Thanks. Moose, my new Choco Lab. I told my wife it'd better get compliments like this for what the sucker costs! yeah, that area seems to have a lot of breeders. Beautiful country.

By the way, I was looking in my AMA Ride Guide last night and found a pretty cool route called Seneca Rocks. It runs through VA and WV for about 224 miles starting from Front Royal round trip though. Don't know if that's a stretch for everyone or not. We could probably scale it down a bit though to meet our needs.

Any interest anyone?

As a mere noobie, I offer my opinion to the esteemed group with humility and humbleness. :winksmiley:

Accepting Skyline as just a relaxing scenic ride, not a white-knuckle burn up, makes it okay for riding. Not great for riding, just okay. It's usually pretty clear of traffic in the morning, with the afternoon having the bulk of sightseers. Deer are always around, but they're out in larger numbers in the early morning (an hour or two after dawn) and late afternoon (an hour or two before sunset). The Rangers--well, it's a crap shoot. Cruising at 40 MPH doesn't seem to provoke them.

For a sub-150 mile day, I'd like to propose a 9:00 departure from the Sheetz at Haymarket, with a second rally point at the Dickey Ridge Visitor Center on Skyline Drive around 10:00 for those who come from points west and north. We could ride Skyline to 211, then 211 toward Luray and perhaps have lunch at the Brookside or somewhere in Luray. Or stay on Skyline to Big Meadows or Skyland and have lunch at either of those spots.

Ride back toward Fairfax on 211 to 522, then some backroad work to The Plains, where folks can decide how they want to head home.

My two cents.

Cafn8d/ALL - I'm cool with anything; just want to get out and ride and like Cafn8d, meet some of the folks I talk with on this forum. If anyone has a problem with just meeting at Sheetz and then playing it from there, speak up. Otherwise, let's just meet there at 9am on the 27th, grumble over some joe for a few mins, then head off. Sound good? :clapping:

Done! Agreed! Good plan!

I'll be at Sheetz, ready to roll after I'm sufficiently....CAFFEINATED! Hah! Get it?! Caffeinated? It's, like, my screen name and license plate and everything? (I crack myself up.)

Sounds good. Some may want to go on a longer ride than others. Shoot, I'm just getting warmed up after 150 miles. A couple of weeks ago I rode to Ocean City, had lunch, turned around and rode back home. 325 miles.

What'd we do on our last ride Jim? Wasn't it something like 450 miles.

Yup, for me I had to ride around the block at the end but it was 450.1 miles for me! Except for the crappy Rt 81 miles, they were mostly prime!

Uh, yeah. We get it. :p (kidding) Actually, it took me a few seconds when I first saw your name, but I figured it out.

Coo then. See everyone at Sheetz!

I'm cool with long rides. But I may bail early if I bring my sweetie along because she's not yet acclimated to 150+ mile days. Regardless, we'd be good up to lunch, I'd think.

Just back from vacation and wanted to make sure the plan is still 0900 at Sheetz.?

For anyone interested, Lorie and I will start our day at the Caribou Coffee joint at 12713 Braemar Village Plz, Bristow, VA around 0800 or so. It's only about 10 - 15 minutes (depending on traffic) from the Sheetz. In fact, it would be a good place to meet. I've been there several times in the morning (weekends) and it isn't crowded - has outdoor seating - and for our purposes unlimited parking. It is on Rt 619 between Lee Highway (28) and Nokesville Rd (Rt 28). It would provide us a place to sit and discuss the day's plans rather than stand around and discuss. If no takers then I/we'll be at Sheetz at 0900.

Question - anyone else, besides cafn8d bringing their wife/girlfriend/pillion of unknown gender?

Jim

Jim, welcome back from vacation. Yea, we're still on for Sunday. I may try to meet you at the coffee joint if I get away in time. If not see you at 0900 at the Sheetz.

I'm game for meeting at Caribou Coffee too. Sheetz is a frickin' zoo, and you're right, we'll be standing around discussing it instead of sipping a nice cuppa joe in comfy chairs.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and recommend we all meet at Caribou instead of Sheetz. Anyone have a prob with this? Kidding :D Say anytime at Caribou between 8 and 9am, departure around 9:30ish?

Umm, guys, I really think you ought to meet at the Sheetz at 9:00 as previously agreed/stated. Unless the information has been changed, thats where it says you will meet on the board calendar. First, the sheetz station is easy to get to from major highways, and second, other riders may also be planning to attend based on the original plan. Oh, and count me in, too! :)
