Several have asked, so its time to start the fun!

Basic Outline:

Leave Sacramento on Tues, Aug. 2.

Day 1: Ride 80 to Donner, 89 through Lassen, on to Shasta and ??

Day 2: Crater Lake, Mt. Hood, down the Columbia to ??

Day 3: Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Ranier (and around Mt. Olympus is off the itinerary).

Lotsa riding, lotsa scenery, lotsa photo ops, lotsa great people last year and I expect the same this year. I am not "booking" ahead as last year. I think the freedom to stop earlier, ride longer or modify the plan enroute is more appealing.

I have a draft I've sent those who've already been emailing me, so if you're interested, message me with your email address and I'll send you off a more detailed description (That is still subject to change!).

6/19. I've been informed by 2 PNW riders that Mt. Olympus on Day 3 is too optimistic, so that is off the plan. Still lots of sgreat scenery and fantastic roads suggested by them.

The list:

MM2

Rogerfaster

Turbodave

Bluestreek

Skyway

TrottlejockeyTJ (Day 3)

Dudewado (Day 3)

FJRoamer (Day 3)

Jerry from Petaluma

50GTT

EWBill

Dan from Fairfield (Day 1 and Crater Lake)

?

7/4: As with all our rides, anyone is welcome to join anywhere along the route and enjoy the ride and the riders.

7/31: I am sooooo ready for this!

Mike, Im in for the ride up with your group. Let me know time a location to join up in Sacramento. I live in Rancho Cucamonga, near Ontario CA. Will ride up the day before your departure date and time.

Look forward to the ride.

TJ, you have mail!

For all the others who may be interested, on day 3 we will be along the Columbia somewhere. Either closer to Vancouver, or maybe up around The Dalles. The Day-3 plan is to ride the Eastern side of St. Helens then over to Rainier, then on to Skagit for Thursday night.

Anyone is invited to join up whenever and wherever they can.

Its about the ride and comraderie.

Day 2, it's a little spendy, but you could consider staying at the Skamania Lodge in Stephenson. If that is a little rich, you might find more reasonable lodging in Hood River. Great ride up to St. Helens and Rainier from there.

Mt Olympus would be a peak too far. You could squeeze in Mt Baker though if you are up to a 500+ mile day.

Thanks, Velvet Fog. We are planning "on the fly", so much will depend on how we feel at the end of the day. I haven't kept up with the editing (all 3 boards), but my emails to those who are riding or thinking of joining us along the way keep everyone closer to the idea.

I'll check Skamania on the net. Again, we are not booking ahead, but letting wanderlust lead us on our adventure.

Uhmmmmmm, I think @ $160-180 per night, we'll pass. But I'll offer it to the others.

MM2 -

I remain interested in doing this ride with you and the others but my schedule is not yet clear for the trip dates. I am working on it and you know that if I can make it I will. Neither rain nor hail nor ice, etc. Because planning will be done "on the fly" do you need confirmation prior to departure?

Nope. Once we decide on breakfast Tues. morning and post it (probably the Fri. before departure), the rest has no rigid schedule and no prior reservations, that way anyone who can, may join our group of happy wanderers at any point along the way.

Thanks, Mike. I hope that I can make the trip and that it is not hailing that day between L.A. and Stockton!

Heading for the PNW,...I'm bringing rain gear, anyway. It's all part of the adventure! :D Of course, hail on the helmet...??? That's another thing entirely.

Are you going to stay in Stockton again, or do you plan to come on up to Elk Grove? (Another 30 minutes or so) There's a Holiday Inn Express about 3 miles from my place (I already have 2 others staying over). I'm thinkin' we might ride up to a nice little breakfast place in Auburn...(Where Bluestreek will join us) so the Continental Bfst at "Express" might be nice to tide a rider over for an hour or so.

If you want more details, I can send the info to you....just remember, it is still evolving, especially Day 3.

Well, having read the preliminary, sketchy, rough draft, outline of this little non-structured adventure it seems like it will be a blast. Speaking of which, courtesy of the USGS:

Current status is Volcano Advisory (Alert Level 2); aviation color code ORANGE: Growth of the new lava dome inside the crater of Mount St. Helens continues, accompanied by low rates of seismicity, low emissions of steam and volcanic gases, and minor production of ash. During such eruptions, changes in the level of activity can occur over days to months. The eruption could intensify suddenly or with little warning and produce explosions that cause hazardous conditions within several miles of the crater and farther downwind. Small lahars could suddenly descend the Toutle River if triggered by heavy rain or by interaction of hot rocks with snow and ice. These lahars pose a negligible hazard below the Sediment Retention Structure (SRS) but could pose a hazard along the river channel upstream.

I like this info from the USGS site ;)

OTHER CASCADE VOLCANOES

All other volcanoes in the Cascade Range are all at normal levels of background seismicity. These include Mount Baker, Glacier Peak, Mount Rainier, and Mount Adams in Washington State; Mount Hood, Mount Jefferson, Three Sisters, Newberry, and Crater Lake, in Oregon; and Medicine Lake, Mount Shasta, and Lassen Peak in northern California.

Maybe the name should be changed to " the Volcano run "

We laugh in the face of danger !! :assasin: Buwahaha !!

as far as bike to bike communication, what generally happens on these rides?
1st basic rule: Cajole some other soul into leading the adventure. (i.e., "Highlander will be the Big Dog on this ride!")

2nd basic rule: At the first (or next) rest/gas/drink/snack stop, everyone complain about the leader, (i.e., "He's too fast in on the straights!"; or "He's waaaay to slow in the apexes."; or "He can't maintain a steady pace!") Then wait for some other intrepid adventurer to lead out and the fun begins anew! ;)

We ride, we eat and we have fun. :cownoy:
Yup! And sometimes we sleep so we can arise and do it all over again. B) Mostly, we have fun!

Maybe the name should be changed to "the Volcano Run"
Maybe, maybe not. Just in case we can't shake it up, I s'pose someone mightier than us can!

OrangevaleFJR, we ride. Nothing we are doing really needs a lot of communication. Basic signals, basic understanding, basic courtesy. We ride "The Pace" and communicate mucho gusto when we are stopped. If you want an idea, I think Bluestreek and Rick-in-Sac are planning a little soire on the 16th of July. Check the "Rides" section....you'll find out that we also "eat"...hmmm, Markleeville, hmmmm.

Mike you know you are comming with us on the 16th so don't fight it. :haha:

If you want I will come down to EG and help you with your bike. I so good a puttin things back together that I have a coffee can full of assorted nuts and bolts and little thingy's :cownoy:

The bike's back together. New Wilber's (BTW, for ABS bikes, I just dropped the cross bracket and ran the remote preload then re-attached the bracket); New Pilot Roads, greased splines and final drive;

and no steenking extra bits or pieces! Thenk yew very much! :bleh: Hopefully the GPS will get here and I'll be wiring that....or maybe Sunday after church. ;)

OrangevaleFJR, are you going to join them on the Markleeville lunch run? Bluestreek is the "Big Dog", so he'll be leading! :haha:
