I recently started using Photoshop and am havng a little trouble with basic stuff. I am trying to resize a photo, specificly the one I use for my Avatar, but when I shrink it, it gets blurry. How can I shrink a photo and still maintain quality?

Thanks in advance!!!

"Image, Image size" is the menu selection to use, but it may depend on the starting format. Bitmaps don't resize well, but other formats like TIFF or JPEG should be OK for that.

Spyderbret, don't know what version of PS you have, but maybe the link below will help. I'm not a Photoshop expert, but I'd assume some depixellation has to occur to resize to smaller image size. Pixels lost on edges will lead to blur. You'll note in the tutorial linked below that PS CS3/4 has a "sharpener" function that the author applied in a 2-step process to bring a large photo down to the desired size. Hope this helps a little.....

PS - I found the link by Googling photoshop+image resizing...give it a try as there's tons of photoshop info.

image resizing

Whenever you decrease the image size it gets 'blurry' or de-pixelated.

When I re-sized mine it looked like crap, but when viewed at the size of our avatars it looks fine.

If you tried to make a 4x6 out of it, it would look like a mosaic.
