Sorry about the late ride report but here it is. Kids are keeping me way too busy.
First of all, let’s do this again next year about the same time in August. Keep your eye out around June, I’ll start posting up to get the ball rolling.
With all the thanks sent my way it is truly humbling and the best I can come up with is you are very welcome!! I truly feel what made this such a great event was all of you!! Hearing everyone talking, laughing and sharing stories about their rides was fantastic. It is all of you who motivated me to give this a try and thank YOU for making this such a great RTE. Another thing that helped was the perfect weather, bright sun, warm temp and low humidity…….oh and the roads too.
Have to mention Mike and Laura (wnyfjr), they posted a few weeks back saying, we’re going for a ride want to go. A couple weeks before when I was on a family vacation I said to my wife that I wanted to do a RTE in PA someplace and she said go for it and I just hadn’t done it after we got back. I saw their post about the ride after it happened but that is what got me in gear. So thank you Mike and Laura for the little jump start I needed.
The ride down for me was interesting for the first couple hours. South of Mt. Morris once I started heading down in to the valleys fog was pretty heavy in spots. Came across one spot where I was looking down in to the valley and the fog had settled in, a really cool view seeing the hills poking up from the clouds. Thought about stopping to take a picture but my schedule was tight; plus as quickly as I thought how nice it look it dawned on me that I’m riding down in to that soup.
After about an hour plus riding in and out of the soup I getting close to the park and things had pretty much lifted. I had two routes planned to ride through the park, but when I came up to exit 23 on 86 for the shorter route I said screw it and headed to exit 18. That’s the reason why I wasn’t there at 11:30. The routes I took through the park were 280, 346, 321, short distance on 6 to catch 66, 948, triple 6 and 62 to the Tippy. If you want to maximizes your ride time in the park that’s the way to go. Only ran in to 3 or 4 miles of fresh stone that was put down. 948 and triple 6 were a lot of fun!!
When I got there a few people had already arrived and great seeing everyone again and for me seeing lots of new faces as well!! After getting all my gear off and camera out the crew from Buffalo and Canada arrived.
After chatting it up a bit in the parking lot, as we usually do, we headed in for some well deserved food.
The only time it was quiet is when the food came out.
Food wise, I thought the portions were a tad on the small side. Other than that I thought it was good.
After our bellies were filled up it was time to head back out on the road but first a group shot.
Due to riding home to the west Phil had to Jet (was that smooth or what??) so he wouldn’t get blasted in the face by the setting sun (Totally understandable), he's not in the group picture so here he is on his departing shot.
Once we mounted back up a number of us headed off to ride triple 6. Sorry, I don’t have the skills KJ has to take pictures while riding, plus there were a couple bends in the road. At the end of triple 6 KJ, Debbie and I headed north for a beer run, we had to find some panty dropper.
While we were there KJ, Debbie and I chatted it up about future events. While we were quenching our thirst Mike the Wine Guy shows up with his crew. So a couple snacks were ordered and more great conversations.
I have a picture that includes Debbie at this fine establishment, but it looked like she was picking her nose so in a rare moment of kindness I'm leaving it out.
Sadly we decided we really had to go and try and get as much road behind us while the sun was still up, and with KJ leading the way we did. Love the technology on his ride. So all of us headed up 219 at a brisk pace. KJ, Debbie and I waved our see you laters to Mike and his crew when we started heading east on 39. From there the brisk pace was maintained. (Man that was fun!!) We worked our way to 390, started heading north and when the exit for RT 20 came along KJ and Debbie took a right to head east and sadly I waved a see you later to them as well. Then it hit me, man this great day is almost over. As I was watching out for deer I was thinking about how great this day has been and can’t wait until the next one. Sad to see the day end but happy when I got to see my family when I got home. When I climbed in bed I was tiiiiiiiiiiiiired, but had a big smile on my face and fell asleep with the sound of my FJR motor running in my head.
