. We had to use them a lot at the Gap during the EOM. One not covered is patting the top of your helmet to warn of LEO's.

MC Hand Signals

Here's some signals from the AMA:

AMA MC Hand Signals

And a real nice page of hand signal diagrams:

Willow Creek hand signals

Then, there's the text below describing some signals and ettiquette in group riding:

Since I shortened my NE trip by a week - I will be attending this fun event.(Yea!)

If you don't mind - I will take you up on your generous offer on the other thread to bunk at your place.

As far as the rear shock - if you still are offering to sell it to me - I will gladly take you up on that offer. Maybe I should read my owner's manual and adjust my front springs as well - since the front really wants to dive under braking.

I will stay farther back in the pack this year, as my suspension and skills don't measure up. In any case, I'm looking forward to the great fun and cameraderie - this is my favorite FJR event.

I don't know if onedriver is coming or not - but just in case- since the "rules" this year didn't explicitly forbid it,

CAN HE BRING HIS TRUNK MONKEY?? :haha: :haha:

Looking forward to this great event and thanks in advance for your legwork!

BTW, tell 'ol Bart we're gonna miss him

wheaton,

Glad to read that you can make it! We'll have another good time cutting the twisties and enjoying the scenery...

If you're interested in suspension settings, I'm using the ones from the June '05 Sport Rider. Other than reducing the compression damping a little due to the MI roads, they suit me well.

See ya in southern Ohio!

Put me down as tenative... I won't know for sure until we get closer (Early Oct)
I think Brian will get the LD award if he is able to make it from the land of agazillion lakes/swamps... :D :D

Hope you can make it Brian!

Hehe, yeah, I was just kinda kidding around (although I think they are little strange!).

So I have escapertist and wheaton staying at my place. Any one else need a bunk? Have space for one more on the fold out couch (without that damn bar going down your back) and plenty of floor space if you bring a sleeping bag.

We do have one cat-yes, the cuddly black one- (had to put the other to sleep this summer  ) so any allergic may want to consider this. Oh, and no kids!

Sounds like we'll be setting up Wheatons' suspension Friday night!

Looking forward to the ride!

Can I get a quick headcount? Confirmed and maybe's?

this is my favorite FJR event.

-bvw.

Oh yeah, and by the way... schedule is been cleared. I'll take you up on the offer for lodging, let me know if I need to pack the sleeping bag...

I'll be coming...I'll be there at your place no later than 4pm eastern time...

BTW, Brian, I was not meaning any disrespect to your great work at the CFO...I just like what southern Ohio has to offer, and the great routes that Mike and Bart have provided in the past.

Mike, just kidding about the trunk monkeys of course...I laughed my arse off at your last rule...

That's a confirmed 3 to stay at my place (valetz, escapertist, and Wheaton).

Valetz, I sent you a PM.

Quicksilver...are you in?? It will be a 3 hour jaunt from Indy if you're poking along at 65. I made it from Emmis downtown to my home in 2.25 hours last month. Yep, I was flyin!

FJRDon, are you coming? Post up!

Yep, I plan to be there. I'll probably stay at my son's on Friday night. I'm looking forward to it. I was just "bragging you up"on another post. Hope to see you this Saturday too.

FJRDon

I'm still in. Probably shoot for the super 8 at the lake, if that's still the meeting place.

Might want to come over for the suspension setup Friday evening. Maybe tweak mine at the same time? What's the proposed time for shop class?

Hey, wait a minute....If wheaton is arriving at 4 PM all the beer will be gone before I get there. I guess my arrival time needs to be adjusted. Yo teach, what time does the shop class start?
