I got some toys in the mail. This will be a "farkle" weekend for driving lights and the GPS (maybe I'll not take wrong turns like last year....sheesh).

9 days and we'll be on the road, semi-Northward!

Yeah, TWN, its about to happen. That giant "whooshing" sound will be all the FJRs headed North. Sorry you have to wait until Yosemite. I'm really gona miss seing TWN @ WFO-4.

Bluestreek, Garmin 2610. Old school, flashcards. It seems to be the best for me. I just can't get the maps program to load into my computer. I guess I'll have to call support services on Monday. In the meantime.....the Stemstand and Touratech are mounted, I'll pop-off the plastic tomorrow and wire the GPS, install the PIAAs and the burgurglar alarm I harvested from the '04. I need to change the grounding strip to a better design, anyway.

Trying to teach the old dog new tricks ??????? :D

Trying to teach the old dog new tricks?????
Well, the old dog was lead dog last year and made 3 (count'em--THREE) wrong turns. One leaving Boise, the other 2 on our little day ride to Cours d'Alene. Some day I'll graduate to "Big Dog" like you, Highlander. ;)

@Bluestreek, "Que?"

I've mounted all the new "toys" on the bike, now.

I still can't program the Garmin. The computer accepts the "start-up" disk, but can't "find" disk # 1 (Mapsource, City Navigator, North America v6). If I insert disk #2, it sees that one, but I need # 1 first. Seems like its not a problem with the computer as it sees disk number 2, but "can't find" disk #1. Thus, I will call Garmin tomorrow and see if they can guide me through loading the software.

I met Skyway in Jackson today. I put the GPS on the bike and will run it all week and next weekend to get used to it. I want to get used to the machine and not be distracted by it. Kinda cool to see where I was and the difference in indicated speed and GPS speed (about 2-5 mph). But since I don't have the maps in the GPS, once I got on secondary roads, it showed my position in the middle of a "blank" area. All the highways are on there, though, even the 2 lane (12, 104, Grant Line Road, which must be an alternate from 99 to Hwy 50, 88, 49, etc.).

Okay, y'all, one week to go!

ALERT ALERT ALERT ALERT

Mt. St. Helens is acting up. FJRoamer has posted the link to the US Geological Survey on FJRowners. We might have to alter our plans...she is at Level 2, rumblin' and shakin' and spittin' ash. We can come up with alternatives!

Here is the List of Players:

Madmike2

Dan from Fairfield

50GTT

Skyway(if they get their bike back)

Calronman**has cancelled--job change, no vacation. Bummer!

MCML (sans the lovely Linda?)

Bluestreek (w/o the lovely Cyndi, who must work)

OldLion/Turbodave

RogerWheelock/Faster

Plan to leave Elk Grove @ 0800 Tuesday..meet @ Katrina's in Auburn around 0900, where the foothill riders will join "The Posse".

Day 3:

FJRoamer will meet us for lunch @ Packwood

Dudewado

Snowmonkey

For those planning to meet us Thurs. morning in Mt. Hood, and any others, I will be sending my cell number to The List , so you can call Wed. night and see where we are and what the plans are for Thurs. morning. Afterall, we're FJR owners, we might be in Portland or Vancouver or ???.

I'm sorry some can't make the trip with us. I'm really gonna miss TWN! And Thug!

See, I told you I heard rumbling, but would you listen to me? Noooooooo!

Have fun guys and gals. Ride safe and under the ash plume! :p ;)

If I can get my bike ready, I plan to tag along for first two days.

Any suggestions on a good place to stay in Auburn?

MadMike2,

If you'll put me on THE LIST, I'll check in Wed./Thurs if I'm in range and maybe finish up the ride to the WFO with your group.

Feeling pretty ambitious right now, we'll see what the lower half has to say in a week or so..

THE LIST at the head of the thread has been edited. I know its not complete, I'll have to go through my notes, etc. and get a more accurate head count.

I'm off to the family reunion near Yosemite.

And the pull string is to hook to the bungee whilst you drag the cardboard jen-yoo-wine replica of TWN.
