For the Pacific NW gang I suggest riding down in a group. Meeting place is a little coffee shop at 212 Washington Avenue North, Eatonville Wa. Meeting time is Thursday Zeptember 19th at 7:00am.

Here is the route. If the group gets too large we can break it up in to 4 riders per group. Have a full tank in Eatonville and we can fuel up in Hood River. Lunch in Hood River.

If we have more than one group each group will be independent from the the others. This makes for less stress and we can stop for photo ops and what not.
Is this ride plan still on ? As I was plotting out Ahchiu's route from the last post, I was like "why not ride the back of Mt Hood as well and cut down to meet 97 at Madras rather than Maryvillle" ... which seems like its pretty close to this ..

Your route is going to be a very long day. I did the Randle to Carson portion last week on my Tenere. NF-25 is very rough in sections and after you factor in the dozens of 25 mph blind corners, elevation changes, slow moving traffic, a couple of view points, and the need to get off the bike and take a break and it will probably take you at least 3 hours to go that 80 miles. Its a nice ride when you have lots of time but pretty exhausting when its in the middle of a long ride.
Good point Steve, NF-25 is only part I could pass on, but the roads after to Carson are really nice, I also like coming around Mt Hood.

I am going to retract my lame idea to lead a ride on this route because this route is very rough in sections has dozens of 25 mph blind corners, elevation changes, slow moving traffic, a couple of view points. Further I don't want to be or feel responsible for others I have not road with before on a road with extremely interesting features.

I will take this route and I will be loving (remember the Get Smart TV series from the 1960s?) it because it has dozens of 25 mph blind corners, elevation changes, and a couple of view points. Going down on Thursday so I doubt traffic will be a problem; more likely to hit a deer than find traffic.

I'll follow the F man.

I bet FS25 is about is good as your driveway, no?

The real problem is I ride so slow others will be bored following me. Just ask others who have road with me - oh I forgot they passed me long ago.

Further complicating matters, at least from a quick ride perspective, is I will be two up. Keep track of hoards riding along FS25 and FS90 was an idea born out of winter dull drums and not grounded on reality or clarity of purpose. (read after a couple of drinks.)

Thanks for the discussion, guys. What I'm thinking of now is to take it easy over 2 days - get down to Carson on Wednesday, spend the night there and then continue to La Pine on Thursday. That splits up a 400 mile run into 2 sets of 200 ... much more "do-able" for little ole me. My limit tends to be about 300 miles after which it stops being fun.

Hopefully traffic will be light on a wed / thur after school has started.

For anybody interested, my group (group of 6) will be leaving Sandy,OR about 1:30 on Friday 9/20 and this is the route that we are taking. If you want to tag along, just let me know.

Ok, we all know that I use the term "friends" pretty loosely, but there is no need to call me on it. What I meant by "friends" = " I overheard some people that happen to be going that way and I will be following them at a 'safe' distance to protect the integrity of the restraining order." I figured that it meant close enough to the same thing?

Eh., I tend to avoid I-5 unless time is really expedient. More likely to avoid AM traffic I will head out the valley to I-90 to Yakima, down to Goldendale and 97 it to La Pine with maybe a few side loops depending on daylight hours and weather. Usually hit Perkins in Ellensburg for breakfast, pit stop at the chevron and McD in Goldendale and then whatever. 97 is a good revenue source for Or. so a sharp eye and the detector keep one on their toes, especially if one is in a hurry.

Jr.

I plan on doing some DAM Tour pick ups north of Wenatchee, Tumwater Canyon and Alkali Lake Dams, on Wednesday then spending the night in Ellensburg. Meet me for breakfast and we can ride to La Pine. Note, will have to get off of 97 to take 197 through The Dalles, then Maupin to Shaniko to Antelope then back on 97 to finish the ride. Adds about 15 miles.

Ken, I'm not able to leave until Friday Morning. Sounds like you are heading down Thurs. Damm Job.

Don' date=' did you notice that the cover story for this month's Friction Zone (Sept. 2013) was written by our very own James Burleigh/Hans Gude?
And if I'm not mistaken, the cover photo is one of his as well.[/quote']

Thanks for pointing this out Old Michael, nice to see a Fellow FJR Rider as an Author in a well known Motorcycle Magazine! Nice work, HansG/JB!

Ah shucks. Thank you, BD! Yes, the cover photo is mine as well, of the incredible Sargent Eddie Chan of the San Jose PD. The cover is here. The article is available as a pdf here. (But I have to say, the editor sanitized my original copy to the point that, apart from the facts, I hardly recognize that I wrote it. Oh well: $500 is $500!

). BTW, the editor of Friction Zone magazine rides an '05 FJR.

In other news, last night I had a nice dinner in San Mateo with Fairlaner and Tyler, who told me to check out this thread....
