One piece left over

So I just dug deep and servced all the "Ground Spiders". All of them were perfect by the way. Took them all apart and stuffed them with dilectric grease I use on the spark plugs leads

I also changed the coolant and but only did a single ******** and refilled. I think 3 times would be a a bit anal for me. Ran it till the fans kicked and then topped it up the overflow resevoir when it cooled. The level at the rad cap didn't change.

Since I had the side farings off (for the first time) I installed Stebil horns with an Eastern Beaver harness/relay. That really confused the wife when she picked up the mail. Thought I was buying **** from Japan. "Eastern Beaver", get it? She called me at work as she was afraid to open it.

They are nice and loud for sure.

I wired them off my Blue Sea box under the seat. It was suggested not to do that as if the horns were used in conjunction with another heavy load it might pop the fuse.

I wired the box with #12 wire back to the battery, a 30 amp fuse near the battery, another 15 amp fuse in the Blue Sea for that circuit and the after that another 15 amp fuse in the line to the horns. Sound like overkill but the last one was necessary as it was already in the line and there wasn't enough wire if I cut it out. Can't hurt I guess.

Doubt I'll draw enought to cause problems.

Now when I was all done I had one screw (allen type with the wide head) left over and was missing one of the pop type pins.

Good piece of mind knowing that the spiders were ok as I'm prepping the bike of a 8,000 mile trip to the great west states in June.

Last things are new PR2's and change the brake fluid.

It was nice afternoon getting to know the insides of the FJR.

Losing a "pop-pin" is easy to do. Buying the new one will be fun!

The allen screws are only used in a few areas. IIRC:

1.) Fairing/black dash panels.

2.) Glove box (one on the inside?).

3.) Holding the tool tray under the seat.

Tool tray under the seat has Philips screws. At least my '03 does.

Best place to track down fasteners and where they're used is the Yamaha Parts fiche. Go to Yamaha-motor.com, click on Sport, then click on Parts & Service in the menu ribbon, then click View Parts Catalog on the left. From there you can navigate to the catalog, select motorcycles, you year and model, find the cowling section.

That, or take digital pictures during disassembly.

Just one screw? Man, you are doing way better than me.

I again, just this afternoon, put the gas tank back on and had it all all buttoned up when I found that plastic safety clip that goes on the fuel line laying on the work bench. With out exageration I bet I have done that 15 times. :angry2:

My guess is you forgot to put one of those fasteners in the bottom of the farings. There are two or three down there so just when you think you are done, you are not. Take a look.

I've got a drawer full of extras. I just chalked it up to overengineering. Sides, makes it easier the next time you take it off.
